  1. Yes I like urban caching too, the fun is the stealth part. If they were all tupperware boxes off a footpath at the base of a tree, covered by rocks, we would soon get bored. I like the variety. And...57 other people had found this cache without anyone in the cafe noticing. Maybe the cache finder needed more practice before trying such a high muggle area!
  2. Thanks for speaking to the police and getting sorted. Much appreciated! Im off to enable my caches now!
  3. Love it! that really made me giggle!! But I hope that when they find them, they dont squirt water at them all, cos the logs will be all wet!
  4. Excellent! We can carry on with our plans for the ones we want do there then!
  5. Ive a good mind to go and stick a magnetic micro in the middle of town, and do a bit of suspicious loitering. Let them find that to blow it up!
  6. Well now i am ashamed to live in Wetherby with its heavy handed police force. I just feel so sorry for the cacher made to feel like a criminal for just finding a cache and replacing where he found it. To say I am gobsmacked at the Police's reaction is an understatement. I guess theyre not aware that the metropolitan Police allow geocaches in Whitehall, a somewhat higher profile place than sleepy little old Wetherby link So at the moment it looks like you can hide a cache in London but not in Wetherby. Yes I know theres always the terrorist threat at the back of peoples minds, but we cant stop doing things just because there may be a remote threat. If we stopped doing things that may be a target (and i still dont see Wetherby being one) then no-one would get on an airplace or a bus or visit london ever again. We have to get on with things. I have 3 caches in Wetherby and have been asked via the owner of the Wetherby Shambles cache to remove these. I have disabled for now, in the hope we can get things resolved. One of my caches "Trev's cache" was already disabled, having been found for the second time by local kids and trashed! I was in the process of making a new container that doesnt look anything like a cache, so even if they saw people behaving suspiciously and went to look, they wouldnt recognise it for what it is. I guess I'll have to wait now to see whether Wetherby is a no-go area for caching. my "mind the twigs" cache has been logged 106 times since I placed it. Its hidden down by the river in a very pretty spot. wetherby traders are unhappy at the moment about plans for a new supermarket on the edge of town, which they think will stop people coming into town. I wonder how many of the 106 cachers wouldnt have come into Wetherby without my cache and other caches being here? Well I guess I need to have a word with the Police, but I think I'll see what wetherby Council's take on this is first. I wonder whether Harrogate Police have the same view as Wetherby police?. Will they arrest us if we find the elusive caches in the middle of harrogate, that we still havent managed to find yet. Or all the others in every town centre in the Country. Its a sad day for caching if we run the threat of being arrested for playing the game. Oh and what happens to the kids at Boston Spa School if they find the caches placed by their teachers (BBS1 "This is one of a range of caches planted by Boston Spa School (PE Staff CL/SS). The caches are used by the school during curriculum time and in the extended curriculum.") I think also that its a bit of a worry that the Police dont know whats going on in the area. I understand that Geocaching is the fastest growing hobby. Not very far away in York, the local press did an article on the geocaches on the City Walls Lets hope York Police read the newspaper!
  7. I live in Wetherby and went down when i heard what was going on as although we hadnt yet found that particular cache, we did know it was there. Unfortunatly they had already blown it up when I got there! The policeman at the barrier made me laugh though...he told me very smugly "weve got the person who put it there" "on no you havent" says I , "only the person who found it today, signed a log that was in it, and put it back, it was orig hidden last oct, and has been found and put back loads of times" that took the smirk of his face! Not sure why the police would think that Wetherby is such a high profile place to plant a bomb. Unless....maybe... they thought that the people who are against the new supermarket plans are really so angry about it that they decided to protest with a bomb! Anyway best bit of excitement we've had in Wetherby since ..err...actually.. cant think of anything exciting happening in Wetherby.
  8. I have a Sat Map Active 10. I like the OS maps on it (like to see where all the footpaths are!)and I also do paperless as i can load on the gpx files which give me all the details, logs etc Have also used it as a satnav when going on holiday (husband driving, me with the satmap but doing the voice...."Turn left in 100 yards!!!") I also have an iphone which is useful to look to see exactly where the caches are when i get the email notifications, but dont use for geocaching because of the poor battery. Also weve been to many places where the phone signal has been lost, so would have been pretty usless Used to have a garmin etrex but sometimes difficult, (especially with multi's) as it only showed the distance "as the crow flies" not always easy to work out which way to go to get to where we needed to be. Having said that, we managed well as im sure lots of other people also do and its very cheap. Good to start with, to see whether it was going to be a "fad" hobby, but we're still going strong!
  9. Did he just put that cache back in a different place?......or was i seeing it wrong? hmmmm.....
  10. Hmmmmmm... OK Welcome to the Forum anyway! MrsB Thank you for the welcome! Yep its confusing, but we're a very confused team!
  11. My daughter plays online games and came up with our team name. She says in the online games world, uber = good and noobs (or newbies)= new =not very good! Therefore we are the team that is good at not being very good!!...yep that sounds like us!
