  1. My favorite cache of all time, so far is definitely GC16BT8, Test Tube Caper. It is the first cache I found that was not "just" a container under a pile of sticks in the woods. Don't get me wrong, I love "just" a container under a pile of sticks in the woods, but this one made you think. There were no puzzles but each stage gave you one of those "OOOOHHH thats what that means" feelings. Then you really had to put two and two together to reach the final. Mike
  2. I found my first cache on 03/15/08, and I found my 100th cache on 06/04/08, so less than three months. I have not found any since then. I wanted to hide one before I passed the 100 mark but I didn't want to just hide a cache under some geopile of sticks in the woods so I ended up creating an involved cache that took over a month to get ready. At first I was going through some-kind of Geocaching withdrawal and really wanted to get out there and find a cache but it took so long to hide the first cache that I thought up some good ideas for other caches and started right in on my second cache, which I hope to place this weekend. So I don't think that my caches found count will go up until I get time in the next month or so to camp at a local forest for the weekend where there are 30 something caches hidden.
  3. Hi, Here is a copy of a post I placed in another forum with a like topic. Hi there Having been in the tree cutting industry, maintaining power lines in South Carolina (a state with a massive amount of the poison plants), I have had poison ivy, oak and sumac dozens of times over major portions of my body. In desperation I have tried every "cure" known to mankind, and a few of the ones only known to martian-kind as well. After that I smartened up and spent a large amount of time researching the facts about the plants. I now consider myself to be somewhat of an expert on the subject. I believe I could write a book about it but for now here are the important points. 1) In all of these poison plants the active ingredient is Urushiol oil. Urushiol oil is a clear liquid that once exposed to air turns black and will look like pine sap on your skin. 2) The time to noticeable reaction after exposure depends on the thickness and density of the skin exposed, it can be as quick as 15 minutes in delicate areas, like the inner thigh, or as long as 48 hours in thicker skinned areas, like the forearm or hand. The only way to be affected is through exposure to the Urushiol oil, the seepage from blisters and such CAN NOT spread the reaction. It can seem as if it is spreading from blister seepage due to the fact that it will take longer for the thicker skinned areas to react. 3) Once exposed if you can wash vigorously with cold water (soap will help), or wipe the exposed area with rubbing alcohol within 15 minutes you can remove the Urushiol oil before it absorbs. Urushiol oil can stay on your clothing, car seat, GPSr ETC. and cause re-exposure for up to 7 years. It is important to clean anything that may have contacted the Urushiol oil. This form of re-exposure also lends to the wives-tale of spreading infection with blister seepage. 4) Once the allergic reaction has begun the most immediate relief you can find is to run warm water on the exposed area, SLOWLY turn the hot water up until it will cause you physical pain to turn it up any more, wait until you get used to that temp. and then turn the hot water up until it will cause you physical pain to turn it up any more, repeat this step until you reach a point where for 30-45 seconds you feel an insane, outrageous, irresistible itching in the exposed area, this feeling will pass quickly and there is no mistaking it when it happens. This is the heat causing a massive release of histamine, this is a biological reaction and will happen. Once the histamines are released it is physically impossible for the exposed area to itch. I HAVE TRIED ALL THE STUPID CURES LIKE OATMEAL AND ALL THE DANGEROUS CURES LIKE BLEACH. THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED. Sorry don't mean to yell, I just can't stress this enough. I have never tried the pretreatments to prevent exposure (due to the unreasonable expense of using the product 8 hours a day 5 days a week), so I can not offer an opinion on them. However I have tried a product called Oral Ivy, it is Urushiol oil suspended in an alcohol solution (like using Rattle Snake venom to make Rattle Snake anti-venom) after exposure to Urushiol oil taking Oral Ivy cut the time I was suffering by at least 60%. The makers of the product also say it can help you develop an immunity to the Urushiol oil. I hope this helps and feel free to contact me with any questions. Mike
  4. I just did that for the first time myself. I think all I did was click on edit log, then click upload pic in the top right side of screen, and after you have finished updating the log, on the bottom left side of the screen should be an upload another pic link.
  5. Forgot to mention that it will take your body 8 hours to replace the Histamines released by the hot water, so you will have to repeat the process every 8 hours to avoid discomfort.

  7. I have a couple of complex cachs I plan to leave a $100 bill in for FTF. I heard of vouchers for round trip airfare.
  8. I have one of those metal clipboards that opens like a book for paper storage etc. I keep it full of geocach info and paperwork, that combined with the GPSr seems to make me look like a surveyor or something like that and I have never been questioned while doing that. One time I was 50 feet off a remote trail with a friend searching for stage 1 of a complex 5 stage multi. After 45 min. of looking I called out to my friend saying "I hate this guy, where the heck did he put it", then I heard from the direction of the trail "What are you guys looking for"?. A Muggle dog walker had come upon us and understandably was curious. That time as every other time if the Muggle seams like a responsible, respectful person I explaine about Geocaching, half the time they seem very interested and say they might look into it, the other half of the time the seem to think it all sounds a bit weird and they go on there way. Generally if they seem anything other than interested in Geocaching I will tell them that all you find are log books to sign and I don't mention the cach. I try to not tell them I'm looking for lost jewelry or anything so that they don't decide to look for the item for themselves, and stumble upon the cach. Plus I would feel like a jerk explaining to them that I lied if they turned out to be nice people who stopped to help you search. I also will tap my thumbs on my GPSr as if I am texting someone while I'm looking past the GPSr for a film can hidden in a shrub or something. I think however, from now on I will start telling people that "The wife said we have to bring the kids home for a proper burial" LOL,LOL.. Thanks for reading what I have to say, Mike
