  1. I have trouble getting good cell reception in my apartment! I go outside- it's fine.
  2. This doesn't have to do with caching, but I was on a local river in my friend's boat. In an industrial area, I joked with my friend wouldn't it be weird if we found a dead body. A few days later about 500 feet from where I said it, a dead body was found laying under a tree at the bank. He had been there several months and it looked like suicide or natural causes.

    Geocaching

Saw an article in the local paper where the author went with the local caching phenom (he was at 3000 finds a month ago). I was loking for a hobby that got me outside on the weekends and saw the article. go out every weekend!
  4. There was one cache I had about 4-5 DNFs on. It said it was hidden under a bush in a neighborhood park. There were about 5 juniper bushes in a clump and where my GPSr zeroed out was the freshly cut stump of one. I had looked all over the place for that one and several other people had DNFs. There were no finds for several months and original cache owner had left the area and had another person take it over. I posted a needs to be archived notice. The next day someone found it! I went back the next week and finally found it. I had spotted it and decided that it would be easier to reach from the other side of the bush. It blended in so well that when I went to the other side, I couldn't find it!. Had to go back to my original place to see it.
  5. Any old fogeys like me remember the Cheech and Chong bit? Dave? No. There's one where a Jewish guy (had a Yiddish accent) is telling the doctor his kid is putting everything up his nose.
  6. Any old fogeys like me remember the Cheech and Chong bit?
  7. EEEWWWWW!!!!!! It was ~3/4 inch wide and about 5 inches long. A plastic dog poop with a film canister glued underneath it. I had visited the place several times and didn't notice it even though the cache's title and hint led you to belive that it might be the cache.
  8. I have an etrex Venture and today I had a good lock on all 12 of the satellites visible (which had never happened before!). I had an EPE of 9 feet under a tree! It zeroed out with this 9 ft EPE and WAAS enabled. I didn't find the cache though! It's there. Someone found it a few days ago and there is a spoiler picture of it on the web page. I'll have to go back and get it.
  9. Today I found a cache that looks like it came from a Great Dane!
  10. There's one in the SF Bay area (don't know which one) that looks like a cow pattie. Someone took a real one and made a mold of it. I heard it moos if you pick it up!
  11. Cache Creatures and all you other tall geocachers, be considerate of us short (I'm 5'4") geocachers when placing caches. I live in the same area as you. I've had to skip some caches because I could not reach them. I found one step of a multi today that was JUST out of my reach. I'm short enough that I have to shorten every pair of pants I buy, even the 30" inseams.
  12. I was caching in a park in my hometown over the holidays . There is a "deer lady" that insists on feeding them and has been threatened with fines and jail time if she doesn't stop. She keeps claiming the deer are starving to death. There are acytually more deer and accidents than ever before. The deer in this park have become so tame that while I was caching there one walked past me about 8-10 feet away and I could smell it. It didn't run away even though I yelled at it to scare it.
  13. Got one multi that had unique "containers" for the first 4 steps with a normal final cache. The "containers" all fit the theme. Found another that had you go around to get info for the first step, which had the coordinates for the main cache written on the plastic part of a shotgun shell hanging in a tree. The main cache was in a birdfeeder set up like in the post above.
  14. SnoWake's signature thermometer/compass/keychain. I have it clipped to my mini MagLight.
  15. Just read in today's paper that a mountain lion was sighted in the hills east of Dublin. The article said that one was seen on 1/12 near the end of Dublin Blvd. and a half eaten deer was found on 1/19. This may be the one seen near the county jail in October. Remember to be careful. Don't cache alone, make noise while caching. don't run if one is seen, and in general be aware. The two closest caches to this area are: Change is Good (GC31D7) and Bog , Log, and Pollywog (GC5797) Since I usually cache alone, if a group is interested in finding these, please contact me, I'd like to go with you.
  16. This cache Quit Iron Horsing Around (CGGBER) is the closest to my house (~0.25 miles) and is within 15 feet of a suburban paved hiking/biking trail. I started geocaching at the end of August and must have visited it at least 20 times at all hours. I searched every square inch within about 20 feet of it. I finally had a good idea an how it was hidden and met another geocacher Saturday that had found it. I asked if my idea was on the right track and they agreed. I found it Saturay night. Finally!
  17. The Nucleus (GCG2D6) in Western NY is a similar cache. The "electrons" are TBs that stay in WNY but move to various caches. I happened to come across one of the electrons while on vacation and they have the coordinates of the "nucleus" on them. I may get it next time I am in the area when it is warm.
  18. One of the radio stations in the SF Bay area calls them "giant antlered rats" when one is hit on the roads I was caching in my hometown in Western NY at Christmas. There is a "deer lady" that feeds them and even names them. She has served time ( a few days) for not stopping. I was caching in that park and when I left the cache a fawn born last spring started walking towards me. I yelled "SHOO" and "NO FOOD" at it and it still approached. It passed about 8 feet away from me on the trail! I was close enough to smell it!
  19. Fizzy, You don't do your own caches. Most of yours are really hard to find. I'm going to find Quit Iron Horsing Around , Quarterback and Hexpedition 3 someday!
  20. I flew on United from SF to Buffalo. On the 757 to O' Hare I asked and they said no. On the 50 seater to Buffalo, they announced that it wasn't allowed before we took off. Did get ORD Layover, a virtual in the United terminal though.
  21. Don't give Fizzymagic any ideas. His puzzle (and most of his non-puzzle) caches are hard enough already!
  22. The closest cache to my place (0.25 miles) is my bad luck cache. I have over 75 finds, but have been to this one cache at least 20 times at various times of the day (including night). Other people have found it after an attempt or two, but for the life of me, I can't find it!
  23. BADGES? We don't need no stinkin' BADGES. Seriously,though- great idea!
  24. Wacka sounds like part of my last name and was also a nickname I had in school.
