As from the 1st of April, EGNOS is out of 'testing' and into operation . . . . More details - HERE Will this make searching easier ? Or will it just run batteries down quicker ??

Try these - Britains Hardest

When say 'West Country' I was actually meaning 'Gloucestershire' I can't imagine Devon and Cornwall cachers would want to travel that far !! I think I'll look around for the 'SouthWest' (meaning Devon and Cornwall) meet-ups and see if I can convince the Wife !! I could just take the plunge and organise one Anyone willing to travel for a day out in the Forest of Dean ??
-
Is it safe to assume the the geographical distribution of GeoCachers roughly matches the distribution of caches around the UK ? I was thinking after reading posts about the Sussex cachers meet up, I was thinking it would be nice here in the west country, but, if there aren't many cachers it won't be a very big bash !!
-
I'd be interested in this too. I've just introduced a scout organiser to GeoCaching so they might benefit as well !
-
I was just thinking of popular songs with a cachy theme : How about 'Put the message in box' (I think that's the title) by World party Or possibly 'We're on the road to nowhere' by the Talking Heads ? Any ideas ?

I don't like the sound of that ! -
I apologise for sounding a little sceptical, but, what do you make your dog carry ??

Pyoung1s - The Ultimate Night Cacher?!
MoonHerb replied to Seasider's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
He does seem to get around a bit. I noticed 'Interception 1' was in a cache close to my route back from work Cathedral in the forest, so I left early to go and grab it. Imagine my thoughts when I got there and noticed he'd been there two hours previously and nabbed it !! It went straight up north to Lock up your daughters - way out of reach for me !! I'm not complaining (too much) though, hats off to the chap, dedication and all that ! -
I'm not too sure, the name 'MoonHerb' comes from a combination of mine and my Wifes businesses - BrynaHerb (www.brynaherb.co.uk) and MoonSpace (www.moonspace.co.uk) . I was thinking of something in the craft line, home made and pretty unique but numbered, i.e. MoonHerb Sig #1,2,3 etc.

I notice that various cachers have 'signature' items. My question is this, are these in any way logged or registered ? If I for instance wanted to hide signature items, would I just hide them and call them signature or is there a process I need to go through ?

Make sure you've got the correct position format set on your GPSr. There are a number of settings where it is possible to enter the co-ords from GC and totally screw things up ! I know, I've done it ! Just a thought

Thanks Flyfishermanbob - WAAS stays enabled then !
-
So, are you basically saying that I should switch off the WAAS mode on my Garmin Geko 201 ??
-
Thanks for that, I'll get on and prepare my caches. Look out for 1,2 or 3 regular caches and at least one multi-cache, all in Gloucestershire.
-
Just a quick (silly) question. To place a UK cache, it still gets reported to the .com site, i.e. the american site ? Are the UK caches filtered out to UK checkers to OK them ??
-
Seasons greetings everybody. New years resolution : Get around to placing those caches around the Forest of Dean !!
-
I agree, they aren't very good at all. Luckily they've left a link to the 'old' style map !
-
So the general idea is 'yes' go for it ! That's good, I will check the local caches and their TB's and see if I can help any !
-
Do you revisit caches (Generally local ones) for the sole purpose of retrieving travel bugs ?? I went back to 'A place to relax' which is a local cache for us to drop off a travel bug but I was wondering about the ethics of specific trips to retrieve TB's ??
-
Interesting. I was thinking of placing a cache in a cave, down a tunnel. That would mean that the co-ordinates would point you to a location above the cache on a path, basically no where near finding the cache. I reckon I'd need to put a few spoilers in otherwise people would really be tearing their hair out !! ______________________________________________ Please visit our website - http://www.moonspace.co.uk/moonherb

I knew the best way to find out about this was to post details and someone else would do the searching for me !! ______________________________________________ Please visit our website - http://www.moonspace.co.uk/moonherb

Have a look at this news article : Galileo Article It's either good news (Better accuracy, etc.) or bad news (Two systems, which one's more popular) Mind you we've got to wait another 4-5 years !! ______________________________________________ Please visit our website - http://www.moonspace.co.uk/moonherb

A lecture on "The Science of GPS" in Cheltenham
MoonHerb replied to The Wombles's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
That's quite spooky. I'm attending a lecture finishing at 7.15pm in TC114 this Thursday ! (it's in JAVA though, not as interesting as GPS.) I may well be tempted to miss the workshop to attend this ! ______________________________________________ Please visit our website - http://www.moonspace.co.uk/moonherb
