If someone can get it to Calgary, I'll take it.

Do you think you could get it to Calgary by Friday for park2 to move on to Montreal??

Sorry, but the earliest I can get out to Banff is Saturday. icon_frown.gif

Right now it's sitting in http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=6137.

It has slowly but steadily moved along... but I sure would appreciate a big boost! It's in a race with another TB coming the other way. Mine needs to find it's way to Ontario. Anyone be able to help? I'd sure appreciate it.

I'm in Banff fairly often so I could remove the bug from Tunnel Mountain and release it in Calgary which is only a bit further east. Obviously that isn't a very big jump but there might be a better chance somebody heading east from Calgary might pick it up. Of course, a tourist in Banff might also pick it up from Tunnel Mountain and move it along themselves... Its a toss-up.

    Let me know...

I think I've just about elucidated what happens from these posts, but this part still eludes me. icon_smile.gif

For the first quilt, we received a batch of squares from DxChallenged. Several of the local area cachers met at a Tim Horton's to sign them. They were then sent back to DxChallenged.

That was quite some time ago when there weren't nearly as many cachers as there are now. We've got a couple of event caches coming up soon so perhaps you could bring the squares with you for people to sign then.

By the way DxChallenged, I saw the pictures you posted of the first quilt and I could even find my own square! You did a fantastic job!

  6. I had both units but have recently sold the GPSMAP 76. I guess you can tell which one I liked better. icon_smile.gif

    - It is my perception that the GPS V has the better reception of the two - but not by a heck of a lot.

    - I like the backlight on the V more but the 76 has the larger screen...

    - I find that the 76 and V fit equally well in a coat pocket. The V's form factor makes it nicer to use in the car and the turn-by-turn routing is also a huge plus.

    - The firmware for the GPSMAP 76 has a lot more polish. The V's firmware is quite a bit quirkier and has more obvious bugs.

All things said, I'm really quite happy with the V and wouldn't trade it for anything currently on the market.

  8. Lots of good "quirks" being posted! The following is really good news though...

Looks like I'm going to wait 'till 2.03 comes along before I fire off an email to Garmin. Hopefully the 2.03 release isn't going to be a case of "2 steps forward, 1 step back!" (ala GPSMAP 76 comment-field bug...)

In southern Alberta, outforthehunt has placed more than 30 quality caches. His caches certainly play a part in the explosion of the sport in this area!

    Thanks outforthehunt! icon_cool.gif

  11. After using my GPS V for a few months (firmware 2.02) there are a few quirks and idiosyncrasies that bug me a little bit. icon_smile.gif Still though, I don't think I'd trade it for anything else on the market today!

Anyway, I've made a list of a few of the things I think should be fixed/added/changed in the firmware and I was planning on sending a polite note to Garmin. It probably won't help but it couldn't hurt either.

I've included my listing of things that came into my head below... Does anybody have anything they'd like to add? Perhaps we can merge it all together and present it to Garmin in one big pile! icon_biggrin.gif

    ---

When the elevation setting in SETUP->UNITS is set to "Meters", the "Trip Information Page" will show elevation in KILOmeters if you're above 1000m! Seeing "1km" or "2km" for elevation is mostly useless. It needs to actually show the value in meters.

When selecting a waypoint icon on my GPSMAP 76, pressing the rocker left/right would scroll the waypoint icon listing a "page" at a time - backwards or forwards. The GPS V doesn't work the same way - you can only scroll through the list one waypoint icon at a time by pressing the rocker up/down. Rocker LEFT will simply beep. Rocker RIGHT will exit the waypoint selection process. It should work the same way as the GPSMAP 76. Other lengthy selection screens on the GPS V should behave the same way.

Having HDOP displayed on the "Satellite Status Page" would be a nice bonus. How about displaying EPE or "accuracy" to 1 decimal place also?

Deleting waypoints is really keystroke intensive! There are fewer keystrokes to delete waypoints on the GPSMAP 76.

More battery type settings! Alkaline and lithium are a good start but please add NiMH. NiMH batteries are really the only affordable way to keep a GPSs supplied with power.

Waypoints and tracklog have an altitude value tied to them. How about adding an "altitude profile" feature like on some of the eTrex units?

There should be a "Waypoints" option in the Menu-Menu screen like on the III+ and GPSMAP 76.
