  1. I don’t think it is ok to dig on someone’s property, but I have read logs of folks who said they dug out a BM after “locating it” after finding it with a metal detector or prodding stick. But as they don’t provide any context of getting permission, I was just curious. The two BMs aren’t located on private property ( I am fairly certain...lol), but I am sure the land belongs to the town or a particular company/utility. The one BM that I am fairly certain has pictures from 2016 showing its location, but must not be in use much as there is a layer of mud and green growth over where it is shown to be in the picture. It’s next to railroad tracks. The other is at a public boat ramp. I located a reference marker for it, but didn’t have a tape measure with me, but I measured the area off (using iphone...yes not accurate) and it puts it over an area covered with mud and rocks. I guess I can mark them as unfound and leave a picture of the area? Thank you for your response. ODS
  2. Hello All, I tried to search for this topic in the threads, but the search function (at least for me) wasn't working. Is it okay to dig around an area to uncover a benchmark? I have went in search of 2 BMs and I am fairly certain of the location of one of them, the second one I am not that sure. Would I be breaking any laws? Thank you for your help. Take care, ODS
  3. There are some pinned Threads in the TB forum like “Snoogans TB longevity” and “how to keep the tracking number safe” that give great advice. There are also other helpful threads that can be found via the search function. Good luck!
  4. I believe the hearts that are filled in are the specific caches you gave a favorite point.
  5. Hi all, heard back from NGS personnel: “There was a bug in the form. I make a change that should resolve the issue. “ I will try again and see what happens. -ODS
  6. Hi all, I tried to post a recovery form using google chrome and the NGS recovery form (lite version). I followed the naming convention on the website for my photos. When I go to submit my form, I am getting an error that says: www.ngs.noaa.gov says: Alias contains bad character(s). Could someone please let me know what that means? Thank you in advance for your help Take care, ODS
  7. You could try contacting The National Geodetic Survey at 301-713-3242 or sending the picture to: ngs.infocenter@noaa.gov. Can you see what is written under the scratch? Is it a number 3. Sorry for late response, I’m just getting into benchmarking. Good luck!
  8. HaHa. That was a pretty funny write-up. Looks like 2 tags left to go. Hopefully some of the missing tags get claimed and/or found. Read a log where another hider found a tag. They at least returned it.
  9. You can also send a message and an email to the CO and ask about adopting the cache. I have had some success getting a response from COs that no longer cache, but they still get messages (if app is still installed) or emails if they have a main account linked to their geocache account. I was able to adopt one of the oldest caches listings in NC from an inactive CO after sending an email. Worst case scenario if you don’t hear back from them just follow barefootjeff’s suggestion and you place a cache there after the older one is archived (if cache placement meets current guidelines). Best case scenario you hear back and you (hopefully) get to adopt the cache. Either way a win-win for you.
  10. I would have never guessed it would be under the miscellaneous commercial and private firm Category. Thank you Bill93 for letting me know where it is.
  11. I have only seen the GEOCAC listed on the NGS datasheets. But the current recovery form doesn’t show any Heading like that in the drop down menus. sounds good. Thank you for the response.
  12. Hi. I found my first benchmark today and wanted to submit a recovery form, but the form (new?) doesn’t give me an option to post a note as GEOCAC. Could someone please let me know what is currently used for the “Your Agency Type and Recovery Agency” selections? Thank you for your help. take care, outdoorsoccer
  13. Have you completed the multi-cache before? Possibly you will need to head to the first waypoint to find the coordinates to the second waypoint, enter the new coordinates into your GPSr, repeat steps until you reach the final?
  14. Sweet. Congrats! Always nice to hear good news about a long lost TB resurfacing.
  15. Well you still had double the amount in my state of NC (4 and I hid 2 of them...LOL). It looks like the game is slowly coming to an end. I read over some of the missing tags and it looks like 2 of them were found but not claimed. One of them was even found by a tag hider too (didn’t think you could do that). I read one finder drove 5hrs to find one. That’s dedication right there. Not sure I would make that long of a drive. Next game I might still be a hider as it doesn’t look like many folks around here are playing, but maybe the word is out now and next game night be different. Who knows. Still pretty fun game (despite the circumstances).
  16. Cool. Now to see if MN gets claimed
  17. Sweet. That’s pretty lucky. TheBruce0 had to drive 2hrs. Lol.
  18. Yeah. I saw the one in Minnesota said folks couldn’t find look for it due to flooding. looks like the Maryland hider left it in his geocache. Some cachers visited the cache after he placed the tag, but no mention of snagging the tag. Maybe it’s attached to the metal of the LPC where his cache (GC53MJ5) is. Or possibly they didn’t know what they picked up? Hence the name of the tag. I think????
  19. Ok Minnesota could understand, but Maryland... figure someone would go find it. I’m going to go read description of hide. Thanks!
  20. Ahh. Sorry I meant not in the continental US. I thought I saw some hidden in Guam? Or somewhere like that. I’ll need to take a look at the map. Thanks for info. I’m curious now. Not that I could go looking for them if they are still unfound in Guam. Lol
  21. Nice video! Cool find. Ok...I’ll be truthful. I’m not sure if I would have found it. That’s a pretty devious and clever hide. Was the paper clip end was sticking out more than what is shown in the video!.
  22. Wow. Can you tell where they are hidden? US or overseas?
  23. Hi! Congrats on finding the tag! Is there a lot of hiders/finders in your area? Did you find a tag recently hidden or one that has been out for a bit? Anyone know if there are there any long hidden tags anymore?
  24. From the website you can just click the owned trackable link (see pic below). Or if you bookmark your TB page you can go directly to that specific TB.
  25. Hi thebruce0,, Congrats on snagging a tag! Or at least I hope that was you. I just read that “you” snagged a tag recently.
