  1. Definately in keeping with the season. I'll have to keep my eye out (not just for the coins).
  2. Oh yeah, I'm definately in on this one. Your best design yet!
  3. So this black mailer arrives...and we're looking at it kinda sideways. Finally, I get up the courage to open it, and out pops the Geo-Bandit! This coin went around the world to get to us, since it originally was sent to our old address in Okinawa, then to my mother-in-laws, and finally to us. Our first mystery coin, and a beauty to boot (no pun intended). Whoever you are, thank you. It will definately have a place of honor in our collection. Oh, we have #135.
  4. I have a coin that has literally travelled all over Asia, and I'd like to see that on the main coin page instead of having to click the link. I know it can and has been done, but a search of the forums revealed nothing of how. Any help would be appreiated. Thanx.
  5. Sorry, we're in the middle of a move right now. I think you're the only one who didn't , though someone who bought some also did not. When I get all my stuff to my new location, I'll check and see if I have any more. - Joe
  6. We dropped the Green Earth Turtle in the mail today. I hope he (and all of you) enjoyed his visit. He stayed long enough to welcome his siblings to the island. Thanx for making us a part of this adventure, and good luck to the next cacher!
  7. My 5 turtles arrived today, just in time to see off tsun's traveler. They are awesome! Of course, the spousal unit has already made off with the pin...something about it matching her Camelbak better.
  8. We took the ET out for his last day of caching in Japan today. He lent us a little luck on a chache that had eluded us, went through a DNF at a local castle, and then visited some local Shisa (lion-dog guardians). We'll pack him up and send him home on Monday. Make sure you visit the Turtle's page for more pictures! GC187A7 - Down By The River GCRAEF - Yachimun no sato Visit Tsun's Earth Turtle 2008 Geocoin for more of the story and ALOT more pictures.
  9. Yep, those are my cachlings, Alex and Abby. Trust me, they only look sweet and innocent. I believe it's much like a wishing well, asking for good luck. I think you're supposed to put the coins in the little tray near the bottom, but my daughter has her own way of doing things. Hopefully we're not extending this challenge out too far. We plan on sending the little guy home on Monday, a week after he arrived. Since we are leaving soon, we're just taking him to the places we haven't been able to get to yet. Hopefully, his brothers and sisters will arrive in time for him to greet them before he leaves. Thanx for the challenge, tsun, we're really having fun with it.
  10. Castle Caching Day! Took the ET to a couple Gusukus (castles in Japanese), and showed him a bit of Okinawan history. We took ALOT of pictures, but in the interest of bandwidth conservation, we'll share a couple here, and you can see the rest on the ET Gallery. 11. We took the Green Earth Turtle on a little evening cache run along the central west coast on Tuesday. He's completed the required four caches, but we're going to hold on to him for a bit, so we can take him to some castles. Since it's been a couple days, I took him to work with me today as well. 12. Ditto this request. Please! CF30 Ditto that ditto. Pretty please!
  13. Henderson would be very cool, and cheaper then actual Las Vegas. I should be able to help out as well. rsg, you may be getting looked up in about 1 1/2 months, my wife is really interested in your flipflops coins.
  14. Hai hai! Show us pics! These is an awesome concept!
  15. I'm gonna vote for Las Vegas for a couple reasons: 1. It satisfies all the above criteria (even if it's not on the Strip) 2. Airfare is always cheaper to Las Vegas 3. It's my next duty station I'd vote for some of the cooler places, but with my job being what it is, if it's anywhere but Vegas (or short drive from) I'm pretty much not gonna make it. Scotland would be super sweet, though.
  16. Man, I guess I'm gonna have to suffer with just the one pin. They would have made excellent FTF prizes.
  17. We have a winner! Congrats, xboxcrazy33. Thank you so much for all the participation. This was our first cointest, and we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of interest. For those of you who didn't win, I do have a limited number of coins left for trade, feel free to contact me. Again, thank you all, and congratulations to the winners! Answers to Quiz 3 (plus some): 1. The 10th was originally commanded by Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar Buckner, Jr. He was killed by enemy artillary fire, and a memorial was erected upon the hill where he died. He was the highest-ranking U.S. officer to be killed by enemy fire during World War II. 2. Buckner was succeeded in command by Marine General Roy Geiger. This is notable because he was the first Marine to lead an army. 3. Okinawan civilian losses in the campaign are estimated to be between 42,000 and 150,000 dead. 4. There is ongoing major disagreement between Okinawa's local government and Japan's national government over the role of the Japanese military in civilian mass suicides during the battle. The Okinawans maintain that locals were ordered to do so and were given handgrenades. The Japanese stance is that, though they may have been given the grenades, no such order was given. Amazingly, these mass suicides did not occur on islands where there was no Japanese soldiers present. 5. Pulitzer Prize winner Ernie Pyle was killed by Japanese machine gun fire on Ie Shima during the battle. A memorial in his honor remains on Ie Shima Island, Okinawa. 6. The Cornerstone of Peace is a memorial for the victims of the Battle of Okinawa during World War II. Much like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, it contains the known names of those who lost thier lives, civilian and military, during the battle. Currently, it lists 240,734 names. Th monument is located in Okinawa Senseki Quasi-National Park, also known as Peace Prayer Park, in southern Okinawa.
  18. This little guy woke me up for a FTF run this morning. I guess he's still jetlagged. Anyway, the sun was just coming up as we hit GZ, and I looked while he visited with some locals and enjoyed the sound of the surf. Found it after alot of digging in the wrong places, and he was very interested in the contents. His first cache, and an FTF to boot! Then we paused to look at the morning sky, and it was back home for him and off to work for me. Yes, all those holes are full of hermit crabs Cache Name: GC1EBFY - Legend of Skeetr: Skeetr's Cove
  19. Okay, I admit it, I did take time to take the Turtle for a walk. But trying to post questions at a time that is good for everyone is harder than it sounds. So...who's ready for the final round? Battle of Okinawa Quiz #3 1. Who commanded the 10th Army at the beginning of the campaign? How was he killed, and why was his death significant? 2. Who took command after the above individual was killed? Why his assumption of command notable?? 3. What were the estimated death tolls for native Okinawans (a range is fine)? 4. What fact about the treatment of Okinawans at the hands of Japanese soldiers is still a source of heated debate? 5. What famous journalist lost his life during this battle? On what island is his memorial located? Last but not least… 6. What is the Cornerstone of Peace, and in what park is it located? I know, these ones are even harder than the last ones. Just hang in there, and remember to send your answers to jd_phestr@hotmail.com. It may take a little bit to post the winner, as the Turtle is begging to go out again, and I'm off early today. Good Luck!
  20. Tsun's Earth Turtle arrived for the first leg of it's international challenge!
  21. The first Earth Turtle World Tour has commenced! Apparently, he made it here mere days before his brothers and sisters, and will be touring the rich landscapes of Japan! Thanx, Stephanie, you'll see him again soon!
  22. I apologize to everyone, but work will not allow me the time to post good questions tonight. In order to make it a worthwhile quiz, I will be postponing the post until tomorrow night, roughly 8pm Mountain Time. Again, I apologize. See you tomorrow night!
  23. Thanx so much, D@nim@l! I've been trying to get that to work for a while. Not really fluent in bbcode yet. And Butterfly_lady, you have to click the Forum button in GC.com for updates to your profile to take, since the main website and forums are on different servers. I got caught by that one as well.
