  1. I go for the one's in the parks when the kids are with me, generally the finds are moe kid friendly, and not a lot of hiking. When i'm by myself, I either go for the urban micros, the long hikes, or the occasional one that's easier to get to by boat
  2. Most cachers are friendly one on one, it's the forum that draws the hate out in people, go figure.
  3. My blog covers everything from geocaching to photography to a little bit of life. I just recently switched to Wordpress, so there are only 25 or so entries, I should have kept the old content around, I've been blogging for a few years.
  4. It's all part of the same ballgame, Brian, and it is hardly a laughing matter. Well truly, yes it's all of the same ballgame in retrospect. But there are many more issues than just these that are included in that ballgame as well. I think this thread (issue) had to deal with who's responsible for removing "dead" caches that were once on the GC site. The answer is the owner. Saying GC has responsibility in it would be like saying if I hada website where I would list your campground if I approved of it and that I would be responsible for the actions of the campground. Not happening. The difference would be that you wouldn't list the campground as an official woodsters campground. Think about it, not knowing the game, if you found something you believed to be trash in the forest, with geocaching.com written all over it, who are you going to hold responsible? The cache owner? Who is that? Where is his contact info? Suppose someone doesn't really have permission to place a cache, but they did anyway, and now the landowner is upset. He might now know team woodsters, but he sure knows geocaching.com, it's listed on the cache. It's official it says. Perhaps it's a bit of a stretch, maybe not.
  5. The problem with these things and PDA's in general is screen size and lack of keyboard. It's not much more than a toy if you can't see or input data in an easy fashion. Long live the 12" notebooks!
  6. I say you are being obnoxious, but of course you're right, make a jab at someone, it's bound to be the truth! Look at me, I'm an attention whore! I got a ticket for littering once, I didn't even throw the trash out on the road, it was thrown out of my truck by some passengers. They read the trash inside (you know, kind of like gc.com's name all over a cache box). I got a letter telling me to appear in court. Too bad I was living in Maryland then, and spent some time in jail because SC had revoked my license for not showing up in court. To say it's not going to happen is just stupid. I'm not the only person in America to ever get fined for littering. It's kind of hard to find dampeoples or some handle, but gc.com, and it's 'official' geocache is fair game. You wanna string me up, go ahead.
  7. My children carry the GPS when we go, I'd efinately recommend at least an eTrex. I seem to remember something about one of the Gecko units not being able to connect to a PC, which would make it a bit harder to keep as a long term unit, at least for me.
  8. Perhaps all the leaders of the various geocaching clubs could meet on IRC, or on AOL IM or something, and hash out a doable plan, then each one could impliment it into their own groups. I know that doesn't encompass everyone, but it would be a start.
  9. Now it's time to order your first TB
  10. Something is in writing. This is something every cache hider agrees to as a condition of listing a cache on geocaching.com: As a matter of fact, for the last year or so, you can't even submit a cache listing unless you first check off that you read and understood that (along with the rest of the hiding guidelines). That's just saying that they will archive the listing, not leaving the responsibility of the cache owner to go pick it up and dispose of it. I'm not hating on GC or anyone. If someone can sue McDonalds for hot coffee, they can slap a littering fine on GC.com, my suggestion is to merely re-word the agreement to clearly define what's supposed to happen when it gets archived.
  11. Do you think GC owns my ammo box? Has the right to do with it as they want? I think not. They aren't paying any littering finds. Think real world. What happens when something is discovered. A couple of years ago a cache was discovered near me in a wilderness area. Forestry contacted the owner of the cache and had them pick it up at the ranger station. The cacher was warned about littering and promised to never do such a horrible thing again, in wilderness areas. You actually think they'll chase down Jeremy for a littering fine? If so I'm sending him the parking ticket I got while chasing down a cache. That was one event, wait until someone put one where they shouldn't, and it's discovered, especially if it's in one of those places like the park system in Florida. Most people put a handle in a cache, not their real name and address. It's not hard to chase down Jeremy for a littering fine, if he's the man behind the curtain
  12. Yeah, I've got MacGPS Pro as well I also use Terrabrowser, that's a nice little program to look at aerial pics/topo maps.
  13. Doesn't matter where the bickering or who's wrong/who's right leads us. Geocaching.com has their name all over the cache, kind of the face of Geocaching. If it ever became a problem, fingers would point to them, not he cache owner, especially if the cache has been archived. Something needs to be put into writing, before the littering fine happens, and it will.
  14. I ordered it three weeks ago, but have yet to see it in the mail
  15. Oops, I have another one on the way now I'm going to attach it to a mini-fishing reel, send it around to different lakes
  16. That sounds kind of cool, I recently made a Geocaching friend in California, and being on the East Coast, it's not always convienent to speak to him
  17. Why not, you probably won't be able to place a box within .10 miles of there anyhow.
  18. This could be entertaining if you were to identify the people, and let us caption it based on forum personalities
  19. There are not enough around here to temp me, although there was one close to me in TN that I wanted to visit.
  20. I always hated traveling for my job, but the time away was a nice break.
  21. That looks like an automotive fuse box with a magnet attached to it.
  22. Ha! You do realize you're sending him to a place where he can't drink? Lynhburg is in a dry county. The distillary tour is entirely "look, but don't touch." Yeah, but they give you lemonade at the end!
  23. yes, a sig test is in order
