  1. Thanks for the cointest! My first one Light side...We took a long caching trip last summer to attend our first GeoWoodstock and to do the Triad. On our way home, we spent a couple of days caching around Portland. At the end of a very long caching day, we were tired and stopped to grab some fast food for dinner. Got a notification as we were getting back in the GeoJeep and saw a new cache publish that was 453 feet from where we were standing. Four minutes later we were signing a blank log for an FTF! Our fastest record yet.
  2. Just want to echo some of the previous thoughts. DNFs are a valuable tool for cache owners as well as other cachers for caches that might be missing. Don't take DNFs as a sign of failure...there is no prize for caching except the joy of the game! We always answer emails from cachers who need hints on our caches...but then, we've only hidden 22. Please don't be hard on the people who may not answer, especially if they have tons of hides. Good suggestions already provided include contacting previous finders for a hint. You will find many, many people in the caching community who are willing to help and provide info! Hang in there and keep on caching! The more you do, the more experience you will get, and the better it will get. We STILL get hints from people on caches we can't find, and we always log our DNFs. It's kind of fun to go back and read them, especially if you go back later and find the cache. Mostly, just have fun! Happy Caching!
  3. Really trying to work with the beta maps and have a little issue. Don't know if it's been addressed (I did try to find it on the forums, but didn't see it anywhere). When "hovering" over the caches on the beta map, the name of the cache comes up really briefly and then disappears. Often can't even get the name to come up at all or it disappears as soon as it comes up. Is there some trick to making this work? Thanks in advance.
  4. Nice. Thanks for sharing the link for the color. It looks way better than all the white. I just wish they would get rid of fixed width.
  5. Is it too late to order some of these? I would like one of the Black Nickel (glitter) and one of the Antique Bronze. Here's hoping!
  6. Are there going to be new versions of musketeers as well? Is that what you mean by "waiting for the musketeers to go along?" And are all three versions going to be available on geoswag? I'm addicted, as you know.
  7. :anibad: Statistics STILL not accurate. Every time I check, the "Find Rate" and "Longest Streak" are totally wrong (shows 0/finds per day and longest streak as 1 day). If I "update my statistics," the correct info shows, but if I go out of the screen and come back in, they are wrong again. Friends' are doing the same thing. I'm not a big fan of the Statistics link, in the first place (I'd MUCH rather have the maps and fixed width issues fixed), but if we're gonna have the Statistics link, then I want it to be right. Sigh....
  8. Just got a notification that a trackable that I am watching has a new log entry for 5/7/11. The log entry isn't showing up on the trackable's page. Anybody else experiencing this?
  9. Don't know if this has been reported or if anybody else is having the problem, but when we check our statistics, it shows "0/finds per day" and "longest streak" as 1 day (we've actually done 101 days). When we try to update the stats, get the error screen directing us back to the website. Next time we check the stats, they are correct. Then, when check again, they are wrong again.
  10. The "short description" text box on the edit cache page is still only two lines long. Can that be increased a bit? Thanks.
  11. While I totally agree with you that fixed width needs to be changed back. However, please don't make the assumption that it should be okay for IE users just because you aren't one. We use IE (just upgraded to IE9) and are perfectly happy with it. It's a big jump to assume that all the IE users would be okay with fixed width, 'cause that just isn't true. Also agree with you on making the transparency on background images an option for cache owners.
  12. I generally support GS in trying to make our caching experience better. Have tried to be patient with the update coming because we use the maps all the time. Weighing in our opinion now: HATE the new maps for the these reasons: 1. If you want to show finds/owned hides, you have to enable personalization EVERY TIME YOU OPEN THE MAPS. Really???? Can't we just set this as our default??? 2. The difference between an unfound PMO cache (little yellow circle) and a found cache (little yellow smiley) is practically indistinguishable if you zoom the map out even one time. 3. Hovering over a cache on the map doesn't show you the name anymore 4. You can't zoom in as far on a particular cache as you could on the old maps unless you open the map from each cache page. What is the point of that??? 5. Can't get the "street view" of a cache from the new maps like you could on the old one. To see a street view, you have to open another "old" google map from the cache page. 6. For our taste, the new map is way too "muted" in colors. On the old maps, finds and unfound caches were pretty clear. Fuzzy edges on the new map. 7. Don't have a numbered list of the caches showing on the side of the map, like before. We used these ALL the time. Would even just like this as an option??? Also, the background on cache pages is totally messed up. The transparency of the cache page now allow the background to show through too much and it makes the cache pages really, really hard to read. Apparently, changing the way the cache page backgrounds are displayed has also allowed "hidden" text to show up on some puzzle cache pages. We were lucky because, after this got totally messed up with the last upgrade, we quit hiding stuff on the puzzle pages. Just our two cents worth...I would much rather pay lots more for my GS premium membership and be assured of some positive, TIMELY, response to concerns. STOP TRYING TO FIX THINGS THAT AREN'T BROKEN. We had a number of puzzle caches that got messed up with the last release when the whole html issue came up. That didn't happen to us this time, but it has happened to others (see previous posts). We still have a ton of logs that had the "old" html in them that never got corrected after that last debacle. As far as the "squished" cache pages, if I had wanted little, bitty writing on my laptop, I wouldn't have bought one with a 17" screen.
  13. Please fix the backgrounds on cache pages back to what they were - more like a border. Backgrounds are WAY too prominent on top of the text of cache pages, making them difficult to read. See GC2M394 as an example. WAY too busy! Thanks.
  14. I am looking for the following geocoins to purchase or trade: Canada Geocaching Zone (5-coin set) Both Venetian Mask coins from Seattle I have a ton of coins for possible trade, so please email me if there are coins you might want. Or a price! I can always hope Thanks!
  15. Thanks to all for your service to our country. We have a combined total of 46 years in the United States Air Force - husband retired after 26 years in 1992, and I retired after 20 years in 2000. God bless the USA and all our young service people from all branches now serving.
  16. In answer to the original questions, no and no. The practices are dishonest. Cachers who practice leap-frogging are only cheating themselves (to what end, we wonder?? - are there prizes at the end of life for those who die with the most caches?), but those who swap caches really burn me because they mess with logs from other honest cachers who played fair and signed the caches they actually found in the place they were originally hidden. IMHO
  17. We went to the Turtle Bay Maze in August and we were told there used to be a coin, but they "thought" they were all sold out. The guy we spoke with didn't really seem to know. We had emailed in advance to see if there was a coin and somebody from there answered us and told us they would be getting more of them and, if we would provide our email, they would notify us when they came in. Contacted them once since then and have received no reply. We think there might have been a coin but can't find one anywhere. Never saw one in the GS shop. We would LOVE to get one of these coins. Does anybody know where??
  18. Can someone tell me what a PM is? Also, what is Mathtrade? Just wondering. New to the forum. Thanks!
  19. So frustrated. Since the latest update, the icons are not printing again on the little maps. Using IE8. This was a problem for a long time after the last upgrade, finally got fixed, and is now broken again. Please please please fix this. The icon prints on "printer-friendly" pages, but not if you just print the cache page. Really glad the broken geocoin activation retrieval link is finally fixed!! Thanks GS for all the hard work.
  20. Will they be getting another shipment of the Antique Silver? It's sold out!
  21. What is really frustrating is we found that, once the error occurs, we have to completely reboot our computer to make it work again. Would like to know what's going on.
  22. Experiencing the same thing. Very frustrating! What's up??
  23. You don't have to send them a picture...just email them the number and they'll give you the code. It's as easy as getting it from the manufacturer...actually, easier 'cause you don't have to track them down. Let me re-phrase that. If you are one of the ones for whom it works, you can just go to the link on the "trackables" page. There is a link to get the activation codes and you just need the tracking number. If yours is one of the accounts that doesn't work for, then just email them for the code.
