  1. Could you use gpx spinner to spin the pocket query .gpx file into an html dirctory with many html and picture files then load that directory on to the card and open the index file and use it that way?
  2. if you become a premium member or somehow get the gpx files you need you can use gpx2html http://www.fizzymagic.net/Geocaching/gpx2h...ml#Introduction it is free and plucker which is also free. Ask your parents to finance the 3 dollars a month for the premium membership, tell them it will get you out of the house and into nature and the outdoors.
  3. Just like the topic says, are there any plans to add the new terrain view option in google maps to the maps on GC.com? It would be a neat addition and is way better than the topo maps that are there now.
  4. Sigh.......... I did that but it didn't seem to do anything. tried both Spinner and GSAK. I made a new sunrise file and set the preferences and called it All Finds and pointed it to the proper folder and, within that folder, the index file but I don't see what to do after that. I did a hot sync and nothing appeared on the Palm. I only show the single index file in the sunrise window. This must be really easy. Normally I don't have issues figuring out this sort of thing. Maybe I'm just extra dense today. You did hit the update button, right? Yep Darn. This is what works for me. After uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling, the file now updates properly. However, I still can't sync to the Palm. I checked the hotsync setup and it doesn't show the sunrise xp conduit. Now every time I start up sunrise I get a dll error. The dll in question IS in the palm folder where it belongs. If I copy it over to the sunrise folder then I get a different dll error. I copy that one over and get a different dll error. This is really p***ing me off. I might as well stick with Plucker and just resign myself to not being able to do the all finds database or any other large database. At least it works for everything else. Just keep copying/getting errors, eventually they will go away. I think there are like 6 .dll's you have to move. I did a bunch of googling and it appears the errors are caused because palm used to install its software into Program Files/Palm now its just C:/Palm and sunrisexp is still looking in program files to find the .dll's After fixing the errors you should be able to hotsync properly. I went through all this as well
  5. I have been caching for about a month now and finally picked up a Palm M515 off ebay. After seeing everyone recommend cachemate I immediatly purchased it and started experimenting with it on my PDA. It was OK, and I though I was happy. Then I read somewhere about GPXspinner/Plucker. After getting that working I must say that it is 1000 times better than chachemate. It has cache pages that look just like they do on GC.com, Maps, and Pictures! It seems like for me anyway there is no contest. Now my question I guess is am I missing something with cachemate? The only thing I could see with it is the ability to log your finds. It is a neat feature, but there is a freeware program for Palm that will do the exact same thing.
  6. Interesting, I'll check out the GSAK output, but I'm really happy with Spinner. I did ditch Plucker, but went to iSilo which I love. Quick, easy and does pics, too. I tried this too, I like spinner more, it will allow you to grap TB pages and also will get you maps and such on your PDA. Have a look at the .ini file in the spinner directory

    Age?

How old is everyone here? Looking at the pictures of cachers that are on the logs/gallerys it seems that most cachers are in their early 40's late 30's or older. I am 24 and am now obsessed with this sport, am I a young whipper-snapper compared to the average cacher?
  8. I tried Cachemate and even purchased the registration code for it, then I read in this very thread about plucker and gpxspinner and decided to try them. I like this combination so much that I never actually used cachemate other than playing with it when I first registered it. Being able to see the images and logs formated in an html page is so much better than the plain text of cachemate. Also spinner can download maps and ariel views and embed them on your cache page. I don't use GSAK either, I just use the google map view on the geocaching.com page to find the caches I want to hunt that day and bookmark them. I then run a PQ from the bookmarks and import that into gpxspinner. I then use the gpx that spinner creates to upload to my gps, then I update the Plucker file on my pda.
  9. Not an animal story, but it sure scared the heck outtta me anyway. Recently I was exploring a cache site called "Ghost Town." The site is an anbandoned town in the middle of the redwoods. Its really creepy normally, and it was getting dark which added to the creepiness factor. I was looking in one of the houses and went into a room that was very dark, I saw a door that was partially open and decided to investigate. I had to push really hard to get it to open, when it did this half burned doll fell from above the doorway and started laughing maniacally. Jumped so high I must have nearly hit the ceiling. When I finally figured out what it was, I realized it was one of those pull string dolls, someone had mad a trap of sorts with the doll and some old wood and the door to scare the pants off of anyone who came in. It sure did work LOL. And yes I put it back for the next person LOL --John
  10. What kind of batteries do you use in your GPSr and how long do they normally last? I use the Energiser Lithium ones, I have been out 3 different full days ( prolly 20 hours total ) on the current set and it still shows full 3 bars of battery! They sure are expensive though, I think I paid 23.99 for an 8 pack at Radio Shack.
