  1. I've been called names by someone who's probably twice as old as me. Met him out caching and we chatted a bit, got back home and saw that I was insulted in his log! Only cacher I've ever met that I don't like. I think caching has made me more adventurous. I keep an eye out for physically challenging/"dangerous" caches now. Nine times out of ten it's those caches that I end up have the best memories about.
  2. I recently did a cache where the trailhead was in back of a school, in back of the playground. It was about 12:30 on a Thursday, too, so there were kids on the playground. I just parked and walked right to the trail and never got a second look from any teachers or the kids. I figure that if they're going to have a public trail start right next to the playground they've got to expect people to use it at all hours. I've never seen a playground with an age limit, either. If the parents don't like it, tough. I always try to be inconspicuous when it comes to retrieving the cache. I’ve used the old GPS as a phone trick plenty of times, and it works like a charm. It also seems like having a hiking stick keeps people from eyeing me. I refuse to let paranoia interfere with caching, though. Parents can get creeped out all they want, but in the end I’m not doing a thing wrong.
  3. I've finally decided to make my own avatar instead of using cover art. My guestion is, what does everyone like better. White stroke or no white stroke? I kind of like it without the stroke, but it gets hard to make out the wolf when it's resized.
  4. Here. Or maybe you mean something like this.
  5. Are you sure this guy didn't have a hand in that?
  6. I saw an ammo can for sale on eBay. Maybe it's my cache that was stolen. Or NOT.
  7. I didn't realize feathers could be illegal. That seems a bit odd, but I suppose it's a useful law if you think about it. I just updated the descripton to reflect that. It's not the bones that I thought people would find disrespectful, but the fact that I hid it in a cemetery. It just seemed fitting to me. Heck, there's even a little park in there!
  8. I'm just curious how many people think my new cache is gross and disrespectful. From the logs I guess it's safe to say children don't find it revolting!
  9. I'm proud that I've got a bunch of FTF's but don't make a big stink about it. It's not like anyone cares, anyway.
  10. Everyone loves the ninja grandma with carrot nunchucks.
  11. That would be an awesome shirt. I'd buy one, just as long as the shirt wasn't yellow.
  12. Well that's offensive. Did you think for a half a second before you posted it? Just think of all the poor people who died in that accident. What a sickening show of disrespect. Come to think of it, a picture of someone hold up an ammo can wearing just a bra and pants is offensive, too.
  13. I've always collected skulls and bones when I'm out hiking. Sadly I've never found anything larger then a deer. I've got quite the collection, though, and if I can ever bring myself to part with them I might hide a bone themed cache! Oops! She's not a skull!

    My New Bug

I'd just like to say that I think your bug is an excellent and well thought out idea, Snoogans. I hope it gets moving soon!

    My New Bug

Unless the cache container is exceptionally large and can accomodate the bug it's not part of the cache. The cache page, yes, but not truely the cache. Further more, for something to be a rule there has to be authority. The actual approving and archiving of caches (and I believe a bugs number can be deactivated, too) is the only authority any geocaching admins have when it comes to physical aspects of caches. Now that's not an attack, but just what I believe is the case. Online they've got plenty of authority, but there's no way they can monitor things out in the world. If there's something in a cache that's not allowed what are they going to do? Archive it? There's really not much that can be done. I don't think I'm above the rules (I've never actually put knives in a cache, even though I easily could and just not log it). I just think that if there are no concrete rules for travel bugs then that's basically saying that anything that's not illegal is allowed. Perhaps they should ammend the travel bug section to include guidelines on what's allowed. Perhaps I'm just too analytical. As far as thinking the bug is too large, that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, I'd point out that I never deemed it original, mearly different. My intent was to find out if there were any bugs that were like mine. There are definitely some other strange bugs out there, which is really cool! Thanks to all the people who replied with info that was relevent to what I asked. As far as the knife goes, if an approver is really that against it then just ask and I'll take it out. Simple as that. The bug is still local enough that I can get it back. Oh, and I fail to see how I could be called ignorant. For that to be true I'd have to have a lack of knowledge and understanding about what I was doing. As you can see that is clearly not the case. Call it taking advantage of the system if you will, but the only ignorant person I see here is you. I'd ask that an admin lock this useless thread and I appologize to anyone who was actually finding it interesting before it regretfully went horribly off topic (to which I'm equally to blame).

    My New Bug

I never thought of it being like a traveling cache, but your absolutly right. It's just got a somewhat more personal touch. The pic isn't of the actual bug, I took it after releasing it. I don't remember what was on it, but it's something different.
  17. SCP-173

    My New Bug

That's awesome. I wish I could find some bugs that are just plain wacky and so absurd they're funny!
  18. SCP-173

    My New Bug

Firstly, I asked if anyone has ever seen a bug like mine. Nothing more. Frankly I don't care how you or anyone feels about knives. If someone is afraid of a 3 inch tool (because that's all a knife is, it's the person that makes it a weapon) then they have issues. The rules are for caches, not travel bugs. Sure, I'm taking advantage of that, but that's the reality of it. I've found dozens of caches with swiss army type knives in them anyway, so apparently other people feel the same way. Heck, there's even a knife themed cache that hasn't been forcably archived. If somebody doesn't want a travel bug containing a knife on their property then they can remove it. They can even keep it for all I care. I'd rather lose the $5 TB, $3 ammo can and $1.50 knife then comform to make paranoid people happy. I may sound like a jerk, but it's my bug. I'd rather lose out on a few places to cache then have more rules layed down on me. Now that I'm done with that rant that shouldn't have been necessary I can actually make some replys that are relevent to this topic. I don't really expect the bug to move around all that fast, I just hope no one decides to keep it. I wrote "travel bug" all over it with a sharpie and put a big travel bug sticker on the inside of it, so I'd hope people realize it's not the cache. I just thought it would be something (a lot!) different from the norm. ghOzt: I don't plan on having it come back to me. I figure when (if) it gets that full I'll just tell whoever has it to keep half the stuff and send it on its way.

    My New Bug

Has anyone ever seen another travel bug like mine, or am I the only one crazy enough to do it? http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=79188
  20. A fellow geocacher and I went to an event this winter in a park with lots of caches. While looking for one of them another guy came up and started looking too. We found the cache first, and it was frozen under a tree. After a bit of work we got it out, all while the other guy just stood there. I said that it was really frozen in there, to which he only said "I've dug caches out of 9 inches of ice". I doubt that's even true, by the way. He also told us he found the cache earlier that morning. Funny thing is, the snow above it was undisturbed, there were no foot prints and we were the first ones to sign the log that day. Although maybe that wasn't a case of being clueless, and just being a habitual liar. Some other genius put a big piece of pink foam and a huge pile of rocks infront of one of my caches, too.
  21. What I think should be changed is the people who keep a tally on FTFs and make sure to let everyone know. I've got a bunch, but couldn't tell you how many. Here's a news flash... no one cares how many you found first! As the saying goes... you snooze you loose. If you're really that bent on getting first finds and upset you're not you could always just hide caches with a new name and sign the log book with your real name.
  22. I just wonder how many of you whiners actually find that many McDonalds toys and baseball cards. So far I've seen only 2 or 3 caches with cards, and only a handful with McDonalds toys. If you don't like the items in caches then take your $2, drive out to a store and buy your own stupid prizes and stop complaining. I'm 20 and I've taken a McDonalds toy! Unlike some people I guess I just take something, anything, from a cache just to trade. I don't go out expecting to find something worthy of framing and hanging on the wall.
