  1. Your reply is unrelated and utterly ridiculous. Junglehair is just doing her duty by helping caches stick to the guidlines. I guess this means that the "rules" can be broken if you have money?
  2. They're in a protected area. http://www.senecawhitedeer.org/
  3. White (not albino) deer. Just a snake. Almost forgot this one. It's a mother bird playing dead to distract me from her nearby chicks.
  4. Put me down for 1, if there are any left. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for giving an answer Leprechauns. Right or wrong, it works for me. Closing this thread before it goes even more off topic.
  6. I was going to say that the depot is a permanent location, and the deer have been there since 1941 and are not going anywhere. I figured it couldn't hurt to try. But that's unrelated and unimportant, now. I emailed the GSA admins prior to submitting the cache asking if it would be appropriate. The one who replied said he thought it was a cool idea and that I should submit it to see what the others thought. When it was approved he emailed me back and said, quote: "We have approved this and seen what the community thinks (we think its neat by the way!)". It has nothing to do with geology, but aparently people on both sites liked it and thought it was good enough to list. Anyway, the listing of the earthcache is a very likely reason for never getting a reply that I did not think of.
  7. That's good to hear. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who likes something a little different. Thanks for adding that. Sad to see this thread is deteriorating so rapidly and going off topic before the question was even answered, though. Where's the "only admins can reply" forums. Ask what the purpose of an email address is and get your caches insulted instead.
  8. The approving of earthcaches is done by the GSA. Geocaching.com just lists them.
  9. On March 31st I had a cache archived, and I thought I had a good case for arguing it's unarchiving and approval. For the first time I tried sending an email to appeals@geocaching.com and here it is April 11th and I never got a reply. I don't really care about the cache, I became tired of waiting and got it listed as an earthcache instead. I'm just wondering if that address really is for an appeal on an archived cache or if it's for something else. I realize there's a lot of email sent to Groundspeak and that a wait is to be expected, but 11+ days seems a bit long.
  10. So did CCCA quit or what?
  11. They'll list anything... in no time at all.
  12. Is there any good reason why travel bugs placed in a new, unapproved cache get put on the most recent travel bug listing and have a notice sent to people watching them? One of the last caches I hid had 2 bugs in it and I didn't want actually put them in there until the cache was approved, for just this reason. Well I go out to eat, the cache gets approved, someone takes the bugs, grabs them from my account and totally screws up the mileage (which was something like 100 miles). Now with my latest cache I put a Jeep TB in it and figured I'd just place it in the page early since I figured no one in the area was watching it and I didn't want it to be grabbed like the others. Well, no one was watching it, but someone saw it listed on the recent travel bug logs page and is now asking about my unapproved cache, which as it turns out may not even be approved. Can't bugs in unapproved cached be excluded from notices like that?
  13. The two best things I've found in caches are 2 live bullets in the middle of nowhere in a PA game lands (after a little work they made good keychains) and a Case XX folding knife that a turkey hunter who stumbled upon a cache left. Yes, I realize both of those are "no nos". The worst is religious pamphlets, closely followed by a ketchup packet and a Wendy's spork.
  14. I'd be more impressed by what someone owns.
  15. Four Windows Starry, Starry Night Magnum's Cache I had more fun doing Starry, Starry Night then I did doing numerous traditional caches...
  16. You forgot to list photos in your gallery. I like to keep mine above my number of finds. I'm also looking foreward to hitting 50 hides.
  17. A. I don't need a permit for something that's not even hidden yet. Why would I waste my time doing either of those things before the admins let me even know if an exception would be made. B. I've got the pamphlet in my hands and it says nothing about stages of a multi. C. Are you an admin? Thanks for the "reply" anyway.
  18. This post is for admins and approvers to comment on. My local approver is taking a break and the one who's filling in for him said he couldn't make the decision to make an exception to the rules himself. I figured one of the approvers here might be able to take a look at this for me. I'd like to hide a cache in a park on the north end of Seneca Lake, but there's already a 5 part multi that spans the entire shoreline and is taking up all the good spots. I want to hide a cache at these coordinates, which are about 250 feet from one of the multi's parts. N42°52.149' W76°56.490' The thing is the multi is only using a sign, there's nothing even hidden there. The rest of the park is pretty much nothing but open fields and picnic tables (except for where the final part of the multi is hidden), so options for a hiding location for anything bigger then a micro are limited. The final part is also quite a distance from my coordinates. I think in this case the 528 feet rule is doing the exact opposite of what it's meant to do. So, is there any chance an exception can be made? Thanks.
  19. Here's one more. Ye Olde Golfe Balle Cache(e)
  20. Okay here's something else about FTF. I just hid the final part of a multi the other day and then had my father help me hide the first part later that night. Since it would be stupid for him to make a second trip back I let him go and log the final part, since it was already hidden earlier. After it was approved I posted a note saying it was already found, since he was at work and couldn't log it, as a nicety for the people who may have cared about logging it first. Next thing I know NY Admin posts a reviewer note saying "I'd be interested in knowing who found a multi less than 5 minutes after it was approved". Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't I be allowed to let someone log my own cache before it's approved if they're already there? I've done it many times on other peoples cache if I was there when it was hidden. I don't have the money to waste making a second trip 10-20+ miles to sign the log of a cache that I've already been to. I don't even claim to be the first finder, because I couldn't care less. Now if my father wanted to (which he didn't) who cares? I say there's nothing wrong with logging caches before they're approved. It's my cache, and if the locals and the approvers don't like the fact that I saved my father a second trip and as a result "gave away" the first to find then tough. Edited to add: And suprise suprise, the locals didn't care.
  21. Virtuals should just be removed from the list of cache types so no one can even try to hide one. When was the last time one was approved anyway? Why not just get it over with.
  22. I've seen a guy like that. I beat him to a FTF by 5 minutes about 60-70 miles away from his home and he almost didn't even bother to find the cache. He only found it so he could post some photos with his log.
  23. Sig items, bones, foreign coins, patches and pins are what I trade for if they're in a cache. I also like to find knives more then anything else. They're always big hits and quick to be taken (by someone who wants them, not someone who's removing them) when I leave them in my caches, too. They're not supposed to be in there, but the world wont stop if they are.
  24. One of my caches is hidden in a cemetery, and to top it off the theme is animal bones. I've yet to get anything but positive remarks on it.
