  1. Edited I think what they were implying is that people are caching more now with Wireless access? As the internet has always been a part of geocaching in at least the preliminary stage (to obtain the cache data).
  2. Try this! That is a big help. Also, many cache hiders are more than willing to give you some kind of a hint on HOW to solve the puzzle if you message them. Ultimately, most hiders WANT people to find their cache so they do not mind helping a little here and there.
  3. I guess my attitude is that it is really the cheaters loss. I mean, I love puzzle caches. To me, it would take the fun away from the puzzle if I went to some site and someone else gave me the answer. Hints are one thing, but I much rather get those from the creator of the puzzle so I can solve it the way it was intended to be solved.
  4. I have a travel bug hotel. Its in a kind of place so i know it will not get hit a lot but I have placed it for people who have travel bugs who have a goal of visiting places near the water. It is on a beach on an island. I just placed it in the Fall so it has only been found once but come spring/summer, I think it will see more action.
  5. While I think everything is fine the way it is..... I think the OP had the best intentions when suggesting the idea and people should certainly be encouraged to posting what they thing would be good ideas. After all, even if it is not an idea that is used, they feel what they are suggesting would benefit the game. Nothing wrong with that! Thank you for sharing your idea!
  6. You should all know by now that we are ALL being watched at ALL times
  7. I have a 3 year old son and he has really taken to caching, though not as much as daddy. I also have nephews and a niece who have gone with us who really enjoy it. Cole, our 3 year old, has turned some of his toys into toy GPSs that he sometimes takes and follows around. That is quite funny to watch actually. One thing that I really like about the caching is it teaches him to not hog all of the toys for himself. He has gotten used to the whole "take something leave something" rule and he does not get heart-broken (usually) if there is nothing to grab.
  8. I had been trying to tell a friend of mine about the game and he was interested but had not had the time. He then stumbled across a cache accidentally and called me the next day wondering what he does next to log the cache and to get into the game. He has since found two others (last time I checked) and one of them was one of my hides which became his first FTF.
  9. I consider it a sport. Why not?? People often consider hiking a sport. The fun thing is that it is only as competitive and difficult as you want it to be.
  10. Maybe you should read the book "The Zombie Survival Guide" for ideas. lol
  11. If its a private Island. Most Islands here in Maine are public property with a couple of exceptions.
  12. I have 2 island caches that I had placed. I did not give it a high difficulty rating due to the fact that there is a public ferry but I did include a link to the website of the ferries so people can view the schedules at their own convenience.
  13. Have you contacted the cache owner for help? It is generally considered bad form to post to the forums looking for puzzle cache solutions. Why would it be bad form? Yes I left a note on the log. But...That is what these forums are for to discuss and compare caches, right? I solved the puzzle and I am just asking if anyone can come up with a different answer to help me out. If anyone wants to find the answer, but doesn't want to post it here, please email me , I would appreciate any help. No the forums are not to come to get other people to solve puzzles for you. They are for people do discuss guidlines and caching in general.
  14. Is there a public ferry that people can take to get there?
  15. Sounds like you found an awesome solution. Hopefully, others will be inspired by your hides, and your home turf won't become a bastion of lameness. Actually, there is something fairly similar. From the guidelines: A geocacher whose previous finds and hides are all within 25 miles of their home would likely not see their cache published if placed 250 miles away from their home. Yes but that is not a rule but a guideline.
  16. I find a pencil or pen works really well though I am sure some people swear on crayons. Seriously. I came across some mini-pens and mini-pencils at Big Lots. The pens have chains so you could put it on your keychain. Thats what I did so I ALWAYS will have it with me.
  17. I have someone who has picked up 3 of my bugs in like October or November. They have moved one on and still have 2. I am not worried yet, the fact that they moved one on is a good thing and caching does slow down here in the Winter months. I will wait until Spring before I really start panicking.
  18. What it comes down to is this... Does it really matter? I have had MORE people say "That sounds fun!" then comment on the weirdness. If they don't like it you just don't bore them with details. As far as normal goes, there is no such thing anymore and that is a GOOD thing.
  19. But you are supposed to live close to the cache and not place any more than .10 mile from each other right? There are several small parks around us where they have so many that you can't place any more. It doesn't seem fair. There is no rule to how close you have to live and the distance should be valid if the reviewer gave it the thumbs up for publication.
  20. I don't see any reason why not! Usually its the cache owner who determines that. However, I can say that if I was the cache owner I would certainly be ok with that. As long as someone can sign the physical log. Also, as mentioned previously, a big thank you to him....and you as well.
