  1. Apologies to the OP for OT comment. Agree with others: If he chooses to add a back-dated log, do include a simple note why. It's common and, from what I've read on this thread, easily proven in his case.
  2. My problem is that I would much rather go out to find caches that I would WANT to favorite. Then the choice becomes even tougher. ? So I have the "Needs FPs" list's alter-ego: "Crappy Fix-Its" list.
  3. So you've given up. (etc., etc.) Wow. That's a whole lot of somebody else's words to have to chew on and swallow. But spoken like a true coach: Shake it off! Rub some dirt on it! You're gonna let the team down! The quoted CO has chosen to stop. Just as people who express their dislike for power trails or lamp post caches are advised to simply filter out that aspect, "just don't do them, then", cachers who find ownership above their thresholds of frustration should be allowed to make the same choice of NOT participating in that aspect of the hobby without being demonized. As you may or may not have noticed in the rest of the post where another cacher is quoted (I'll hone in on the salient point here):
  4. I feel the OP's pain. I have been in the same position. I include in the log that a FP will be awarded when I earn another ... and then do so when I get another. You're allowed to add your FP without having log again. If you're finding quite a few that you want to give favorite points when you accrue some, and are concerned that you won't remember them all, perhaps you could create a private List named something like "Needs FPs", and add those caches to the list; delete them from the list when you've awarded it the FP .
  5. Yes, there is a little strategic planning involved, and I like that aspect. (Unfortunate that strategy was hindered by glitches, but it appears they're on it.) And yes, good point: 3 weeks seems to me to be a generous amount of time to plot and plan for logging 35 caches.
  6. Yeah, I was thinking along those lines, too. I do get where you're coming from (and this is the first I heard about that). On the other hand, at least it's not *500*! I might could try for 35 ... and I'll be okay if I don't get that last one. Heck, as soon as I saw the 500 finds requirement (or something like that) for a previous promo, I made peace right then and there that was never going to happen for me. I chose not to let it affect my future caching options. Gotta be a tough balancing act, to keep it interesting for the cachers with lots of options and yet keep it do-able for those who don't. Again, I understand your plight. I just appreciate that they've at least made it more interesting ... and taken into account (at least, in my mind) the folks in areas not so rich in caches.
  7. I've seen some plans for logging - and therefore advancing - then deleting those logs and adding a proper log. It was my plan to start out the same (logging the cache and advancing), but simply editing the already posted log. Any reason for deleting and re-posting, rather than just editing? Edit: Well, I'm just gonna do what I'd planned (just edit). I got jewels to find!
  8. Thanks to you both, I am rewording OP slightly.
  9. Normally, I use Android phone ... for phone. The app I normally use doesn't seem to have static maps anymore, here recently.
  10. Thanks for that info. I cannot receive map data while in "the wild" here. I am basically going from a dot (me) to another dot (the cache) in a field of white and grey checkerboard. Edit to include that I do download all before heading out.
  11. In another thread, I noticed quite a few people weighing on the topic of where cell service is marginal to non-existent. I think that's really useful to know if you're planning a caching expedition. Would you please note whether you can depend on using a cell phone to locate caches "on the fly" in areas that you may know? I can tell you that in central Southside Virginia (bordering NC), there are many areas where you will be unable to access cache info, unless you are directly in a town. I strongly recommend pre-trip downloads and GPSr here.
  12. After taking a look at an expanded search area, that seems to be true in my area, too; however, I was very pleased to see that I did have some options available that wouldn't require a 2-hour roundtrip. In fact, I had a few within 30 miles, and I appreciate it. I must have been in the glitch zone/time that others posted about earlier. It's lovely out here, but cell service sucks. Ah, well, I still have 30 days to attempt to apprehend the thieves.
  13. You can find all clues everywhere. You are not restricted to your Home area for any of them. I'm 99% sure that's a very good guess on my part. Yes, a very good guess. I am on the border of two states, and can look for clue caches in each of them.
  14. ... and in the upper right corner (just below the Favorite count) is a link, "Download this Geo-Tour."
  15. That is cool! I wouldn't have caught the significance of those placements, but I know we have some cachers in our area who would have "got it" and smiled.
  16. Yep, there would probably be some who did exactly that. Not bad figures ... all of them. (I especially like the "not sure what to think" category!)
  17. This thread was reminding me of a message I got from a new cacher about what to do about a coin she picked up from a cache, "...where there were several with the same tracking #, " and somebody grabbed it, though it was in her hands. I was skeptical, but we worked all that out, and she went happily caching away, dropping coins and TBs as she went. ? I just now looked it up again, and found that the page had been updated to include: How confusing would *200* trackables with the same # be!!??? So, OP, better one than 200 mysteries to solve, eh?
  18. It is a bit strange, but keep in mind that if the previous TB handler forgot to log a Drop, it might have traveled to the cache where you found it via another cacher. If the other TB listed in the cache inventory was NOT there, I'd guess the person who did that drop was the accidental carrier - however he might have gotten the TB. I guess you *could* try to follow the many trails of cache visitors and see where their paths might have intersected with the previous TB handler to track down what happened, to satisfy your curiosity. (I would only spend that amount of time for my own TBs. ? ) Or you could try to contact the TO, possibly send a pic, if you wanted to make really sure all is in order with their TB. (Although I note he's not active since 2011.) My bet is on the forgot to log a drop *somewhere* + auto-visit scenario. Since your grab shows AFTER his last log, perhaps all is good. Smile, drop, carry on. Perhaps more experienced cachers will have more ideas.
  19. So. Could the OP create a Challenge Cache, the challenge being "log this many DNFs"... post a list?
  20. That is weird. Since you were able to grab it, which I assume you did by entering the tracking #, it would seem to be that you do have the TB in question. Was it not listed in the cache inventory? Perhaps the previous TB handler accidentally logged a Drop on the TB, meaning to Drop a different one. Or just forgot to show the drop, and his TB visiting is on auto-pilot.
  21. I'm a swag-dropper instead of -trader. I can only remember trading swag once, when I found a cool (to me) leather guitar-pick-holder-keychain. (Because you never know when you might need to strum a few bars while driving, right?) I don't have a signature item with my trail name, though if I come across a bunch of something that seems swag-worthy and fairly universally appealing or useful, it becomes my "temporary sig item" until my supply runs out. (Currently, every cache gets a "Fortune Telling Fish", along with other stuff, if space allows. And if it's in a dry location, I add a NASA sticker.) Otherwise, it really depends on the cache - how big, where located, if it has a theme - so carry a variety in my cachepack. I tend to go a little overboard on some caches: I'm a sucker for ammo cans in the woods, and I always try to leave a bit of something special for kids' caches. For a cache created for the youngest member of a caching family, their "little princess" ... (Yeah, I went through a can-coozy phase for a while. ? ) Ammo cans might get one or a mix of trail-worthy items...carabiner pen, emergency t.p., collapsible cup, tick key, mini-multitool, OFF wipes, etc., OR kid-friendly toys/activities (not mctoys), movie- or superhero-themed pocket tissues, planes, whirly-gigs, little flashlights, etc. I *try* to remember to leave a variety of values, for those who do trade. I've recently looked at either making or purchasing pathtags or something. But I'll have to run out of cachepack inventory first, and that's gonna take a WHILE.

  23. Panmunjeon has restricted civilian access and requires a mandatory military escort. When I visited I had to sign a disclaimer that I would hold no one responsible if I were killed while visiting. Admittedly, that could up the excitement factor ....
