  1. It's tough to wear snake boots in the summer here, so I usually wear sneakers and long (thinner) pants if I know I will be in the woods. We generally don't do much caching in the summer anyway because of the heat though. In the winter I wear boots (I think 12"?) and jeans with the jeans on the outside.
  2. Did it today. Oldest daughter had a friend sleep over last night. Took her home today around noon and while leaving her development noticed a side street. I remembered seeing a cache there on the map and went after it. Didn't find it, but didn't log it as a DNF as I may have been in the wrong area. That reminds me, I need to look where it is so I can grab it next time I am that way without the gps. lol It would probably be easier if I just bring the gps with me.
  3. 1536 consecutive days without a find from 01/05/2005 to 03/21/2009
  4. Just saw this thread and couldn't figure out what they were talking about..... until I looked a the date it was posted. lol We have a Dodge Durango (2wd) so we can't go after the 4x4 ones. I don't even think there are any around here anyway.
  5. We just picked up a couple Heritage Redfish 14 foot kayaks. I haven't even had them in the water yet. Got them used from a friend of a friend a little over a week ago and just finished building a trailer for them yesterday. Once I get a couple new tires we will head out and grab some caches with them. I only know of a few water only caches (I haven't looked up more yet) here in Central Florida, but I know there are some more on the coasts that we will eventually try to get. Have you considered a sit on top kayak? I know of a few people in South Florida that take their sit on tps offshore for fishing. A 10 foot Heritage Redfish (or something similar) would work for the mangroves and canals, but not be real good for offshore. You want something bigger (12'-14') to head offshore with. As far as loading it on your car, there are systems where you put one end of the kayak on your car, lock it on, and then swing up the other end. I have never used that system, but I have seen it mentioned before, probably on paddling.net or Floridasportsman.com. Good luck
  6. Drop it off in the next cache you visit that you can/want put it in. When you log that cache as found, you will see your travel bug inventory at the bottom of that page where you can select "dropped off" and it will put it in the cache.
  7. We did the opposite. Our 100th cache was not planned but was a cool cache that we all remembered as it was a giant ammo can at a park. The kids thoroughly enjoyed it and it just happened to be our 100th cache. About a year later I noticed that I had logged a cache twice early on in our caching. I deleted one of them since we did not find it twice. Our 100th cache then became our 99th cache. Oh well, we have the memory of the find and that is what matters to us.
  8. how would the non cacher know what/where the nearest cache is? Maybe they used the gps they just picked up that has caches loaded into it.
  9. I've had a GPS for a while now for fishing and hiking. A while ago (year and a half or so) I was bored at work and read an article in the paper that there was going to be a treasure hunt happening in the area I lived put on by Magellan and there were some great prizes. I told my wife and she wanted to play too as we both love puzzles and games. We ended up being FTF in the treasure hunt they had and had a great time as a family (5 yr. old daughter went too). We havn't really done any geocaching since then as we were moving and busy with things. Now we are started again and are excited to get into it (again).
  10. Ibiza, No we didn't get our prize yet, I think it will be in Sept. or Oct. I will go to Magellan and post that it is still there, good idea.
  11. I saw it and was in it. I was mentioned at the end and was also the ftf on the Magellan treasure hunt. A photographer met my wife, my daughter and myself at the location of the treasure and took a few pics for the Herald. Ths Sunday special edition that comes out on Saturday had the pic on the front page. The Magellan treasure was still there and still has 7 or 8 hat coupons still left.
  12. BronxBomber, I wsa ftf in the Magellan treasure hunt. I was logged in as fisninnut in Magellan but it was my wife and I though. There is an article in the Herald about geo-cashing in general and we were mentioned. I am new to cashing but plan to do this a lot. Here is a link to the article if I can figure it out. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/6498035.htm
