Now, I just hope the car mount works in my explorer.... Ordered a 2nd car mount yesterday - one for each vehicle. Got the one with the Temporary & Permanent adhesive pads. Bill
  2. That great news! I was just reading up on Detours as I will hit a lot of road construction on next trip. Bill
  3. quote:Originally posted by dzavetsky:Well, for those of you following my drama <grin> I just ordered a garmin V thru Amazon.com.... DZ I'm new at this too. Took my 2nd trip using the V. Returning I told it to use Shortest Route. Well, it had me taking a dirt road (was Shorter though). I kept going the way I usually do and it recomputed the next turn to get on that Short route. I didn't like it either so kept going (on a good road). It recomputed a 2nd time and told me to turn where I normally would have anyway...how do it know? Bill
  4. quote:Originally posted by dzavetsky:Have you used it "offroad" ? how is reception in cities?? 9My legend dies when I get to downtown pittsburgh)... Sorry, can't help on either question. Live in country and largest city within 60 miles has 35,000 population and no highrises. Two days with the unit so far and have not tried Offroad. Still reading the manual Bill
  5. quote:Originally posted by dzavetsky:Hey Bill... It sounds like you had a GPS before....which one?? Is the V better in the recption department?? Thanks in advance... DZ quote:Originally posted by Bill_Sumrall:Mine also arrived today! Took a short trip using City Select maps. Must say, "The thrill is back!" Bill No, this is my first GPSr unit. I had seen the operation of the "NeverLost" unit in rental cars and knew they ran around $2000. So I didn't expect too much from a $400 unit. But I am impressed with the V. Actually I can tell no difference in the computations, etc. of this unit to the NerverLost. Bill
  6. I just received my first GPSr today...the V, so I'm a novice. Not sure I follow when you say "no altimeter, no compass." It has "Elevation" and when you select "Off Road" it presents a compass face so you just follow the needle to get to waypoint. Don't know if that is what concerned you. Good luck on choosing... Bill

  8. Hello, all. Have read this forum past few days and decided upon the Garmin V Deluxe for 1st GPS receiver. Bought from online dealer for #399. A little pricey, but having checked eBay offerings, if I don't like it can probably make a few bucks via eBay auction!
