  1. Of course after I post all of this I find a workaround. For those that run into this problem here is how I fixed it(see instructions in forum post) http://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php/topic,2084.30.html I can now see the dropdown and all of the maps. It appears that the installer for the maps may be the issue.
  2. I have tried to find a resolution to this and am getting extremely frustrated, please assist. I have an older version of Mapsource V4 running on Vista 32 bit OS and I can download a TOPO map from gpsfiledepot.com and transfer to my GPS (Oregon 200). This was successful however what I actually wanted to do was run this from my newer/faster Dell running Windows 7 64bit OS. I tried the exact same procedure (see below) Download Basecamp Download Mapsource 6.16.3 Download TOPO map into the c:\ProgramFiles(x86)\garmin -- same process I did on Vista and it worked just fine. The issue seems to be that I now cannot see the dropdown for the map selection. Unlike on the Vista system the toolbar starts with the two + and - zoom buttons. I have looked to see if I can add it to the menu bar using View and Toolbar and Preferences...there is no option to make this appear. It should not be this difficult and I am wondering if this is an OS incompatibility issue. Any advise? I have done several reboots, add/remove, uninstall, changed install order, changed directories...etc and none of these seems to help.
  3. Stubby, This is the unit we have and yesterday just purchased an Oregon. If you are using your iPhone then you are probably doing true paperless caching. The 60Cx isn't designed to do that...it simply doesn't store enough data. Couple of thinks to keep in mind: The 60Cx has only base maps but if your kids are only using it once you get them close to where the cache area is it will do just fine. You can upload one cache at a time via the Geocaching.com website using the "Send to GPS" option or you can build pocket queries to bulk load using the Mapsource "Trip and Waypoint Manager" software from Garmin. Basically the process is: 1. Build PQ 2. Download file to your PC. 3. Extract .zip files to some location you know how to get to on your computer. 4. Go to Mapsource and open the PQ file 5. Choose "send to GPS" button at top DONE The 60Cx has a limit of 1000 waypoints. You can download more "street" level maps through http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ and load them to your device rather then purchasing the City Navigator. The 60Cx with more maps added will be a bit slow to refresh. It can tend to "bounce" around a bit which can lead to frustration....as long as you keep in mind where North is you can figure it out when it changes orientation on you. Overall it is a great unit and will do just fine. After your "GEO Sense " kicks in the nuances of this unit will not even be an issue. In fact we do paperless caching using just the limited amount of data that the .gpx files load into the unit. If we need to look at logs, cache details, pictures...etc then we use my Palm Treo Smartphone on an as needed basis. Let me know if you have more questions, we probably already ran into things that you will run into. Hope this helps.
  4. I think we have lost a couple of Coins....not TB...but still.....very sad....very very sad....so here comes the anger part of the grief process. So we emailed the cachers who picked them up last and still show they are in possesion of them.....no response....and its not like these people arent caching anymore - because uhm it shows they just logged in like last week. So yeah at least reply with 'We lost it' or 'We put it in a cache and dont remember' but dont just ignore me. Be a little respectful and answer my email. Denial....they cant be gone! Acceptance.....No big deal...they were just pieces of metal and not my son....its ok....I will mark them as lost and move on with my caching life, while they will always hold a spot in my heart. Goodbye.....Kansas Sunshine 2008 - KU National Championship Tribute Geocoin Goodbye.....Kansas Sunshine 2008 Geocoin Monkey Racer 2....Monkey Racer 1 will miss you...and will complete the race on his own.....Goodbye.....
  5. When caching in Oregon along the side of a coastal highway, we found a huge amount of deer and elk bones that were either from a common place where hunters process the carcasses or where some huge carnivorous animal lives....I think it was the former rather than the later....a bit eerie nonetheless.
