  1. In the future, you can get the Oregon to record the raw GPS altitudue by setting the altimeter to 'Fixed.' (I have a profile set up for it to make it more convenient.) Even so, it won't show the real time altitude in a displayed field, an old often requested feature that Garmin hasn't added. In real time, in a pressurized cabin, your only option is to view current altitude on the satellite page. If Garmin wanted to hear loud cheers from these forums ... they know what to do...
  2. Here's a partial work-around for that pesky pressurized flight problem: Under Setup/Altimeter/Barometer, make that setting "Fixed Elevation." The track you record will be the GPS elevation, although any 'Elevation' field you view will not show the correct AGL (Above Ground Level) elevation, EXCEPT the elevation shown on the satellite page is GPS based, not barometer adjusted. I set up separate profile for just such a thing to make it easier for me. When you get to your destination, though, you will probably have to manually calibrate the altimeter OR let it auto-calibrate itself over 10+ minutes. ... clear skys & tail winds to ya ...
  3. The eTrex H should do that. Based on your description of how you will use it, it sounds as though they will be writing down the coordinates rather than recording the location with the gps. I'm guessing they can do that just fine with the eTrex H and probably able to do it by just turning the unit off and on. If you want to record the location with the gps rather than writing it down, I would take one step up and get the Venture HC - that unit comes with a USB cable that enables communication with the computer. Yeah, I want to go to any automated process that connects to a hand held PC, but that may be down the road. Right now they go to the spot, drop the tank, take the GPS reading and write it down to enter into the system electronically later. Appreciate the help. I thought that was going to be a relatively easy, straight-forward request. Hope this isn't too late, but the Vista HCx has a 'Page Sequence' in the set-up page. You can add, remove and order the pages as you like. If you remove all the pages except the 'Satellite' page, you got it. You'd have to check the model you're thinking of buying to see if it has the same, I bet the cheaper model does the same. You can download the various manuals from Garmin.
  4. IbacusUS will not auto-route with the Vista HCx, you need the Garmin maps with that capability, such as City Navigator (kinda pricey but a lifetime update option is available). There are free topo maps for many states available, good for geocaching in the woods and just OK for urban hunts. Look to MiscJunk.org or GpsFileDepot.com as good starting points. Just some ideas...
  5. Garmin Legend HCx GPS $140 I am selling a refurbished Garmin Legend HCx GPS. It is in perfect working order, no scratches. I will throw in a 2GB microSD memory card with some maps to get you started. 2GB is enough to have the entire City Navigator v8 from Garmin. It auto-routes (with an appropriate map set) and will tone upcoming turns and other events. It has an incredible high-sensitivity antenna/receiver that gets signals in cities, canyon and forests, a bright color screen, uses two AA batteries, either alkaline, lithium or NiCad, and they last a long time. I have updated the software from the Garmin website for both the unit and the receiver (v2.80/2.80). History: I upgraded to another model and accidently ordered this refurbished one off eBay in early March - dang. It has the original box, paperwork and all the included items. They are selling on eBay for $160 and at Walmart for $188. Please text or call Bryan at 720-936-1712 or email me at bryan@alertrealty.net . I live near Berthoud and work in Longmont and might be able to meet you nearby if you want to make an appointment. If you are not in northern Colorado, perhaps we can talk about Paypal & shipping - I have a good track record as a buyer on eBay.
  6. Garmin Legend Cx handheld GPS $100 I am selling my recently refurbished Garmin Legend Cx GPS. It is in perfect working order. It has no scratches, I put a screen protector on it as soon as I got it. I will throw in a 2GB microSD memory card with some maps to get you started. It accepts up to a 2GB card – enough to have the entire City Navigator v8 from Garmin. It auto-routes (with an appropriate map set) and will tone upcoming turns and other events. It has been a great GPS, it has a bright color screen, uses two AA batteries, either alkaline, lithium or NiCad, and they last a long time. Waterproof – to a point. I have updated the software to v3.0 from the Garmin website. History: I upgraded to another model and don’t need this one anymore. My old Legend Cx was sent in to the factory about 5 months ago because the rubber around the unit was coming loose – and they sent me this refurbished one. They are selling on eBay starting at $115. I have the original box, documents and extra stuff it came with, except the 64MB memory card. Please text or call Bryan at 720-936-1712 or email me at bryan@alertrealty.net. I live near Berthoud and work in Longmont and might be able to meet you nearby if you want to make an appointment. If you are not in northern Colorado, perhaps we can talk about Paypal and shipping. 7. If you own a Garmin Mapsource product, even if without a tides feature, you can download a tide information product. I did this last year, so as long as things haven't changed, it might work for you too. I have even uploaded this mapset to a Legend CX and an iQue M5 and can get the points to calculate the tides on the unit! Somewhat interesting for my recent trip to Hawaii, although the tides are not much of a factor there. see: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_de...ct=010-00191-00 or http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_de...ct=010-00199-00 Look for the "Download Recommended MapSource US Tides Software" paragraph, a 5.13MB download. Proceed carefully, I have not had any problems, but Garmin may have changed something... Hope that helps...
  8. OK, I understand now. I may not be the best source for your problem, but I'll giver 'er a go. I just hooked up my Legend CX to nRoute successfully, so let's compare versions and settings. I may not have the most recent versions, though... The first thing to check is that the GPSr interface is set to "Garmin". Look under Setup/Interface. I'd bet this probably solves it. Next, look at your versions. Mine are: nRoute version: 2.7.6 Garmin USB driver: grmnusb: 2.2.1.0 Legend CX software: 2.80 So, my next advice, if still not working and if your versions are signifigantly older, would be to upgrade as necessary. There is nothing like a new versions to address Garmin problems. So, let us know if that helps at all and what suggestion worked or not. If not, please compare your settings and versions to mine. Good luck! WingNut182
  9. I don't quite understand the symptoms yet. Pardon some questioning: Can you describe your 'enroute software'? Is it a Garmin Mapsource that requires unlocking, like City Navigator? I assume that Mapsource is recognizing the unit but the detailed information is not displaying? If so, have you made the mapset active? Or, perhaps the mapset for your area did not get selected or transferred? WingNut182
  10. Yup, if you are using a Garmin GPSr, you can do it using the "Reposition Here" choice from the menu options on the waypoint details screen. On the Legend Cx, for instance, bring up the details of the waypoint of your choice, and then push the left side lower button to bring up several menu options, "Reposition Here" is the last one and the one you want. Other models may vary, but the ones I've seen should do something similar. Good luck...
  11. Thank you - and way cool. I've been kickin' it around a little bit and I like it lots. Plotted a couple of waypoints and found them to be spot on. I'm going to Utah next month and will get good use from it. I know that it saved lots of time and file sizes, but I think I kinda miss the intermittant streams, though. They are significant points of reference in the desert. But that's looking at the glass as half empty... Thanks, again...
