  1. quote:Originally posted by Eric O'Connor: Actually, I liked the story too but was wondering why they didn't give the troll a nickname... "Clan Ferguson" has a nice ring to it. Troll??? isn't that what they call someone on the internet thats just tring to goade someone else into reponding to things that the Troll just wants to argue about?? Cache On!! 2. Up load the image to the page. Go to the report page. Click on the link for the picture. Copy the URL Then add this tag to the cache description page. Of course that tag will put the clan Ferguson logo on your page so you should proabbly substite the stuff in quotes with the copied URL of your pic. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  3. Well said Markwell, But he forgot to mention what I consider very important: Not Found logs let owners now if there is a possibilty that the cache went missing!!!! Between maintence checks it's the only indication that our caches our still there. Thats how we discovered Double Diamond went missing. There is no shame in Not found I have 3 for the same cache on my list. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  4. Heading is were you are going. or the direction you are walking Bearing is where you should be going. or the direction from you to the cache. If you are walking West and the cache is south Your heading is 270 and your bearing is 180 Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  5. If you follow the logic of Allenlacy and point of trailtrek it it would take forever to hand count thoese 14000+ as I am number 14596 and thats from June 2001. So I think the 4000 comes from Active accounts. So I have replaced Registered with active. and also (sounding like a broken record) I am more intrested in what people THINK reality is more then what Reality is. I am testing the theroey (by observation) that Perception is reality Thank you for your time. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  6. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot: Why is this a Poll? It's hardly a matter of opinion. Just ask Jeremy how many subscribing members there are. If he chooses to divulge that information, you will have your answer. Because I am not necessarly intrerested in actual number(though those would be nice) but I am more curious as to what people think. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  7. Are you paying for a membership? I do! I have been reading the forums, particulaily the ones regarding Charter Membership. I have noticed an awful lot of people B----ing about the price tag. Or wanting more features, better service, premiums, toe waxings, etc, etc. According to the about page there are less then 4000 active users. and I greatly doubt they all have Charter Memberships. And if they did and they all paid the 30 I don't believe that would still be enough to cover annual operating cost (that includes manhours of programing and maintence). And I also relize that most of us who post on the Forums do have a charter membership. So my question is more of what do you think. What percentage of active Users are paying? And if the ground speak gang would like to chime in with actual numbers that would be great too. But I don't expect it. Cache On!! 8. What other organization do you subscribe to for $30 a year. that gives you stuff? that has less then 4000 members? and about only about half of them pay that $30? Don't get me wrong, a premeium would be nice but then again I don't think Jeremy is doing this for a living. so I greatly doubt there is much profit in geocaching.com that they can start giving away stickers, totebag, or mailing newsletter. 9. Adding anthoer type of cache is just more stuff to gunk up the works. it's a nice idea but I agree it couuld be done with just a little fore-thought at posting time. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  10. I agree that if sounds are short and backgrounds not to loud in there own right I guess it would be okay. But I disagree, not everyone has a broadband connection. (sorry but I still use dial up, broadband is still too expensive for checking e-mail and caches once or twice a week.)Sounds, excessive graphics, flash annimations are the main reasons I don't do much web surfing. 11. Okay I have place curosity polls before I have asked the question of What is Types of caches to you prefer hunting? How old are you? Where in the country are you from? Are you over/under 30 east/west of Mississippi? Well Now I would like to know what (if at all) attracts you to a cache? Me, in order: range from home, Type of cache, diffucilty. Name and hider don't matter as much in seeking as it does in determining the hiding spot. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson

  14. If it's about the hunt and not the end result and this is not a competive sport as we all keep saying, what difference does it make if it's true or not? If it's true, Dang I wish I had that kind of free time!!! if it's not, Dang I wish I had the free time to worring about what some other guy was doing to inflate his ego. Either way, I take Alfred E. Neuman's out look. "What - me worry?" Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  15. quote: Quoted from Geocaching.com FAQ What shouldn't be in a cache? Use your common sense in most cases. Explosives, ammo, drugs, and alcohol shouldn't be placed in a cache. Respect the local laws. All ages of people hide and seek caches, so use some thought before placing an item into a cache. Food items are ALWAYS a BAD IDEA. Animals have better noses than humans, and in some cases caches have been chewed through and destroyed because of food items in a cache. Please do not put food in a cache. I guess interpretation is in the eye of the reader. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  16. quote:Originally posted by mikechim: It is an interesting idea, the only problem I see with it is that it takes away from the uniqueness of those already leaving singature items. I disagree. I feel it would actually enhance the 'uniqueess' of Hand made sig items. as they would stick out alot more as the cards would become very common place. Besides an Item like this could end the 'I hate McToys' comments. I agree thqat it would detract from the Sigitem that is just something bought in mass (I do this now and is why I am looking for an alterntive) at least these items are unique to the buyer and not just to the cacher that was the first to start using them. quote:Originally posted by solohiker: Have you guys seen pictures posted by geocachers? We are not an attractive group. Who wants a box full of pictures of ugly people? It's not like I want to wall paper my bedroom with them. They just would have a little more meaning then a half empty bottle of new car smell, or a used light switch, or box full of religous pamphlets, animal chewed rain coat, giant paper clip, etc, etc. Cache On!! 18. quote:Originally posted by Eric O'Connor: If you've ever spent time in the desert during the summer, caching at night makes a lot of sense. Other then the heat thing, what other reason? Most critters that live in desert come out at night too. quote: Look at the time of the post, they found the cache at a reasonable hour which means that they started early. (10:49PM) Yeah but when they found it it was about hour to midnight. I don't consider that reasonalbe if they could be seen and heard from somone's house. Out here public parks and perserves are closed at Dusk, LONG before the time they would have found the cache and therefore would have been tresspassing. quote:I don't see what they did that has the people in this thread worked up. Nobody got worked up. They either were pointing something out. or stating an opinion. quote:I don't know these people at all, but as it stands I'd rather defend them than vilify needlessly. I'm betting dollars to doughnuts that you all owe them an apology. I don't know them either and I am betting neither does Weezer or ACME. But neither Weezer or ACME nor I said anything to insult them. Acme was just pointing out an intresting Story with a heading to grab your attention and the others were opinions based on the readings. So is this were we go round and round again, Eric?? Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson

  21. Besides the Obvious reasons(of course with the talk of getting lost while having a working GPS, maybe it isn't so obvious), When you get with in about 30 ft of your GPS's zero. It's better to take a bearing with a compas and notate what is in front of you then a few minutes later do the same and compare. this should give you a better idea of where the Cache hider's Zero really is. For us this works about 75% of the time. Cache On!! James "Big Dog" -Clan Ferguson
  22. I used the 'I'm Looking for geodetic survey marker' bit more then once when I had my GPS. Heck I even used once while I was just in a park playing with my GPS. After you given them enough infomation to make them feel more clueless then before they asked. They just look at you a moment, shrug thier shoulders then walk away. I've even took advantage of a Insect Trap placed by a local collage the last time I went to do a Maintence check on one of my caches. The trap is hanging about 100 ft from the cache so when some askes me what I doing I mention the trap then act surprised as I spot it over thier shoulder. they turn see the large notice attached to it and walk away.
