  1. when is a cache considered active ? I will look into geomate jr ! Thanks ! (expensive sollution)
  2. as a bonus, how do I update the availability status of so many caches in the few seconds we have internet somewhere ? Any and all help is greatly appreciated ! PS: sidestep: Sharing GPX's that emerge from PQ's is against GC policy. How about this? mrX creates a PQ, and sets the address of the recipient to MrZ's email ?
  3. Maybe somebody over here has a better idea than me? We are heading on vacation through Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, both Virginia's and Maryland. So I decided to create a "few" PQ's that cover our vacation. I filtered REGULAR caches, Small, Medium and Large, difficulty <3, Terrain <3: FLORIDA: 25-12-2000 - 02-05-2004 01 03-05-2004 - 18-05-2005 02 19-05-2005 - 12-02-2006 03 13-02-2006 - 08-08-2006 04 09-08-2006 - 14-01-2007 05 15-01-2007 - 27-04-2007 06 28-04-2007 - 18-09-2007 07 19-09-2007 - 03-01-2008 08 04-01-2008 - 11-03-2008 09 12-03-2008 - 05-06-2008 10 06-06-2008 - 29-09-2008 11 30-09-2008 - 01-12-2008 12 02-12-2008 - 22-01-2009 13 23-01-2009 - 14-03-2009 14 15-03-2009 - 24-05-2009 15 25-05-2009 - 14-08-2009 16 15-08-2009 - GEORGIA: 03-06-2000 - 29-04-2005 01 01-05-2005 - 13-08-2006 02 14-08-2006 - 20-09-2007 03 21-09-2007 - 13-06-2008 04 14-06-2008 - 11-01-2009 05 12-01-2009 - 20-06-2009 06 21-06-2009 - SOUTH CAROLINA: 28-04-2001 - 14-01-2007 01 18-01-2007 - 20-02-2008 02 21-02-2008 - 15-01-2009 03 16-01-2009 - NORTH CAROLINA: 00-00-0000 - 14-07-2004 01 15-07-2004 - 17-10-2005 02 18-10-2005 - 02-08-2006 03 03-08-2006 - 28-02-2007 04 01-03-2007 - 29-07-2007 05 30-07-2007 - 05-01-2008 06 06-01-2008 - 29-04-2008 07 30-04-2008 - 01-09-2008 08 02-09-2008 - 10-01-2009 09 11-01-2009 - 20-04-2009 10 21-04-2009 - Virginia's 00-00-0000 - 06-06-2004 01 07-06-2004 - 15-10-2005 02 16-10-2005 - 14-09-2006 03 15-09-2006 - 15-06-2007 04 19-06-2007 - 25-12-2007 05 26-12-2007 - 14-05-2008 06 15-05-2008 - 05-10-2008 07 06-10-2008 - 25-02-2009 08 26-02-2009 - 12-06-2009 09 13-06-2009 - Maryland 00-00-0000 - 12-01-2006 01 13-01-2006 - 01-05-2007 02 02-05-2007 - 08-09-2008 03 09-09-2008 - 10-09-2009 04 I end up with 48 (!!!) pocket queries. Plus one for DC. Now this is not too bad, I still have time to run 5 per day, but... I can only "store" 40 in the pocket querie page . I see no way to filter down to even less caches, so is there a trick to get a hold of the caches I would like to ?
  4. I came here looking for an answer on the first posters question We are heading out on vacation, and do not have mobile internet in Florida. So I downloaded part of the available caches through PQ's: 16 times 490 caches to be precise. Updating their status (available, unavailable, archived, ...) is going to take 4 days (5 PQ's per day with 16 PQ's...), so by the time I get aware of unavailable it might take 4 days. And I have already filtered out 75% of Florida caches, so I can not go below 16 PQ's (traditionals, small/reg/large, T and D under 2.5, available) So I am "forced" to run 16 PQ's that are heavy on the servers, just to get a hold of unavailability? Hm. I agree with the idea: if there was an option to just get a hold of the available/unavailabe/archived flags, it would greatly reduce pressure on the servers.
  5. We are aware of the size of the area, but we have 4 weeks of driving, and we have visited the "whole" area before, so I know what I am getting in to As for the regional sites: I decided to ask nationally, after getting no response from Floridacachers...
  6. Florida, Alabama, Carolina('s)... That general area. The GPS I carry works on any and all frequencies. As far as I know all speeds (GPSR, HDSPA, ...) should work. WIFI is always working, but I doubt if there are any "full coverage" wifi areas / hotspots in the US ? Thanks for replying !
  7. hello to all of you ! My wife and me will visit the south east regions in the US coming September, and I am looking for some info. Since you all probarbly already know the answers, I thought I'dd start asking here: -We would like to have internet available during our 4 week stay. Is there a provider that will sell us unlimited MOBILE (!)internet access for a month ? So, NOT a year subscription. Just for the month. Price is not (really) an issue. $100 for a month of unlimited access is accpetable. -We are lazy geocahers , so I am creating a pocket query on gc.com with REGULAR caches difficulty and terrain under 3.5. Those are "our type of caches". Looking at the amount I have already downloaded, I think we have enough caches with us like so but... Are there any geocaches you can think off, that we really really really really must do? We will be in an RV, so flexible as to where we go. Although from earlier expeditions, we prefer the panhandle area. (the've got trees ! ) -Does anybody maybe have a POI file for navigator software (tomtom / mia) lying around with WalMart locations ? For the overnight stays ? Or EXTREMELY cheap campsites ? Any and all help is greatly apriciated ! Salut, and maybe see you in September, Niels (novw)
  8. please, somebody remind me why I am so fortunate to actually pay for this <bleep> website ?Geez.
  9. time for swapping gpx files amongst users I guess. Lets see if Groundspeak gets as annoyed as we, when we are not keeping up our end of the bargain... Swapping PQ's is not allowed, so why is not delivering PQ's allowed ? I have created a PQ yesterday (10 hours ago), because I am in France, in an area I have no caches for. And indedd: stuck. No response, no PQ running. I have a word in mind. starts wit su, ends with cks.
  10. it does give me an idea of the scale of geocaching... Geepers ! Between May 14 and Jun 14 2008 in Germany there were 423 new cacahes (fulfilling my requirements) placed. Thats a HUGE job for the reviewers... -- I just tried, from the LOC files I can determin the province (Belgium) and filter accordingly, so a loc file for every country wouild not be a very bad idea I think.
  11. I have given up on Germany. I am at 15 PQ's, and not even finished, with just traditionals, under 3.5 difficulty and terrain. I am requesting caches placed between dates, still active and in Germany. This is madnes ! European phone service, so perfect ! But (!) at us$20 per Mb, a bit on the expensive side... GC does not know about bundeslander (states) in Germany , plus we want to be free to follow the sun, when any part of our trip is raining.
  12. maybe a better explanation: next october we are going on a tour through Germany, Switserland, (northern) Italy, France, Luxemburg, Belgium back home to Holland. We will go where the wind takes us so to speak. So, although I have a general plan I am unsure when or where we will go to. So my only option sems to be to take all caches in each country along... So queries it is going to be... Jikes...
  13. Is there a smart way to get a list of all (traditional) caches in a country ? Maybe a .loc file with those caches, so I can use GSAK to filter the ones I like (offline !) ? I understand I can use pocket queries for this: find traditional caches in (ex:) Germany, placed between jan-1-2000 and <whatever, as long as I stay under 500 "hits">. This would hammer the servers because I have to try the query till I hit 500, and than download iot, and than start with the new date, and than do it all again... For France and Belgium and Netherlands I can download a .loc file with what I want, from the local geocaching comunity. Is this available for other countries ? Maybe ? Please ?
  14. aha ! Victory. Sort of. To answer my own question, because it migyt be handy for others: on http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input?form=googleearth you can upload 3 seperate .kml files, and output one that contains the three. Not beautiful because you still need to do a route in EARTH instead of on MAPS, but hey ! It works.
  15. I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask, if not: please move or close the topic ? I want to go caching a long a route, so I created a route in google MAPS. Than I figured out I need to recreate the route in google EARTH. And this is where things go hickup. I want to go from A to B, through / via C. The fastest way from A to B is a straight line, so Google earth plots the route (duh) in a straight line. NOT passing C. And I can't for the liofe of me figure out how and where and if it is possible at all to re-route in google EARTH. Question: Can I do a via in Earth ? If not: can I make 2 routes (.kml) and link the 2 to make one large® route ? If not again: boohoo 1 sob ! Sob ! Cry !
  16. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...69-69c516f64be6 don't forget to look at the images !
  17. remark: decoding on windows mobile, using opera and/or explorer: not working.
  18. I stumbled upon this. It used to work: I select "hide and seek a cache", "search with google maps". I get the standard location Green Lake Park. When I now click a cache I get a popup with some cache details: Now on the right side, I type "amsterdam, the netherlands", to go to another part of the world. I click a cache. I see a litle black box "requesting cache desription" followed by a litle black box "parsing cache description", and hey... NO popup ? When I click on the actual name of the cache on the right side of the screen, I get nothing. When I open the link in a new window (or tab), I get the correct cache description page. This is frustrating ! I use this popup option a lot to filter cache sizes. In the popup I can instantly spot if we are talking nano / micro or any other size. I tried explorer (6.0.2900.2180) and firefox (2.0.0.14). Both refuse to popup. I did not change my popup options since yesterday ? And the strangest thing is that on green lake park it is working. Any suggestions by anybody ?

  20. ditto on this side. No matter where I try to log in, I am forwarded to the (general) error page. Help ?
  21. Thanks to a kind soul that PM 'ed me, I understand a bit more, now I can create my own lists. Problem remains however: how do I find other peoples lists ?
  22. Accidentaly I stumbled upon a "public bookmark list"( -> http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...e1-9144e441a42b ). I like the idea of sharing bookmark lists (very much !), but I can not find any page with a "list of lists" ? Does such a list excist ? Or is this one of those "stumble upon" -features ?
  23. thats a feauture... suppose you are on a flat-rate plan in your area, use gps tuner and move to another country / area. Personally I would be pretty p* off when my PDA automatically connects to the internet at that point...
  24. I copied this in notepad, and tried to enter it in different programms. All errored. I think the .gpx filetype can only show its power when multiple caches are available for testing. With multiple comments, and hints and the whole "chebang". Only than can the "newbie" see whats going on. And why he/she should pay up.
