  1. OK, before you judge me for this link... I searched google for one of these and found this. This isn't a web page I go to often http://www.americangirl.com/agmg/decoder/html/decoderframe.html I think someone should make something like this for an easy way to decrypt from the trail. Heck this would even make a good signature or trade item.

    The new maps

I like it... I'm pretty new to this, so if this was once a feature that you had to remove, I have nothing to compare it too. Here is my opinion the feature and where to utilize it. 1) I'm with the color-coded dots as apposed to the icons. The only exception IMO would be for new caches and events. 2) I would prefer to have buttons for zoom in/out. This will leave two options for map clicking and make it more user-friendly. 3) Filtering would be great! The easiest way would be to have checkboxes next to your legend. Simply check or uncheck. This leads into another feature I would LOVE to see... Home Areas From "My Cache Page" I would like to have some pre-defined points of interest. i.e. Home, Grandma's House, Mistress’s House. Each area would have a map, with all the local caches and descriptions below. BTW: Great job. It is nice to see an attitude toward continuous improvement.

Notify the heads of all the organizations named above and give them the coords. Does Kofi Annan own a GPSr? Would that be considered soft or hard money if one of the political parties was the first to retrieve the cache?
  4. I didn't... but I did have a moment of panic last weekend when I couldn't find a travel bug we picked up a few weeks earlier. First travel bug we got too, which would have made it even more embarrassing. What is the etiquette for letting someone else know? A person could (and probably should) purchase a new TB, but that certainly won't replace it's travels or make the folks who own the TB feel any better. Is the best solution to disable your ID, travel to your favorite cache and use it as a coffin?
  5. I asked Mapopolis.com if they were going to have topo maps available for their product because it would be great for GeoCaching. Come to find out they are working with several "GeoCaching Guys" and coming out with several tools. The first one, which can be downloaded here, will easily take a gpx file and convert it into maplets, marking off all the Caches in the GPX file. This is great! Note: I have posted this and the file with permission from mapopolis. They will have a page dedicated to these tools soon. Also Note: These folks at Mapopolis rock! Their support has been fanominal
  6. Well, he has made it to Madrid! http://www.caminodesantiago.blogspot.com
  7. We are pretty new to the sport and have only really stuffed our pockets and brought old school backpacks. But I've been thinking about getting something better. Actually, I was just thinking about one of those ergonomic jobbies that sling over one shoulder. We don't head out for more than 4 or 5 hours. Anybody with any exeprience with these? While we are on the topic, anybody use any lightweight packs for their dogs?
  8. Well, we did it. There is 4 of us who always go geocaching. The Wife, two kids and myself. Four of us all together. We are no longer HeavyEddie, we are 4agers (foragers). Wife came up with it. I thought it was pretty cool!

  10. This may be a little off topic, but thought it would be OK since GPS technology is involved. I'm also pretty proud of the old fart! My 67 year old father is leaving tomorrow to walk across Spain! He has his gps, a good hart and one hell of a will. He just beat his second round of cancer and figured he better do it now or never. I thought you folks may be interested in this because we will be using his GPS and tracking him daily on a blog. I wish I would have started geocaching earlier, because I'm sure I could have talked him into stopping at a couple caches and getting some folks travel bugs some real distance! Anyway, if your interested feel free to check out his blog and maybe say a little prayer. http://www.caminodesantiago.blogspot.com/
  11. Now that I think about it... I think the way to go would be to have a place to designate teams. Then when you log a cache simply check-off the team members that was with you. This way you could track team activity and individual activity. I will probably change the name though, the tough part will be to what? I don't want some lame team name. Maybe Team Geekswithatan?
  12. Geesh, that is just to easy. I'm afraid I'm guilty of just assuming this wasn't going to be possible instead of actually looking. Thanks
  13. I had no idea when I started Caching that it would turn out to be a family event. Which is a good thing. I would like to change my name to Team xxxx so it represents the whole family. Any way I can do this and not loose all my settings and information on caches that we have found?
