  1. Area cachers know that i've beaten them there when they see the honda with all the dents on it illegally parked on the curb and no visible parking pass. in the back seat is usually an inflatable kayak with paddles, life jacket, backpack that i'd be wearing if it weren't a 1/1, sleeping bag, buttload of mixtapes, and "the enigmatic cube of audrey hepburn." From the front seat, you can tell it's my car by the overflowing ashtray, jerry-rigged cd player, torn and wet cache sheets (of course), atlas of oregon and washington, empty cans of PBR, and the smell of spilled coffee emanating from inside. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed

  5. quote:Originally posted by makaio: btw - how long after one pays until the CM takes effect? My CM took just under 24 hours to go into effect, but PayPal charged my $60 instead of $30. I emailed them and then they took all $60 off, so i had a free CM for a couple days. Then, my statement said they had charged me $60 again. They've just straightened the whole thing out today. Oh, and i'm not 100% sure what a listserv is, but i think i get the gist of it and it sounds awesome. The NW forum is the one i always check first. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed
  6. I've only been to two geocacher meeting so far. This one involved doing a pre-event multi-cache to find a web site that gave you the coordinates of the event cache. There was also a day-of cache contest with prizes. And this one just had a bunch of sittin' around BSing and drinkin' microbrews. Both of them were fun in different ways. So no, there's no protocol. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed
  7. Luckily, my last day of school was yesterday. But now it's finals week and that means my paper on John Elliot Ford's 'Tis Pity She's a Whore is due soon. Love the title, hate the play. Stupid Jacobeans. But i am heading down to Top Score tonight for a few rounds of Dig Dug and more that a few rounds of IPA at the LowBrow Lounge. With most of the ex-girlfriends out of town on spring break, i'm a free boy. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed

  11. Is it okay to place caches on navigation satellites? Someone should call the EU's version of NASA and see if there's room for some tupperware on one of those things. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed

    Ummmm, Okay?

I was originally drawn to this cache because of its 5/5 rating. As far as i know, it's the only cache with this rating within 100 miles of my zipcode. But as i read the cache description, i realized that it was totally beyond my realm of knowledge. In fact, it all read like an alien language to me. But that's probably just because i'm not into surveying and cartography as much as i should be. But that got me thinking (and i was/am under the influence of too many long islands): Although it's a totally valid geocache, i think that the language used in the description makes it too inaccessible. I mean, i really want to find this cache because the beginning coordinates lead to the same street that i met ex-girlfriend Jill on. Not only that, but it's within 'my territory.' But since i can't email him with questions, i feel excluded somehow. what's a COGO? i don't know. my realm of experience is limited, to say the least. especially when it comes to stuff like this. Can you imagine what would happen if i placed a cache involving--i don't know--the bra sizes of my ex-girlfriends, for example? i guess what i'm saying is that caches should be available to everyone, even stupid people like me. I would never make people extrapolate Hamlet's motivations for soliloquizing about Yorick's skull without a REALLY good hint. I don't make anyone do a scansion on Sir Thomas Wyatt's 'Whoso List to Hunt' or anything. If i ever do any of that, please call me on it. I would be much more articulate, but there's a party here and they keep distracting me. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed [This message was edited by oregone on March 13, 2002 at 10:12 AM.]

  14. Rose City was messed up from the beginning because I screwed up on the math, sending people miles away from the final point. Plaid Pleated Cache was my first attempt at hiding one. It was totally messed up. I'm lucky to have had veteran cachers to help out! I don't plan on replacing Plaid Pleated, but I was thinking of doing a Rose City Redux cache. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed

  16. I think i know what you mean. My cache at the Mt. Angel Abbey has had a lot of visitors. Even though the cache hunt intself isn't very creative or that much fun, the area is incredible. It includes Oregon's most important building (architecturally speaking). I don't plan on archiving it anytime soon. But if someone came to me with a really cool cache idea for there, then i would totally archive mine and give someone else a chance. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed
  17. - A cache has had very few visitors. For whatever reason, the location, cache or both are unappealing based on the cache's web page. Archive it and let someone else find a slightly better location or get a better cache together. As long as you're not thinking of archiving Pechuck cache. I've already bought a new tent for that one. Now if only the snow above 3000 ft would melt. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed
  18. I am a portland-area geohogger, but explosis is worse. Sometimes, he'll even go to a cache twice in one night just to prove he's quicker than me. Oh, and the best crabcakes are at the Nehalem Dock restaurant in Nehalem, OR. But don't tell ANYONE. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed

  22. First of all, you spelled liscense wrong. That'll show you. Secondly, i think we should all have an informal mini-geocaching get-together tomorrow night at the barley mill for anyone that has travel bugs that need to go south. i'll be there at some point, i'm sure. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed
