  1. Thank you Trimbles Trek for the great lead! Ail got my one for easter and its fantastic! Used it at the OGA - CITO - Niagara event. Kept nice and hydrated all day.... If I had only remembered to put the rum and coke in it, instead of water I'm sure the day would have gone much quicker [] Thanks again Logger
  2. Ladycacher, We bought a kids orienteering kit from our friendly local Walmart, it had a fake GPSr and a compass. The neat thing is the GPSr had a working digital clock and timer. We gave it to a friend of ours young son. He had a great time with it because he became the official caching "timekeeper" So you might want to check this option out. I think the cost was about $12 US If I remember correctly it was in the kids toy section. Hope this helps, Good luck with your quest.. Happy caching! Logger
  3. Thought I would bump this one to the top to remind everyone of chat night tonight. Join in on the ear caching conversation. 9pm Eastern Wednesday. Here's the link: Chat Site Or if your a MIRC user heres the settings: www.wikked.us port 6667 channel: #geocaching Hope to see you there! Happy Caching! Logger
  4. Here Here! If you want change, you have to work for it ! Happy Caching! Logger
  5. Jeremy, The new page layout looks great although it will take a bit of getting used to. One thing I miss was the listing of "my hidden caches" being up front and foremost, now I have to make a conscious effort to find the link that will take me there since it doesnt jump out and scream your caches are here.... Also there is one error (I assume it is an error) that I found last night, we placed a new cache, came home and reported it as a new cache. When you check your cache list the new cache does not show up. I had to go to the old cache page in order to see it and edit the cache listing. Someone may have already reported this but I thought I would just mention it... Thanks for the good work! Logger
  6. Thanks for the help on the flag select help, but is there anyway to select a group of waypoints as you would with any other programs? Here's the scenario, currently I have been using Utopia to create CSV files for streets and trips. I would select all of the traditional caches using SHFT and click, once selected I would export it to a CSV. Clear that selection and do the same for multi then virtual and so on... Then I would load each of the CSV's into streets and trips with different colour pushpins so I can differentiate between cache types. With a database size of about 1500 waypoints it would take quite a while to mark out each of the items and create the filter... Other than this little setback I love GSAK !!
  7. PHEW! Feelin' much better now! Since no one else had mentioned it, I thought it might be me....
  8. All afternoon (Sunday March 21) I have been getting this strange error when trying to access the GC.com website. I can get to the home page no problem, but when I try to go to my cache page the following is the error I receive: Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. 9. A number of people have suggested this in the past, (including myself) but it seems a lot of people are against it. Who knows, maybe somewhere down the road.... Happy Caching! Logger
  10. This is good news BQ! Take it in baby steps. I'm sure we will have some good and bad outcomes with groups but it sure is nice to start off with a positive first contact. Happy Caching! Logger
  11. All in all, I would say that for a fledgling organization some great inroads have been made by the OGA to date. The framework of the organization has been established, the foundations of the website have been laid. Online discussions are being held regularly to help make the decisions. These discussions have been joined by a number of people from across the province. All are invited to attend to provide input. Of course, like others I would like to see it happen faster but I realize putting something together of this magnitude takes time. In order to gain experience in advising local groups on how to deal with matters you will at some point have to be involved in discussions at a local level. A surgeon can't give advice on an operation that he hinself has never performed. I would see what you are suggesting being the case once things are established and the group as a whole becomes more familiar with dealing in such matters. As I recall, when the topic of a Canada wide organizayion was brought up in the intial discussions, the idea was shot down as being too broad a scope for our inital start-up. Given time this may come to fruition. As Res2100 mentioned local volunteer leaders from each area have stepped up to the plate to take responsibility for their areas. There are still a number of areas open including Toronto. Might you be willing to take on the responsibility? Seems to me this is already happening I seem to recall a few OGA-CITO events planned for April 17. I believe these will be the first official OGA sanctioned events. Again, might be worthwhile to get involved. So far I haven't seen one OGA sanctioned event hosted at a bar or pub. These events were hosted by local cachers as event caches. These are great oppurtunities for cachers to meet each other and discuss the state of geocaching in general. If you still classify these as OGA meetings then you should look at the recently held Valentines Day event cache which was geared to cachers of all ages with different cache routes designed for kids, adults and neanderthals. But again that was an event cache hosted by P38manCdn and not a OGA event. Since the entire structure of the OGA is based purely on volunteer labour, things will obviously take much longer to get off the ground. From what I have seen to date, a lot of people have been involved in the creation of logos, website text, contacting other organizations, getting approvals etc. I feel that a fair amount has been accomplished since the official formation of the group less than 2 months ago. All I can say is lack of involvement breeds ignorance. To make things better one must get involved. Happy Caching! Logger
  12. This may be a stupid question, but how do I mark a group of caches in GSAK? Usually I would hold down the SHIFT key or use the CTRL key to mark them but that doesnt seem to work. Thanks in advance for any help... BTW I am test driving Beta 2 Happy caching! Logger
  13. Hey RJO might you be looking at a 60c or cs ? Hmmmmm ? Hope you have an understanding wife, otherwise I'm sure a few of us fine geocachers might be able to put you up for a few days... Happy Caching! Logger

    Snow

Honestly, I enjoy caching in the winter as much, if not more than in the summer. Think about it, no bugs, no mud, quiet trails, and caches normally rated a 2 easily become a 3. As for the cold, you just dress for the occasion. Try doing that in the summer and you get charged for indecent exposure Tried caching on skis this winter and loved it. Was able to do an island cache that is normally only accessible by boat. But not once in my winter caches did I come home covered in mud or mosquito bites. Of all the seasons spring has to be the worse. Went out last weekend came home covered in mud had to bath the dogs to get the 5 pounds or so of dirt off of them and the inside of my truck looks like the aftermath of a Friday night at the mud wrestling pits. Hmmm give me winter anytime. Bring it on! Happy Caching! Logger
  15. Thank you Mopar for your rather Blunt answer, FYI, I read the other posts but still feel it was a topic relevant for discussion. It would appear that most of the respondants of the other threads also would love to see this feature in one form or another, with a few others indifferent and a few against. The only plausible excuse for not having this feature that I could garner from previous posts was the idea that someone on the watchlist could be a plunderer of a cache. I don't think it is very likely since most caches seem to be plundered by chance. Those who feel their cache was plundered by another geocacher will likely point a finger with or without the help of knowing who is on the watchlist. (In all likelihood, they also feel they are being tracked by aliens or the secret service. ) I just see more positives than negatives to an added feature such as this. One suggestion would be making it a paying members only feature. This would give "added value" to having a paid membership. Happy Caching! Logger
  16. Glad to hear that you finally found Grand Trunk! It was hard without the snow, I'm sure it was a real treat to find covered by a foot or so of mother natures finest! Congrats! Happy Caching! Logger
  17. Why would you not want an owner to know that you are watching his cache? Unless you are planning a deep undercover covert operation I can't see any possible reason that a watcher wouldn't want his presence known. To me it would be flattering to know that someone was interested enough in my cache to "watch" it Happy caching! Logger
  18. I had a suggestion for an additional feature on the cache pages. When you visit your own cache pages it would be great to be able to find out who the watchers are. Sometimes I will see 7 people watching a cache and say, "Gee I wonder who is interested?" This could serve a very useful purpose especially for event caches. Say you post an event cache and want to know who is interested. It would be great to be able to create a list of users that would be interested in attending. I would think that a feature like this should be accessible to the cache owner only. Just a suggestion Happy Caching! Logger
  19. Not sure if this is related but for the last 10 minutes I have been getting "Service Unavailable" errors after getting numerous server overload errors. Hope you can straighten out the situation, and get back to some serious caching instead of chasing phantom server errors. Happy caching! Logger

Phern, All that I am saying is that as far as cache pages go, the online translators would give you enough information to complete a cache. No I would not want to carry on a heavy conversation with them. Cezanne, I have not seen any restrictions to language postings on GC.com I believe that you are free to post in your native tongue. In fact, if you look in the foreign country areas people post freely in a number of languages. Less talk, more caching Happy Caching! Logger

In all honesty, does this topic even make sense in this day and age? I mean, with all of the online translation pages available anyone can convert from one language type to another with reasonable accuracy. At least enough to get the basic information from a cache page. I don't think that GC.com should be responsible for converting cache pages into a different language when you can get a reasonable translation instantly. Just my .02 cents worth. Less talk, more caching! Happy Caching! Logger
  22. The logos look great TT! I'm not overly fond of the trillium but of the two I prefer the subdued trillium. The up front one makes it hard to read the name. Also the yellow on white will never reproduce on printed paper (grayscale) for letterhead. I would still love to see what the red maple leaf would look like. I think some red in the picture might be a nice touch. Most people outside of Canada (or inside of Canada for that matter) wont know what the trillium represents. While the red maple leaf is pretty well universally known. You have the outline of the province in there to represent Ontario, the trillium is sort of overkill. I was told once by a person who trekked across Europe, that they were told to put a red maple leaf or canadian flag on their backpacks and they would be treated better. (And less likely to be held-up or shot.) The compass rose does look out of place pointing out the true north direction, and I think it stood out more when it was darker. At first glance I thought it was a recycling symbol, so the idea of putting an "N" at the top of the rose might clarify its purpose. Just my two cents... Happy Caching! Logger
  23. I tried the IBM chips, didnt like them much. I think I will stick to Frito-Lays. Happy Caching! Logger
  24. Does anyone know if I can run Pocket streets (which came free with Streets & Trips 2004) on a Palm based OS? All of the literature seems to indicate it wants a Windows based pocket PC. Anyone able to help? Thanks Happy caching Logger
