  1. I had same issue, was a quick fix in my case. Double check your search filters and make sure you have 'all' selected- that you haven't eliminated caches you've already found from your search query.
  2. You could use this too- http://www.flash-gear.com/npuz/
  3. I think I'm placing this cache next week, going to check out a nice piney forest with little to no muggles. I wont have to worry about vines taking over the rig- nothing grows in this area except pine trees and fungus. I've got a hollow stone for the base and a small waterproof container for log, swag etc. I dont know what to call this cache- I'd like to dedicate it to a few cachers who always go the extra mile when creating their caches, ready to reach out to new cachers when they need a hand. Something along the lines of "Magic Makers"? or "The Magic of Caching"? I dunno....
  4. AHHHHH! These are all so inspiring!!!!!! That Techno Owl is straight up Art with a capital A. Regarding this thread- I went from getting notices of a new post to getting no notices since October?
  5. Made with mostly dollar store materials ( I had to buy a wreath ring at a craft store for 3 bucks) for about 14 bucks! I hid a micro in the pine needles and I'm going to gift it at a Geo-Holiday party.
  6. It held up well! It's still hanging in my garden from a tree- I've held off on placing it because I haven't found the right location or setup yet.
  7. Some animal trashed the first stage of my fart machine geocache so I made another with cement- sure to be 'toof proof'. Behold! The Butt Boulder! It's hollow and holds another container with the remote and final coordinates.
  8. Good points...maybe I'll keep them public through the weekend then and maybe include a note that the caches will only be public till Sunday night.
  9. Is there any policy, unspoken or otherwise, against making my Premium Member caches into free member caches for a day? I was thinking of making mine public for tomorrow's event and then changing back at the end of the day.
  10. I have this hanging in my yard now, near a few ponds. It's been a few days and other than sliding stones, there's been no issues. We're expecting severe weather in the next few days so this will be a great test run. I haven't switched out the fishing line for wire yet but probably will depending on how the next few days go. GLEEE! I hope this works out. I don't usually look forward to bad weather but in this case I'll make an exception.
  11. Monofilament- derp! Yes- the fishing line in the pic is well over 30 years old. I'll replace it with fishing wire which is a great idea! I don't know what that would look like but if I don't like the look of it, I could camo that with some light rope..it would give the appearance of tethered stones (and be clearly visible to clumsy cachers). I found this video a few months ago and thought what a great cache it would make but wasn't sure how he built the rig. I need to look up 'giant bobble head construction DIY' to get this right-
  12. I agree..durability could be an issue...the first issue being the paint on the foam stones. I used several coats of exterior grill/high heat paint on the fake stones...not sure how they will hold up over time in the woods & elements. I don't mind maintaining a bit (it gets me out) and exploring other materials. It's in Delaware so wherever it is, it's close by, and easy to maintain for me. I could use a hypertufa recipe for the stones maybe with perlite instead of peat moss or sand...really try to stay on the light side. I might have to get a heavier type of fishing line too. I could also paint the stones black with bits of red ( of which I also have a can of high heat aerosol for some reason) and build a fake campfire..maybe call it "Embers" or something along those lines. I dunno...a cool idea I want to explore and try to build a cache ( or caches) around. Do you really think a cacher could get caught up in this? I'm still somewhat new to caching and have had no problems other than several mugglings but I have heard tales from other cachers about ham fisted cachers busting containers up. Another newbie q- what do you mean by 'mono'? Styrofoam?
  13. I want to make a cache to honor a cacher in our area who always tries to bring magic to this game with his hides. I've been kicking around ideas and came up with floating stones suspended from a fishing line- one of those stones containing a micro with a logbook. The bottom stone is real, the next few stones could be free sliding so that a person could pose with those resting in their hands and the rest of the stones fixed in place, appearing to float into the air. I roughed out the idea yesterday in the garage and will be testing it for a few days in my yard. Here's the test hang in the garage...kinda blurry.
  14. Again, thank you all for the great responses. I nudged my existing cache about ten feet to another tree which frees up the new cache. New cache is flanked by my traditional cache and a mystery cache (owned by another) which I solved for, have coords, found, etc. Everything is looking good, no conflicts I can see. I had a geo-pal double check my coordinates, and I think it's going to be good to go. I'll triple check tonight and submit tomorrow.
  15. Thank you for the responses! Not putting the right coords didn't feel 'right' to me, so glad I asked here too. I should always come here first- when I first started hiding, an experienced cacher told me if I wasn't sure of the type of cache I had, to mark it as a mystery which I did the first time. I'm not sure if he misunderstood me or what but it caused some issues of course.Had I just come here...well none of that would've happened. Back to the topic- could I adjust the flanking cache of mine to make room? I have wiggle room with that cache to adjust, the other flanking cache is not mine. I'd like to keep this cache in this area- it's in a section of park called The Haunted Hollow and it ties in with the cache container.
  16. I'm trying to squeeze in between two caches and went from placing my cache 99ish feet too close to the other caches, then 50ish feet and am now down to about 8ft too close to one, which happens to be one of my caches. Is that acceptable? Will a reviewer call me on that? Could I adjust my published cache slightly by 8 feet to make room for this new one? I had another cacher suggest I just put in the correct coordinates and assume cachers would look beyond the 8 feet, but is that cool to do?
  17. Hypertufa stone troll heads over vitamin bottles. I can't wait to get these in the field!
  18. Not "evil" at all. You didn't find a cache. Caches at their most basic must have a log and a container. Approved by a reviewer at some point....counts as a cache in this area apparently. No love from me. Not something I'd do...
  19. I recently found a somewhat evil hide that was just a zip tie on a fance. You were instructed to bring a sharpie to sign. Most of the previous signatures had worn off so i wasn't sure at first we had actually found the log, until we phoned a friend.
  20. This is a great thread- valuable tips & advice- you can't beat that! I'm fairly new to geocaching too-welcome! I'm having mostly successful hides using google maps on my desktop mac. It's has been a huge help with the planning of a cache and double checking my coordinates. I use my desktop computer for this part as I have a dumb-phone....only good for calling a tow truck. In Google Maps plug-in the coordinates of surrounding caches and save those- they'll come up as stars on the map now. Now right click on one of the stars and you'll get a submenu with 'measure distance' as an option. Click that and it will start measuring from that point, then you can save a point on the map where it's safe to place a hide. Once you've saved your spot, plug them into your gps and off you go. I usually give myself some wiggle room of about 30 feet because my garmin GPS is a bit dumb too. Watch out for mystery caches that have hidden final coordinates..I ran into an overlap with two of those and had to solve in a hot hurry so that I could get my caches out there. I think it's really sweet you want to build an adventure in geocaching for your son. You rock!
  21. Easiest I can think of is Spray foam poo. All you need is a can of Great Stuff spray foam and some exterior paints. One can of this stuff can make a lot of cow pies or fake rocks. You carve out a little hole underneath for a micro w/log and you're good to go.
  22. Oh thats creepy as all get out!!! I looked at that church in google maps ( creepy there too) and all the wide open spaces begging caches. It's so saturated around my area..hard to find good spots. Heres the interment list for that cemetery if you're interested- http://findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=56193 Maybe a child's ghost was pranking you!
  23. I found this creepy Reddit thread about missing people in National & State parks and mysterious staircases in the middle of the woods. I'd love to make a geocache based on some of these stories. National Park Search & Rescue No Sleep stories *shivers*
  24. Fart Machine in outhouse/birdhouse cache. I managed to squeeze in the Geo logo in the crescent moon shape in the door.
