  1. Before nRoute, I was able to track real-time on my laptop using my Garmin GPS. I don't recall what software that was but it was Garmin. I know it wasn't a special download, I think it was just the MapSource product. At the time I was using the Mapsource WorldMap product. I don't care about routing capabilities, I just want to real-time track on my laptop while traveling. Does anyone know if nRoute has international capability? If not, can anyone suggest a product that does? Thanks Mark
  2. Please respect archaeological sites, both historic and prehistoric, and leave it to us, the professionals For those who don't know, the best place to find points (arrowheads as some of you call them) are in just plowed fields after a rainstorm while the sun is shining. Just make sure you get the property owner's permission. Most of them own guns and aren't afraid to show them. Just ask any archaeologist, it's happened at one time or another to most of us. Angry property owners, even when forced to let us on the land, usually walk out the back door with a shotgun...
  3. Hey Spelldog, Isn't your photo avatar copyrighted? I think I've seen that somewhere before
  4. Do you have a photo that better shows it in context?
  5. Since we are dog lovers the wife and I put in an amish-made 6' leather leash in a cache we hid yesterday as a FTF prize. Nice if you have a dog...
  6. My vehicle: 2004 Trailblazer 4x4, but it's almost time to get another . Not sure what I am getting next.... Photo taken Jan30th at the Beaver Pond #1 Cache

  8. I would like to see a sub-category for PLACES: RUINS: Prehistoric Preshistoric defined as without written record. EX: Stonehenge
  9. I use Mapsource. I have the WorldMap (192MB) and Roads and Recreation (548MB). I also have a Legend. Don't worry about the total size of the MapSource products, you choose which maps you download to your unit. You don't download the complete disk. If this is why you were asking about the size.
  10. In addition to GC I also use mine for work.
  11. This morning I needed to quickly convert UTM to Lat/Lon and didn't have my spreadsheet with me and I came up with this handy link: UTM to Lat/Lon Conversion I typed in my UTM Zone 16 E275800 N1940250 and presto... Maybe you knew about, maybe you didn't Don't you love the NET? EDIT: O.K., color me stupid. I never noticed the link under EVERY coordinate on the cache pages. Please disregard LOL

  18. We always take our two...although our big mutt (Bailey, on the left) we think just had a stroke and she has little use of her jaw. It hangs open :-( Off to the specialist tomorrow to find out what is wrong with the poor girl...I think she will still be up for caching though, she's quite the trooper
  19. What a kind offer for such a great item. Love the sticks... Well, I don't know that I "deserve" one but I can offer you something unique. I am an archaeologist gearing up for yet another long field season in a remote area of central Mongolia. We live in our tents, eat sheep purchased from the local nomads and crap in a hole for several months. I would love to have one of your great walking sticks to take with me. I would be happy to bring back some unique photos of the local nomads showing off your walking sticks during their daily duties. They still use wood-wheeled carts, herd goats and sheep, ride camels and round up wild horses, this all taking place daily all around us. That's what I humbly offer... Thanks for the consideration. Mark {ArchaeologyMan}

  21. That would get me started in what I want to do... I am guessing that TOPO! is restricted to the U.S. and maybe Canada, or can I generate maps like the one you posted from any location I am? Thanks, Mark
  22. Sorry, should have been more specific I am not very familiar with this so was not sure how to ask the question. I would like to take MapSource maps that I have uploaded from my etrex legend, with all the waypoints etc. and generate 3D maps for viewing. Similar to this: Click Here I'm quite sure there is more to it than an add-on to MapSource but if someone could get me started I would appreciate it. Thank you, Mark
  23. I tried one of those vent mounts in my Trailblazer LT and it didn't work. I bought one of the Garmin dash mounts and used double sided tape to mount it. Don't use the stuff that came with it, it didn't work well for me... Here is a pic of my setup...
  24. I currently use the Garmin MapSource world and USA maps with my Etrex Legend. I am looking for a (relatively inexpensive) 3D add-on for the MapSource products. Does anyone know of one available? Thanks Mark
