  1. Would it be okay to post other great logs that we have received on our caches? I had one just a couple of days ago. It was not a heart tugging one like yours but it made me smile thinking how the little boys would have felt... I am going to assume you don't mind and post the link... if you mind, my apologies. Hawk's Cliff "rescue"
  2. I read through the pages to see if this was address in another thread but could not find one. If I missed it and there is a thread somewhere else please feel free to direct me to it. Here is my question: When I "check all" to download caches to my GPSr and then click "Download Waypoints" all I get on my GPSr is the cache name and type, GC code, size, number of trackables and the difficulty/terrain rating. This is the "opening page" listing for each cache on my GPSr. It does not provide the cache description, the logs, the hint, or the trackables names (if there is any). If I do each cache one by one and "send to GPS" it loads all of the above information. I do this most of the time but occassionally want to send the whole page but can't because of the above problem. I use EasyGPS to send the info to my GPSr. I use a Garmin Colorado 300 (so that I can do paperless). Is there an option on EasyGPS that I am not seeing that will include ALL of the details on my GPSr or is there better software that I can use that will allow for all the information to be sent to my GPSr when I use the "check all" option. Thanks in advance... and I hope that makes sense.
  3. They are not tame to the best of my knowledge. But they have learned how to work a crowd. They are always there. Petting them is not wise. However, given this little girl's wish, maybe Someone was watching over her. Thanks for the reply Tequila. And I agree that the little girl's wish being granted is a wonderful thing... and would never begrudge her that... I just hope that she understands that not all wild animals will allow that kind of affection so that she does not get hurt in the future. I still think it is a wonderful post though!!!

    Send to GPS

I noticed that I was having a problem with "send to GPS" on August 1 and is still not working correctly as of tonight. It was working fine throughout the month of July when I used it while on holidays but was not when I went to add some caches for a day out on this past weekend. I have a Colorado 300 and have downloaded the Garmin updates but it still gives me this message "processing data to write...." before it sends it. And for each one that it sends it takes about 15 to 30 seconds which sounds fast but is extremely slow when you sit there staring at the window!
  5. This happened fairly close to when Raine told me he had fixed the problem. Before I write up the bug as not fixed I'd like to hear more reports. I logged 27 finds and 2 dnf's from a day of caching on Tuesday August 4 and the flash and date changed happened for every single log for me.
  6. Please don't use Google Earth to place a cache ... it is a notoriously inaccurate source of position data. I've seen it be out by 300 metres in some places I agree!!! When I look on Google Earth and view the caches that I have placed, the one in front of my own own ends up showing in the middle of the field beside me!
  7. It is a great log to read. I wish there were more great logs like that instead of the stupid "TFTC" ones. But I am a little concerned about the children petting wild animals... unless they were tamed. I see the cache is in the the Toronto Metro Zoo area so are they tamed?
  8. I think it is a great idea too. I have been noticing quite a few out-dated lists like this lately on cache pages.
  9. bump.... someone needs to ask a new question... it has been awhile!
  10. I would stay right where I am. Although the weather is not that great here at times and I would not miss the really cold winters but I am not much of a mover (only done so twice in my life). And where I am is pretty central in southernwestern Ontario so I am not far to do a road trip for a good day of caching. And not far to go to central Ontario at all. Now if I could do it without having to go to work then that would top it all!
  11. I can't help you with that answer but I with you on disliking Tim Horton's so the FTF prize of a tim card I leave for the next cacher. I don't understand the attraction to the terrible tasting coffee I would rather see a gold coin from either country I know a bit off topic but I had to say it...
  12. That sounds like a Canadian "loonie" the us has a gold dollar coin as well. I wasn't meaning that it was a Canadian Loonie... it just sounded a lot like one (which is also a popular FTF prize here. Tim Horton gift cards are another very popular FTF item too). I think it is cool that there is a dollar coin in the States too... I didn't know that.

  14. My favourites: - unactivated geocoins or geocaching pins - matchbox type mustangs or jeeps (I own both in real life and collected the die-cast versions) - a handmade bookmark dedicated to geocaching (I use it ALL of the time). It is made by a local to me cacher. - a handpainted rock... it has a raccoon painted on it and is very well done. I have it sitting on my desk. - other pins (my husband collects them) - and coins from other countries (my daughter collects those)
  15. Almost all cachers are willing to help but from the looks of things what you want is for us to plan it. And as suggested already, there are MANY threads throughout the forum categories that talk about events, with lots of suggestions on how to plan, host, entertain, publish, etc. It would be wise to read those threads, take the time to do the research. I took a look at your profile to see if you have ANY experience with events... what I found is that you have no experience with geocaching. You became a member on June 22/09 (that is only just over 2 weeks ago!), have not recorded any geocache finds, have not hidden any and have not even attended an event. My friendly suggestion... do some caching, attend some events, eventually hide a few. Experience geocaching first before considering to do a day event, let alone a "week long" event. You need to know it is like to be a geocacher! I held an event back in April/09 after geocaching for over a year and attending 2 events. It went well, was well attended and enjoyed but it was a lot of work that I don't think you are ready to do.
  16. I have never heard of the clay at Kilbear either. It has been a long time since I have been there! I will have to remember to check that out next time! Although I would not sit in it like the kids are We plan on going sometime soon. My guess for the next question would be the Grand River.
  17. Too bad it was not a day earlier, but the CB highlands Ecocaches will be out and waiting for people to find them , and of course you will be rewardded for your efforts. Maybe we will see you on the trails somewhere.. I will make note of the ecocaches and try to get them done while we are there! If plans change I will let you know! Hey Stagunner... I MIGHT be able to participate after all (maybe not fully but more than before) as we have a better idea of when we are going to be in the area. I think, if all goes to plan, we will be arriving at Cheticamp Campground on Wednesday the 15th. So I hope to be able to do at least some of the caches. Hopefully I will see you then!
  18. Most likely the ticks are just dog ticks which are not a carrier for Lyme disease. Deer ticks are this. Before you do anything with the ticks in a kleenex image google "dog tick" and "deer tick" to identify which one you have positively. As for the kleenexed ticks just toss them in a garbage. I don't think the Health Unit would test them. I would imagine that a wash in the machine would kill them and are small enough that they would get "washed" through the drain holes in the barrel.
  19. I think that I am going to do as Geek Boy suggested because I have come across a couple of other issues too. Caches that were listed and have not yet been found have disappeared from the list but were there the last time I turned the unit on. And caches that are suppose to be on the list, and are, but when going to the file not all the information shows up. When going "back" the unit automatically turns off. When I turn it back on again it resumes where it left off but the information details are still not there. And the cache has not been deleted my mistake. It somehow got a "bug" so I am going to reset it. Too many issues to try to work through :-) By the way... I an not using a Mac (I have Windows Vista). It is a Colorado 300. And I do have an SD card in it but it is empty. Thanks for the help!
  20. Could someone give me any suggestions on how to get rid of already deleted caches from my "to be found" list? I have deleted some caches via my laptop but when I turn the GPSr back on they still appear although I can not get the information for them. I have checked for the "recycle" bin as suggested in other threads but there is not one. I have tried reloading the deleted cache but it does load the information to the GPSr. It says it does but when I look at it through the GPSr there is no description and information is missing. I have not tried to reset everything back to the default. I wanted to see if anyone can offer me other suggestions. And does anyone know why this started to happen so that I can avoid it happening again? thanks in advance....

  22. My family and I are coming out east this summer and will be arriving in Cape Breton on July 18 - probably a bit late for this event unfortunately!
  23. HI Kirk! Good to "see" you! Landsharkz can be trusted! They are good at what they do. And like Cowboneck said, they were participating in GeoWoodstock in TN on May 23 so maybe your order was missed somehow. I know that that does not make the order get to you any quicker but they will look after the mix up. Just keep corresponding with them so that they are made aware of the missed order.
  24. I was wondering that too. Eelow was the one that had offered the suggestion and had not heard back from the rental place. I wonder if there has been a response yet. I will see if I can find out from Eelow. It was suggested a few weeks ago to post a note on the cache page, si I am going to do that today to see if anyone else can help us out. There may be someone(s) that is watching that page that has a boat(s) that would like to be part of this but does not not read the forum.
