  1. HI Stanleys! I am from near London Ontario. I would have replied earlier but have been without a computer for a bit of time. If you have not already been in contact with someone from London, please feel free to email me (begenuineme@hotmail.com) and I am sure I can find someone to connect with you. Thanks t4e for the promo for SWOG
  2. Aaah-ha... I now know what I am going to buy with my CTB gift certificate!!!
  3. It would be a great idea! There was an event held last year that had cachers coming out to the local curling club. I didn't go, it was too far away for me, but I know some that did and had a wonderful time. I think you should go ahead. You will probably be surprised at how many will post a "will attend". Cachers are very social and would love to get together where ever it is!
  4. I got a virtual, traditional, and an earthcache on July 1!
  5. I agree with all the anti-banner comments.... get rid of it!
  6. I agree... bring it back. This was the only reason I used the Friend's List. And I know that there are different ways to see the same information but extra steps and not all the friends would be shown on one page. No point now in having this feature. I didn't care about the "hides"!
  7. I looked into that, but I'm not old enough to go into a bar... The fact that it is held in a tavern is not an issue, the event is open to all ages.
  8. I am also working on the challenge... On Easter I did an earthcache and a traditional. On May 24 I did an earthcache, traditional and a mult =] July 1 I am going to try to do something I usually don't like a Wherigo or a letterbox.
  9. Just wanted to say that Alliston is only about 20km away from Tiffen... so about a 20/25 minute drive.
  10. I use my real name (well first name and last initial). When setting up my account when I joined I decided to do that so that people who had not met me in the geocaching world may know who I am if they have met me outside of geocaching. (I hope that makes sense.) It actually happened the other day when someone I knew from a volunteer group I used to chair emailed me and said "Hey! I know you! You're Brenda." It was kind of neat. They are new to caching and loved knowing that someone else they know is also playing too. I have had no negative issues with my real name being used at all.
  11. Congrats! My family and I did the 2009 trail and earned the very cool wooden geocoin. We were two away from getting the 2008 one as well but the weather interfered big time! And then we had to leave to come back home to Ontario! It is a very deserving award! Congrats again! (now to get the National Parks in Ontario to see what can be done maybe we can get Ontario Parks to jump aboard too!)
  12. Those previously mentioned CREW events still happen. There is one scheduled for June 22 GC27N4F. They are a great time (unfortuantely I can't go this time).
  13. I love to do the urban ex thing too... although I am alwasy afraid that a cop is going to come along and I am going to get charged with trespassing! I also love ghost towns and the history of the location. This is a good website to visit: www.ontarioabandonedplaces.com I have not found these caches yet but they are on my "to-do" list if I am in the area. I have gathered them from my own searching or from other posts in the forums. GCQ820 Ghost Town Josephine GCVXHY Ghost Town McKinnon GCQ9VJ The Ghost Town of Depot Harbour GC13NH1 Have a Seat .2 (is a c&g but it is in a ghost town) GCP339 Forgotten Village GCGK5K The French River Rainbow (The French River village that had a huge turn-of-the-century limber trade and disappeared. There is lots written about the area. Some ghost town area of the French River is only accessible by boat.) GC7E54 Geocache (has only had 3 finds since August 7, 2002 because of the remoteness of it) (Is also in the French River) GCVTDG Newfoundout GCVBER Foymount GC1AK0K Olinda Cemetery (although not listed on the cache page, this area is listed in Ron Brown's book "Ghost Towns of Ontario") GCKZ40 Ghost Towns GCPQTQ The Cheltenham Brick Works

    Costco

They've got them at Mississauga too. A few BFL Crew members have picked some up and they seem to hold up well on our outings. I bought a pair (18.99) in London after NP told us about them... I have been using them for about a month now. They work great!
  15. If you wait a second (or a minute), it will let you back in. If you keep opening pages you can get locked out for a while longer than that. GreaseMonkey scripts can hit the site too fast. shift-clicking on links to open tabs can also do it. We'll tweak throttling a bit to see if it clears up for most users and also block those bots who are hitting the site too fast. It took an hour before it would let me in and I waited quite a long time before I tried again! More than "a second (or a minute)"!!! It is definitely something that needs to be fixed. I should not have been blocked out at all. All I was doing is switching between a trackable retrieval and logging the find on the cache that the trackable came from. Nothing high speed here!!!!! I live in the middle of nowhere! I don't use Firefox, I don't have GreaseMonkey, I don't have anything like any of those. I don't haven anything different than I did when I started frequenting gc.com!! I use IE (it is completely uptodate), run with Windows Vista and am not a techie so I have no idea how to run anything else but. I pay to use this site and expect to not be insulted by some message that I originally thought was a bug on my computer. If things don't change back to the way they used to be where I am not afraid of clicking between tasks or using the map feature, I will wonder if paying $30 (plus exchange) is worth my time and frustration!
  16. I just got this message for the first time tonight. I have nothing running extra on my computer, am doing everything the same as I usually do but because I switched between logging a trackable to logging a find on a cache that I found that trackable in, I got the lovely screen and have been kept out for longer than I am patient enough to wait for. I pay a premium membership fee and am not doing anything "illegal" and am annoyed that I can not finish logging today's finds, my coin drops or load the caches that I am going to look for tomorrow morning! NOT PLEASED! Edit Come back 10 minutes later and I still am not allowed to log my finds! Still not pleased... I did not do anything wrong. Further Edit.... almost 45 minutes later I am still not allowed in! And as I have already said I am not using "an automated tool" to do anything. It seems that security by gc.com has been increased too much that it is hindering the paid subscribers! I am still NOT PLEASED that I am not able to do my trackable drops, find logs or download what I am going to seek tomorrow! I certainly hope that something is going to be done about this!
  17. HI Ken... I am not from Fergus but I live fairly close, near Woodstock. I know lots of cachers in the KW area and might be able to help find someone from Fergus. If you are interested please email me directly begenuineme@hotmail.com because I don't check the forums on a regular basis.
  18. That is a cool goal! For me that would take forever since I started in Feb 2008! My goal is to complete the Cache A Day Challenge starting with January GCZZTT! Plus the other challenges I have been working on as well.
  19. To repeat what I already posted in case it was missed... please contact me directly (begenuineme@hotmail.com) if you are interested in going. I do not have a date yet but it will not be until the warmer months so that we can enjoy the day out; and I have no idea of cost yet; but I do know that most spots are taken! Thanks for all of the interest!
  20. I will contact you seperately tomorrow Hiker! I can continue to try to organize this with your assistance. I had tried to get something going last year but nothing ever happened! What a difference a year makes. Thanks for doing all that! I contacted HikerT already... just thought I would update that I also already have a list of a few people that are interested in going. If you are interested please let me know via email (begenuineme@hotmail.com) and I will see what I can organize. Of course, if you go you have to help pay for the cost of the day.
  21. Would sure make an interesting GHMGC meetup .... I will contact you seperately tomorrow Hiker! I can continue to try to organize this with your assistance. I had tried to get something going last year but nothing ever happened! What a difference a year makes. Thanks for doing all that!
  22. Eeek. Wikipedia says that's a 40km swim. You'll make the newspaper for that swim! (Also pretty dangerous currents at the point I believe) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Point,_Ontario yep.... it is not advised to swim it at all... the currents there are unpredictable and can change at any moment. And walking it if it froze would be a great idea... but it is too far. I will keep it in mind that you want to go, res!
  23. Thanks hikerT! Much appreciated. I don't see it being too big of a group... and can be limited to what it needs to be. Thanks again!
  24. Thanks for reviving the thread Swamper! I am still interested in getting out to the piont so if someone can come up with an inexpensive alternative that would be great!!!
  25. There is lots of information in the gc.com forums... use the search option and search "event". Lots of good tips come up from other posts that have been added over the months and years. It is good reading and probably will answer many questions. I did this when I hosted my first event and found lots of good information! It is great that you are in interested in hosting an event. There is never enough of them! Ohh... and if you have any other specific questions that you need answering please feel free to email me directly. I have only planned and hosted two but have been to lots. I am willing to help out electronically []. I just don't come on here at a regular basis so might miss your questions.
