  1. Just a reminder about the next SWOG Workshop that is coming up... GC2FYXN SWOG Geocaching Workshop Sunday, November 28 1:00 to 4:00pm Included on the agenda is "GSAK - Understanding the Basics and How to Use It"
  2. You could do a pocket query for caches that have the attributes of requiring a flashlight, recommended at night, or is a night cache. Unfortunately not all Cache Owners list attributes when they have a cache page published. Personally, I search for any caches at night... except the ones that are in areas that are "closed" at night. With a good flashlight pretty much any cache is findable at night.
  3. NP... I think that I can speak for all of the BFL Crew in saying THANK YOU to you too. Without your imagination, organizing skills and commitment to making this a top notch event, it would not be the same. As a newbie to the BFL event organizing, I enjoyed it very much and loved the time that Andrew and I spent with the Crew that night! I am looking forward to helping out even more next year! Thanks again NP!
  4. Good idea! Coming Soon! SWOG's 1st Anniversary Event Sunday, November 7 11am to 4pm SWOG Geocaching Workshop Sunday, November 28 1:00 to 4:00pm Included on the agenda is "GSAK - Understanding the Basics and How to Use It"
  5. Agreed, but as already suggested... post a "needs archive" on those caches. What I find most annoying is when those same people with the many disabled caches also continue to put out many new ones! They can't maintain the ones they have so why do more... I would call that littering!
  6. Yeah, no kidding. This has become the norm unfortunately!
  7. I pick up trackables all the time and try to move them along as quick as possible. There is nothing that says you have to place the trackable in a cache you have not found yet. I use a cache that is just down the road from my place. I found and logged it back when I first started caching. I drive by it almost every day and use it to drop off trackables if I am not going to be caching within the next few days.
  8. Putting everything in individual baggies would be creating alot of plastic waste, IMO. Something that a lot of cachers do here is place everything inside a bigger zipper baggie to protect the swag and log book from the elements. This would be one bag as opposed to many little bags. My added suggestion would to encourage cachers to use containers that have a seal that will keep out the moisture and not create the situation to begin with.
  9. YES! I agree very much... there is nothing worse than having completed the first 3 of a 5 stage multi (for example) and then finding stage 4 is not rain-proof and there is no way to read the coordinates for the final stage!!!!
  10. I do it too although not as often as you. I love reading about other geocachers experiences, especially if the cache was a challenge to find or get too! I enjoy looking at the pictures that people post as well. I also like to do the same for caches I haven't found yet. Especially the ones on my "want to do" list.
  11. I am not a big fan of multis but if the multi is a good one where the stages lead me to interesting places or sights, or has a bit of a challenge to find or figure out the next stage, etc I will do it. I dislike the multis that lead you to a location that just redirects you to finding a film cannister hanging in the tree, that redirects you to another film cannister, etc. Those are IMO a waste of time. Especially if it is just leading you from one end of the park to another and back again with nothing interesting to do or see. Not fun! I agree that if is always nice to have an idea how many stages there is. I don't care if I know exactly because the element of surprise is good but if it will take more than an hour or is it a quick redirect to the final. That way I know how much time I need to have to allow to find the final.
  12. Good because most likely the offender won't! Thanks for doing that! Someone needs too.
  13. I did find that page once by accident but found fairly quickly that what I found good or funny did not match what others thought was .... (you get the idea). I think it was originally tied in with the 10 year celebration. The main thing it does it put a silly big black banner on the top of all the logs on the cache pages for which you have to employ a FF script to get rid of. You are right, it showed up on pages with the 10 year celebration. I dislike the black banner too and do not participate in the nominating. I could make more uncomplimentary comments about the stupid banner but that would be a whole different discussion that has been flogged many times over!
  14. i don't buy the "they didn't know they took it" look at my post above you, clearly indicates they saved jholly's avatar and changed the "like" to "love" the thing is in forums an avatar makes someone easily recognizable, of course if they don't change it as often as their underwear, so with a glance at the avatar you know who the poster is Okay... I never bothered to check into like that so strike that possibility but I still stand by the other points I stated.
  15. I agree... and mentioned it in my above post too.
  16. I wouldn't worry about it considering that the character being used is not the creation of either of the current users. I would be more worried about using the character as "mine" and getting in trouble with violation of copywrite laws from the actual owners of the character. Besides there are so many other things in this life to worry about, if that was the worst thing then life would be good! One last note, I would also not bring it up on a public forum without at least trying to find out why they "took" the avatar. As other posters have commented, they may not know that they did. Or they are not aware that this was something that you frowned upon. I would give them the benefit of the doubt until there is real reason of possibly pubicly embarassing them (although I wouldn't do this either... publicly embarass them, that is).
  17. who's? Their own! I had to check for my own avatar... sometimes I shake my head at myself... i can't tell if you're kidding or not why would you check your profile to see your avatar when its right here in the forums unless you disabled avatar viewing in your board settings Sorry, can't explain myself any further. No, I'm not kidding, yes, I'm just that odd sometimes. Don't worry Guns & Cockpits... I understand what you are trying to say. Until you posted that first response to this thread you would not have seen your avatar. If you are not a frequent poster or just don't pay attention to that little picture over there <----- you may not remember what the avatar is.
  18. I did a night cache like that too... although this one had the lego pieces attached to the trees using screws!! Bad plan Knight, If you are going to use this idea, please attach the blocks to the tree in a different manner.
  19. T - paperclip to use to shove that darn log outta the nano at the last cache ('cause I forgot to grab my backpack on the way out the door... where my log extraction tool is kept)! L - individual serving of coffee grounds, package seal is broken
  20. I just placed my order and am looking forward to reading it too!
  21. Any town, any where, will have "gross" areas so what would be the point in posting pictures like that? The point would be that I'm kidding. Hard to tell that you are kidding when there is nothing to indicate you are.
  22. Aaah-ha... I now know what I am going to buy with my CTB gift certificate!!! I will send you a note when they arrive. lol That would be great! Thanks!
  23. Any town, any where, will have "gross" areas so what would be the point in posting pictures like that?
  24. I hope your daughter is doing okay and is not afraid to go our caching again! I just wanted to add that Wherigos are also for adults too! Unless you meant that it was a Wherigo that was directed toward kids then never mind Welcome to caching!
  25. I will wonder "where I go" to find a cache!? I know that was lame but I did a Wherigo for Labour Day!
