  1. Knight2000, That screen shot you showed, is that a region of Mapsend Topo? If so, what kind of detail does it show if you zoomed in as close as you can? Just topo lines, or more street detail too? My Explorist 400 came with a CD that is labeled "Mapsend" but when you load it to the PC you get what is called "Mapsend Lite" and a file manager program. This has a grid of the US and the only detail are some pinpoints of major cities. There are no topo lines or roads. I can load POI's and I think other stuff, but don't know for sure. I'd like to see what kind of detail comes with the Mapsend Topo, if you care to post a pic or two. Thanks.
  2. Knight2000, you said: " It seems to me that a 2gb card would hold a lot of info. I cant really imagine needing more than that." You mention the 2GB being plenty. I don't have any of the Topo or detailed street maps from Magellan, yet. Just the basic baground map that comes on the unit. Would 2GB hold all the maps that Magellan sells if I were to eventually buy them?
  3. Hello, Nice forum. This is my first post here. I just recently got interested in GPS units for outdoor stuff. Bought a really old Magellan 2000 for cheap a month ago. It was enough to get me hooked. Last week I bought a "new in box" Magellan Explorist 400 online. It is NIB but a discontinued model from Magellan. The difference in this new one and the old 2000 is like night and day as far as sensitivity and memory. I really like my upgrade. It is suposed to take SD cards to expand the onboard memory, so purchased maps/topos can be added later. The manufacturer's book says the SD slot can handle "unlimitted" sizes. Magellan's website says they've only tested the units with 2GB SD cards. I'm not really a puter-geek, so this stuff gets foggy for me....... When I went online, I noticed that there are "standard", "mini", super-duper "mini's, regular SD's and SDHD's, 2, 4 and even 8GB cards out there for less than $30. What I'd really like to know is have any of you tried anything above a standard-sized 2GB SD card in your Explorist's. If so, I'd apreciate the feedback. Thanks.
