  1. This one will keep you stumbling around in the dark for awhile.
  2. Didn't you forget about the one forums poster that insists permission be asked?
  3. In the future, please refer to locationless caches "geospotting" as there is no physical cache at the end of the hunt.
  4. This thread also wouldn't be complete without a tribute to Joedohn...
  5. Oh yeah, I'd have to cast my vote for these Wonders of Nature. Just a teaser to what is one of many...
  6. That's a good technique also, thanks for mentioning it.
  7. I have done this numerous times when creating "tagged" multi-caches where the tag is located on the trunk of a heavily foliaged tree. But, a projection really is not necessary. Instead, I take the averaged reading about twenty feet from the trunk on a line directly north or south of the trunk and then add .001 to the latitude for each 4-5 feet of distance (this varies depending on your location in the U.S.) I have offset the reading. As for units that don't project waypoints less than .01 miles, a good trick is to use a "reverse GOTO", where you mark the location you are standing at, and then walk the direction you need to head using a reciprocal bearing until you have traveled the desired distance in feet.
  8. I Like the buffalo thing, but maybe you should explain what "The Brownies" mean! Making different denominations is a neat idea too.
  9. I just happened to be off work today. So it was a great excuse to play around in Illustrator and Photoshop. Your profile said you liked artwork and particularly Rodin. Maybe there is a favorite saying you could add to the top of the front? You could also substitute a family picture for the GC logo on the back. This type of design would work similar to the ones I designed for The Weasel... Printing the design yourself on clear adhesive labels and cutting to fit the wooden blank, or you could look into some custom printing through a company that makes the wooden nickels.
  10. Yep, one of my favorites too, but I think the leaks are getting worse!
  11. Yep, gotta cast a vote for Lock'nLock containers. The secret is the silicone gasket in the lid as well as the ability to lock it shut on all four sides. Official Site More Lock'n Lock Info Lock'n Lock at Target
  12. This cache seems to have skirted some guidelines by being misidentified.
  13. This very unique trail leads to a cache:
  14. EGH, the Headwall Cache is great this time of year with all the small waterfalls running over the cliffs, and it's much easier to do battle with the Devils Club. Pepper, even though you may not have a way to track numbered coins, having individually numbered coins does add a little something to the uniqueness of them. Don't know what extra costs are involved. Here is a slight redesign of the back and a space for numbering: Your wish is my command.
  15. OK, Pepper. With the info you gave me in the email concerning color on one side only and your preference for the front with just the names and another circle, I came up with this: I could probably change the shape of the mountain a little, but it probably needs to stay within the boundaries of the circle. I think the hiker walking uphill might be more visually telling than some switchbacks, especially if you are not going with color on the back. Open for any comments.
  16. Here is what you quoted would look like: Because of the circular "no sign" for the back, you are going to be limited to the outside circle for any lettering on that side. So you only have a small area on the bottom for any additional wording.
  17. I would tend to agree. You could put "Pepper" at the bottom and have "Official Geocoin" in a little smaller print in the midle.
  18. One thing you need to do is find out how many colors are allowed for the coin and how it is to be stamped and how much relief is set in. Remember, the coin is much smaller than these images, so you want to be sure the detail will show on the final coin. I came up with this for the back before I saw your post: Your sig line will take a good portion of the outside circle. I don't think "www.geocachig.com" would fit on the bottom unless it was real small. Wasn't sure if you were going to number them either.

  20. How about something like this for the front. I would think you would want to identify it as a geocoin. Not sure if you want to include parts of the geocaching logo. Sounds like the back may not have room for the "geocoin" designation. Having two threads on this is going to get confusing. You might want to close one of them.

  22. Congrat... Oh wait, I thought you meant 1,000th cache! Oh well, congratulations anyway.
  23. NAVDOG!! DUCK!! Whew. That joke just missed you. Don't worry though... it went over your head. No, I thought my comment was the joke.
  24. I agree. If the hider can't make the effort to at least leave me a logbook to find, I suppose I will get some "Wow" for my effort.
