  1. Item can now be seen on Ebay: EBAY
  2. I have a 60CSX for sale that has been well taken care of running software 3.60. I bought it a year ago and basically used it once or twice. It comes with the original box and paperwork, Trip & Waypoint Manager CD an USB cable, the 64mb microsd card and a Glisson neoprene cover. Unit operates fine I just don't use it as much as I thought I would. Happy to send photos upon request. Prefer payment is Paypal or cashier check. Shipping is usually by Fedex ground with tracking within continental US only. Asking $250 plus S/H cost. Item will be posted to Ebay next week if not sold.
  3. I'm confusing myself on how this should work. To hike a certain trail /route I have: 1. Created waypoints and a route using NatGeo Topo named "Mntn Pass View" 2. Export to 60csx both waypoints and route 3. On 60csx, open routes and should see "Mntn Pass View" 4. Select it and the 60csx should navigate me from waypoint to waypont thru entire route (hike) Is this correct? On mapping a trail ... not sure 'bout how to do this? 1. Do I pre-select 'something' to establish the beginning or just mark a waypont. 2. I know I can mark waypoints at anytime thru out the hike and the unit is also establishing track but do I 3. End the hike and save the whole thing as a trial/route/etc to dump back into Topo. Sorry if this is easy, read the manual and not getting it. Thanks!
  4. Should I be able to transfer (both ways) waypoints and routes between Colorado 400t and NatGeo Topo software? Running a iMac and haven't been able to transfer from iMac to 400t yet.
  5. Screen shot? Does data stored on the computer only happen when you load the waypoints/tracks software which is PC compatible? Of course, I run on a iMac.
  6. Thanks Red90, Kinda thought so and from playing around figured how to turn them off. What threw me was the amount of "movement" being displayed. That is the track log. The GPS signal avries somewhat and so the unit thinks it is moving around. If you don't wnat them, go into "tracks" in the setup menu and turn "show on map" off.
  7. Thanks Pat! Need to understand how to use this puppy! Congratulations! For not only the new purchase, but also for your first geocaching GPS unit and your excellent attitude. Something tells me you have a winning combination here. There is also something to be said about a person who is willing to ride the first technological wave of a product. This isn't your father's GPSmap 60! I initially had difficulty with the Rock n' Roller, figuring out why I was always turning it the wrong way. Its quite intuitive as what needs to be done, but getting the brain wrapped around that in and automatic sense took some time. I tried switching hands at first, thinking that the brain would be fooled twice and I would get the results that I need. Somehow, and without warning, the proper internal wiring was made and I no longer have any issues with finding the proper shortcut that I need. Good luck with your geocaching and your bright, shiny new toy ... tool ... caching partner. I don't think you'll ever regret your decision. - Pat
  8. Thanks! So far so good.....but it's been 2 hours!
  9. Ok, as you can see from another post I'm new to hiking / geocaching gps and Colorado 400t. I'm looking at the map of my location and zoom down below 100ft and see what looks like scribbly lines all around the direction arrow. As I zoom in farther they become more pronounced, like a child took a pen and scribbled all over the map. I'm thinking these are some type of tracking marks??? But the unit has barely moved since it has been turned on, like moved 10ft? So what are they and can I clear them from the screen?
  10. Well ...... After much research, reading both good and bad reviews, I jumped in and bought the 400t from REI. This is my first gps for hiking / geocaching. Have had dedicated auto gps for years. So we'll see! First thing I did is update to the latest software (2.40). Now it is sitting on the back decking baking for a while with a fresh set of eneloop batteries in. Then we'll play around and get a feel for it. So far click wheel turns easy enough and things seem logical to me. Feel free to pass on comments, suggestions, condolences!
  11. I'm sure this is a real n00b question, but ... When you upload way points for a trail hike from topo software to a GPS unit like 60csx w/o topo maps loaded, what displays on the gps unit. I know you see the route and way points but is it overlaid on anything of detail? By comparison, auto gps will show poi, cross streets, detail.....but on a mapping gps w/o topo what detail references do you see? And the follow-up would be is topo map for your gps necessary for the weekend hiker/camper??
  12. well, stopped by REI today to pick up a 400t and they're sold out of 300s and the 400t. There was not even a 400t in the display case. Interesting since they had one 300 left and several 400t this past Saturday. Oh well, guess I can wait or order from them online.
  13. Vegas Gamblers, Are you happy with the display of the Colorado? Which model did you get?
  14. Well LifeOnEdge (and all), Thanks again everyone for your comments. I'll have to wait till Monday! I have to go back to REI then to pickup some items ordered. Yesterday I played with the 300 for about an hour. Really do like the feel, interface and setup of the unit (much better than the others - Vista, 60csx). Most of the staff there like the Colorado, although a few said the 60csx is still top dog! In the store the display was kinda washed out, readable but dull. Had to crank up the backlight 'bout 3/4 to get what I call a bright, vivid display. Wonder how that affects battery life?? Due to the crowding of the store and lack of employees, they would not let me take it outside into the sunlight to see the display. Such dilemmas!
  15. Thanks folks. Just from what I could tell and your comments, they seem to be a good company to deal with. The concern is if the unit is defective, which I've read some folks have - it's easier to run to REI then to ship but then I'd be paying almost $100 more.
  16. Barrikady or Contryguy .... No problems w/ your 300s?
  17. I'm looking to purchase a Garmin Colorado 400t. GPSNow has the best price ($506). My questions: 1. Are they reliable online retailer , and 2. Since this is a Colorado and reviews have been mixed on the unit - does it make more sense to purchase from REI where if need be I can return it w/o restocking fees or hassle. Thoughts?
  18. Thanks for the response. I did know that. My thinking was that the NatGeo maps were better than Garmin and transfer data (your point) back and forth. Never used the Garmin topo, but here they're inferior to NatGeo. Just a basic point, that National Geographic Mid-Atlantic will NOT load on the Colorado or any other Garmin GPS. One of the dirty little secrets of the industry is that GPS compatable means you can transferr back and forth routes, waypoints and tracks ONLY, NOT maps. Therefore, a 300 with Topo 2008 would likely serve you better. FWIW
  19. Good day to all! I'm new to all this and have read much here and on other forums. Looking to purchase a GPS and topo software soon, but still waffling a little on the best choice. My needs are relatively simple. Looking for a unit for (1) hiking / backpacking, and (2) geocaching - just starting! Looked at many units and keep getting drawn back to the shiny, new Colorado 400t and National Geographic Mid-Atlantic software. I'd appreciate comments and any/ all advice. Thanks!
