What would you consider advanced topics in geocaching? We have a list but it is always better go get this type of information straight from geocachers. Thanks for your input.
  3. Bump - Okay geocachers - only a week or so to get our final gift list ready for 2012. So be sure to put in your suggestions and we will show all on December 4th on Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Thanks for all your inputs! Andy HeadHardHat Smith
  4. Getting great feedback everyone, keep up the suggestions - All will be tallied for our December 4th Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) show. -HHH
  5. Well fellow geocachers it is that time of year again. For the fifth year I am asking geocachers around the world what they want this holiday season in the form of a geocaching gift. This year is no exception. The results will be tallied up for our December 4th, 2012 Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) show. It will also go out on my Obsessed blog as well. So - What would you want this holiday season in the form of a geocaching gift? The answers over the years have been sometimes surprising - so have their rankings as they have gone up and down in popularity. What will this year bring - find out December 4th. Thanks again for your participation - we get a great response every year. - Andy HeadHardHat Smith
  6. Thanks so much for all the responses. I will be keeping this up for a few more weeks before posting. The poll on my blog: is currently showing the highest need for a new GPS and for the first time geocachers would like handy tools ie. letherman, golfball grabber, olive grabber, headlamp, etc. How about you? -HHH
  7. Yeppers it's that time of year again. People are already asking what does everyone want as a geocaching gift for the holidays. So now I am asking you! If you wanted a geocaching gift this year waiting for you. What would you want? Please give as much specifics in regards to brand and model. I will be totaling everything up by December 10th and posting it in time for shoppers to research. Thanks again to everyone who participates in this. I have been doing this list for four years now and I can't tell you how many people (usually spouses) who appreciate your input. Happy Holidays from HeadHardHat
  8. Greeting All, HeadHardHat here. Right off the bat I need your insights with the GPSr units you currently own or have seen in the wild. We are going to be doing a Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) episode of the Good, Better and Best GPSr units out there so if you would be so kind could you give us your insights? We will tally all the data and give it back to you on the show and on my blog. Please answer the following questions: Note if you use a phone include the phone make and app used. What GPSr Make and Model do you use? On a scale of 1 (terrible) to 10 (best) what would you rate your GPSr? What is the best feature of your GPSr you like best? What is the worst thing about your GPSr? And finally If you were to get a new GPSr, which one would you want next? Thanks so much for helping us out. We tape two episodes of Geocaching World every Monday at 6:30pm EST #LIVE through RVNN.tv. See you there!
  9. Hey Gang, In case you haven't heard I am hosting a new Internet TV show called Geocaching World. It is on the RVNN.tv network. We have one show available for you to see and about 10 already filmed. The fun thing about Geocaching World is that we tape it LIVE and you can be in the audience and actually participate in the show. We record on Monday's at 6:30pm EST or so. Usually you will actually see us as we are doing initial setup just before shooting. Anyhow, you can either watch us from the viewing area of either RVNN.tv, Facebook off of the RVNewsNet page or Ustream. If you go into the Ustream area for RVNN Live there is a chat room you can sign into and ask questions, comments and suggestions and we do mention them during taping. Go to either RVNN.tv or my blog at http://headhardhat-geocache.blogspot.com/ for more details. Now for the main reason I am writing this. At the end of the show we aways do a Viewer Challenge. A Viewer challenge can be anything either a new or experienced geocacher can do as a task for that week. We would like for you to write in this thread your Viewer Challenge suggestions. If picked we will mention your alias and the suggestion itself. A suggestion could be as simple as "Go find as many micros as you can in an afternoon" to something more complex. The choice is up to youi. Anytime you think of a new one, come back and put it in here. Put in as many as you want. There are no limits and we appreciate getting these ideas from fellow geocachers. You can't get these in too soon either. We tape two shows a night which includes tomorrow. Thanks so much for you help. It is greatly appreciated. -Andy HeadHardHat Smith Geocaching World.RVNN.tv HeadHardHat@gmail.com
  10. Smart phones really are so integrated in our lives and for many with our geocaching. My question is this, besides all the actual geocaching apps that are out there for smart phones like C:Geo, Geocache Navigator, GC's app, etc. What other apps do you use as well? For example the flashlight app for android or a good compass app. Do you use anything to record your notes or store your photos? Anything above and beyond the actual geocaching programs. I am very interested to hear what you have to say and thanks in advance for all your input. -HHH
  11. This is a little late this year but I must know and so do all the Santa Helpers out there wondering which GPSr to get for you this year. So the question is: If Santa was to give you a GPSr this year. Which make/model would you like as a present? If it is a GPS application for which phone... Happy Holidays and I will compile all the findings and put on my blog. Thanks! -HHH
  12. Remember when you just started geocaching? Even before you found your first 100 finds or so. What was the most frustrating thing about finding a geocache? I am going way back in the geocaching time machine to make a GeoSnippits video showing how to find a geocache as a complete noob. Where do you look? What do you look for? Where do you even know where and what to do? What frustrated us the most when we just started out geocaching. As always I go to the experts which is you.. Thanks in advance for all your thoughts and insights. Will let you know when the next GeoSnippits will be out... Will be soon. Thanks as always, -HHH
  13. Hey All, I was asked to do a Geocaching tutorial on hiding a multi-geocache and wondered if you would mind giving me some suggestions on the proper dos and don'ts, likes and dislikes. What are too many stages, are there too few? Do you prefer physical objects to find or solving tough mathematical problems? What makes or breaks a multi-geocache for you? Would appreciate all the feedback I can get so I can incorporate it into the GeoSnippits. Thanks as always, -HHH headhardhat@gmail.com if you want to email me directly.
  14. GeoSnippits Update: I would like to thank all the geocachers who helped with this thread. The GeoSnippits Video GeoSnippits - How To Deal With Geocaching Muggles was a big success and is live on You Tube: Thanks again for all your suggestions and ideas. -HHH
  15. As usual when needing to know suggestions about geocaching I go to the experts, other geocachers. I have been asked several times recently for ideas about how to find geocaches in a muggle prone area. I have personally used a clipboard, reflective worker vest and hard hat in the past but what I want to know is your suggestions. Granted there is always the come back later approach but for the ones you really must find and to look as inconspicuous as possible situations.. how would you make the find? If you would like your alias stated in the video please note it in your post. Otherwise I will assume you would rather not. As usual, thanks in advance for all your ideas! -HHH
  16. Awesome job! I love it when someone runs with an idea and makes it their own.. Bravo.. -HHH
  17. Thanks for all the responses folks... Please keep them coming.. -HHH
  18. Calling All Geocachers!!! One of the main components in making Treasure Cache TV is you. We will be traveling the world over talking with local geocachers and we need to know where you are. You heard it right. HeadHardHat's Treasure Cache TV is coming to fruition and we are about to hit the road in one big ole RV to visit geocachers around the country and then some. If you, your geocaching family or your geocaching organization would like to have us come and do some geocaching with you. Please come to our official web site and sign up. We will be leaving in a couple of weeks and you will have to hurry to get on the list for Season One. Would greatly appreciate it.. Oh and for all our geocaching friends from around the world. Send your entries in too be cause we are heading out of the states as well... http://www.treasurecachetv.com Look forward to hearing from you! -HHH
  19. A thought occurred to me when answering a general question about using a smart phone while geocaching. Smart phones are becoming very much more poplular lately which means a lot of them when being used for geocaching is being exposed to the outdoors. The very thing that kills smart phones (moisture, dirt, impact, etc.) yet we use them sometimes even more than our GPSr units. My questions: Do you do anything to protect your smart phone when geocaching? Do you carry phone insurance because you intend on using it more outside and if something does happen the insurance will cover it? Any helpful tips, tricks or techniques you use that would be helpful to others in regards to the applications or use of your smart phone while geocaching? Which smart phone do you use for geocaching and how much? Thanks as always! -HHH
