    Pq Request

Yes, that is the section I am referring to. But what I would like to see added to this section is a fourth Radio Button labeled "Home Coordinates" that would center the PQ on my profile coordinates. I would guess that many people use the nearest cache waypoint to their house, or their home zip code, but it would be more precise and the result distances would be accurate if this were an option rather than have to manually enter it each time into the available "By Coordinate" fields.

    Ignore Lists

I too would like to see an option to ignore all caches by user ID.

It seems this should be easy to add - could it be?
  4. The main reason is because I have occasionally been asked for help from new GPS users who own Garmin units. I can't help with what I am not familiar. Then there is the customer support issue. Magellan used to have top rate service. Lately I have had some bad experiences, as have some of my friends. I don't know of a better way to let them know how I think than to buy products from their competition. Thanks for the input everyone, if I do decide to purchase a Garmin it my be a 60CX or a 76CX, depending on the deal I can get.
  5. I have been a long time Magellan fan, having owned three different models. However I have considered getting a Garmin unit for several reasons. Right now I am in a twixt as to which model I should choose. So my question is intended for those who might be able to shed some light on which model I should choose and why. I am considering the Vista CX, Legend CX, and 60CX. I already have a Magellan Explorist 600, so don't care or need the electronic compass or barometric altimeter features; I rarely use them in the unit I have. That being the case I am weighing in favor of the $250 Legend over the Vista. My main question is this: The 60CX is $115 more than the Legend CX. Why would you spend the extra bucks on a 60CX over the Legend CX? Is the Quad antenna worth that much more? Does it perform significantly better?
  6. The logs for my cache Welcome to Bear Country speak for themselves. I think you will enjoy this one, and it is not difficult at all.
  7. Thank you sir, for the detailed explaination. What is a significant adjustment - how far will the log allow the coords to be moved; 527 feet?

It would be really nice if the PQ form had "Home Coords" as a "From Origin" option.
  9. What does the Update Coordinates log type do? There are no fields to enter new coords, so does it notify the reviewer? Is it to be used after changing the coords to notify users? Both? Couldn't find any info so thought I'd ask.
  10. All of the coins that have been paid for have been shipped. Most of you should have gotten yours. International orders should be arriving soon if you haven't gotten them. There are still coins available as some people have not paid for what they requested. You may order here: http://www.geoset.org/coin.htm
  11. Only about 70 coins remain available. Please understand that your order requests are considered tentative until payment has been received. Emails with order details are being sent out. Also, you can follow this link to order and pay for your coins. Coin Order and Payment I received notice that I will be receiving the coins this week! The coins will begin shipping by the end of the week. Thank you for your orders.

  15. Geocachers of Southeast Tennessee have designed a geocoin and would like to share it with collectors. We ordered 500 coins and sold 200 through our club. The remaining 300 coins will be sold here, first come first served. The coins will have antique silver finish, hard enamel color, trackable on GC.com, and a unique icon that will look like the coin. The cost of the coin will be $10 each for 1-10 coins, $9 each for orders of more than 10 coins. The cost includes packaging, shipping, and any paypal fees. We expect to have the coins and begin shipping them before the end of April. Order by replying to this thread. Orders only here please, not trades. We invite you to visit our web page to find out more about our group. We also have a discussion forum, and welcome you to join that as well. Click here to visit our webpage. Here is a concept image of the coin:
  16. Thanks for the summary Keystone. I think the guideline of geocaching events being planned and hosted by and for geocachers is a good one, and not unfortunate at all. I don't think many geocachers would appreciate other uninterested parties hosting their events through this web site. This event was in planning and discussion in our geocaching group long before the opportunity to include the radio group came about. It is not about promoting another event or hobby, but about teaching geocaching to new geocachers. This is why I submit that the event is in harmony with the guideline.
  17. You are experiencing a common phenomenon here; you expect that the reason for the rules is the reason stated. But it's not. This exact sequence has been played out many times before, with exactly the same results. If I were you, I'd give it up. In my area, people have largely abandoned listing events at all because the rules have become so counterproductive and arbitrary. I haven't given it much thought, so I am not sure why Groundspeak dislikes events so much, but (if past experience is any guide) it's not likely that you will get a coherent explanation about why that is. I think your right. I remeber a time when, if two geocachers desided to get married. They could submit it as an event cache and it would get listed. I doubt anything like that would get listed today.
  18. The wording of the listing is inconsequential because of its nature. My approver was sympathetic with the idea, and encouraged me to come to the forums as a next step in the process. If it were a matter of words then I would be guilty of what I have been accused of here, trying to twist the rules. I am not trying to twist the rules at all, only trying to get an explaintion of the rule as it applys to this situation and as a positive construction for geocaching in general. I think the rule is a good rule, but that it does not apply to this situation.
  19. I think we get it. I know in my case, that's why I'm having a hard time understanding why it's so important to list it as a geocaching event. If they aren't already active geocachers, how are they gonna find out about the event via a geocache listing? The only people who are actually going to see the event page are already geocachers. Well let me help you out then. Just over a month ago it was Christmas. Many new geocachers got GPS units for Christmas. Many new geocachers are now out looking for geocaches. Many new geocachers could use a little help understanding their GPS units. Many new geocachers would appreciate an event like this, but it may not happen or they won't know about it because of a few [i'll keep the word to myself] who like to sit at their computers instead of getting out and helping other geocachers by hiding caches or planning events to help them.
  20. Why should I have to tell this group, "hey guys, glad your interested in geocaching but your place isn't good enough for us because we have this little rule. You'll have to meet when and where we tell you." What can I say? Ask people to listen and this is what they come up with?? THIS IS A GEOCACHING EVENT PLANNED BY GEOCACHERS AND OPEN TO EVERYONE. No one yet has given a reasonable or intelligent explanation on why this event should not happen as planned. I don't think this sort of event is what the rule was intended to apply to at all, but as it is with many rules it is applied too broadly and to the detriment of geocaching.
  21. Ah, gee - great idea. Oh yeah, that is exactly what I am trying to do. No fudging either - no kidding!
  22. Why do you have to give everyone a smiley to get them to come? You can still have the same event, just get the word out in your local forums instead of via a cache page. If people are truly interested in ham, they will still come. If they are only there for the smiley, then you didn't want them anyways JHC! LISTEN real close, THIS IS NOT ABOUT HAM RADIO!! And it certainly is not about smilies!!! This is about new and prospective geocachers, including the ones who haven't found our local web page. The best way to get the word out to them is through a listed event, simple as that. This is all about promoting and teaching geocaching to the new geocachers, and nothing more.
  23. This is not about getting geocachers to a ham radio meeting, and I am not even a member of this ham radio club nor have ever been to one of their meetings. I was contacted by a geocacher who wants himself and his friends to learn about geocaching. We have already discussed this event in our geocaching group before these circumstances arose. The timing was perfect until the event got railroaded. If it doesn't work out I think it would be a shame that rule politics would once again leave a bad taste in people's mouths. We are also planning a advanced geocaching event to teach GSAK, paperless caching, and other topics, but want to have this event first. It only makes sense to have it in that order.
  24. No matter how you try and spin it, it sounds like the event is not primarily for geocachers, and the most of the people attending will not be geocachers. And yes, I'm a long time ham, so I know that "In fact we are not meeting with the ham radio club during their meeting, but after their business meeting is concluded. " is just twisting things, since 90% of a ham club's actual meeting takes place "after the business meeting is concluded". Furthermore it is completely understandable how this rule would apply to a ham fest or a field day where the main event is not about geocaching. But this event is all about geocaching except for the initial 30 minute business meeting which we are not participating in. This event is all about the positive promotion of geocaching, hardly something that should be censored by blind rule slapping.
  25. You are mistaken. This ham radio club only has about 15 members and the number of geocachers there will dwarf their numbers. The primary attendance will most definitely be geocachers, and if you have ever been to a geocaching event you would know that geocaching is what will be discussed, not ham radio.
