  1. GC2GNWQ is our cache. Do you know if the guard rail is being replaced or removed permanently?
  2. Cache adoption still seems to be broken as of 12:57pm PDT.
  3. Let's not tell people what should or shouldn't matter to them about Geocaching. People like what they like and that's OK. Honestly, this criticism isn't really directed at you , addisonbr, but it's not uncommon to hear undertones from people who seem to look down upon those geocachers who enjoy the numbers aspect of the game.
  4. From Latitude 47, the official Blog of Geocaching.com, says in a post written by a lackey, in part: "The Triad is one of the crowning achievements of geocaching. Geocachers must log three specific geocaches: the APE Cache Mission 9: Tunnel of Light, Groundspeak Headquarters and the Original Stash Cache. Each find is rich in geocaching tradition. The geocaches do not need to be logged in any particular order. ...and again Join thousands of your fellow geocachers for a once in a lifetime experience in Western Washington State, USA July 2-July 4. This weekend offers the unique opportunity to accomplish three geocaching goals at once: attending a Mega-Event, completing the Triad and earning two brand new special icons!
  5. With all due respect Markwell, I think this is a silly question. My wife and I have only been caching for a bit more than 3 years. During this time, and I'm sure it started well before then too, EVERYONE talks about doing the APE cache and the triad when any geocacher talks about their own geocaching bucket list. Mission 9 and the triad is/was SOLD to geocachers as the pinacle of geocaching achievements by Groundspeak itself. And now that it's gone the attitude of some is to essentially say: Chill out, it was just a cache.
  6. I'm going to keep this post short and just let our opinion be known, for what it's worth to the discussion as a whole. Groundspeak has made a mistake in archiving Mission 9. If Groundspeak has plans to replace, commemorate, or otherwise honor this cache with something new (like a plaque) I believe they would do well to announce these plans right now, even if nothing is set in stone yet. People are changing their summer travel plans right now.
  7. Awesome reply! Let's see - Do you have a cell phone? I can text you when we arrive and if you would indeed bring Mr Thomas out to our car I would be very grateful. Such a sweet offer from such a cute and cuddly CO.
  8. How much would I have to sweet talk you for your entry point in to the swamp that kept even your toes dry? Common
  9. Chestwaders!?!? destroyed!?!? *GULP* Surely you jest...
  10. A friend and I are thinking of attempting this classic, and apparently, challenging cache on Sunday, Aug 22nd. I first tried to solicit this advice on Facebook and only got one helper (THANKS Margaret) so I thought I'd head on over to where the audience is a little more focused on Geocaching So a change of clothes looks like a good idea, towels, rubber boots (should we even bother with these or just bring throw-away shoes?), zip-lock bags for the camera and GPS. What else should we arm ourselves with? How about tips on the right place to start out from. Anyone willing to share that or is finding that part of the fun? Thanks in advance for any hints, advice, or words of wisdom - oh, and - we'll be camping at Mt Rainer the two days leading up to Sunday but if anyone wants to try and meet up on Sunday and make the trek to the cache with us please contact me here!
  11. Thanks everyone! I'm building our PQ's and route right now and we'll definetly be looking for the caches mentioned here.
  12. Some friends and I are headed over to the Tom Petty concert this Friday at the Gorge Amphitheater in Geoge, WA. We plan on spending some time caching along the way on I-90, etc and in the area surrounding the Gorge. Any other cachers going? I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some excellent caches between say Snoqualmie Pass and the area surrounding the Gorge? We've done the APE cache. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
  13. Thanks for the info TM. I see that you reviewed Lisa's cache last night and we have some work to do if we want it published. I'll be resubmitting it today hopefully. Oh, and thanks to everyone else who replied as well
  14. This isn't meant as a gripe in anyway, I'm just curious if there is a backlog of new caches that the very fine GC.com volunteers are working through? Lisa posted her first cache on Friday the 25th and it hasn't published yet. There hasn't been a reviewer note indicating any problem with the cache but we've seen several new ones publish in the area. Out first forum post... yea!
  15. I see what you are saying too. Alright, I've decided to leave it as is. Thank you both!
  16. Thank you as well Quiggles. I guess the reason I thought this cache should have it's type changed is this: It seems like Unknown caches require some puzzle solving before you head out to find it, you're unlikely to be able to solve it in the "field". Also, with a lot of Unknown caches there is no reason to head out to the published location... it's just a dummy marker. By my experience, Mulitcaches generally require you to visit the published location to either find something or solve something in the "field" that will lead you to the final. This cache is much more like the second example. Am I off?
  17. Thank you for your reply Ambrosia. I'll contact the publisher of my cache like you suggested. Looks like you are from Wenatchee? Man, I've looked at the cache map for Wenatchee in the past and the place is just CRAWLING with caches. It looks like you could spend a whole week doing nothing but caching and not get them all!
  18. This is my first post in the forums so be gentle. I tried searching for my answer first but I didn't find it. I think the first cache I placed, GC1AG48, is mis-categorized. Originally I thought this should be an Unknown cache but now, as I've gained some more caching experience, I think it should really be a multicache. Is there a way that I can change this? Thanks in advance!
