  3. This method shows 2 events in my area.....not the 6 listed for the province I live in. As someone who regularly attends events all over the province, the "newest in New Brunswick" link was one I used every day. As the admin for our local Facebook group it was an invaluable, easy tool used to easily promote and post events for the whole province. As someone who regularly hosts events, one click and I knew if my chosen date conflicted with another. As someone who has an online geocaching supplies website and travels the province setting up at events, it was extremely helpful to know in one click what was going on where. As someone who is not terribly tech savvy, it's now become a much more difficult experience to do any of the above tasks. What used to take seconds is now something that I have to stop and think about, or look up a link for, or go through a multi click/scroll down process every single time, just to get the information I need. Removing this option, for those who used it, is extremely frustrating. Please, please reinstate the function.
  4. Thanks so much for your replies. We'll contact Groundspeak to express our concerns and maybe get some answers or clarifications. Most likely though, nothing will change and we'll both have successful Megas. Ya'll are invited!
  5. I must not be a cacher then... My apologies, no offense intended there. Perhaps I should have said: to many cachers that's nothing.
  6. Although we are close enough to draw some of the same people we are too far apart to host on consecutive days. Plus, I believe we both have satellite events planned leading up to and after the Megas.
  7. Are there guidelines for reviewers for duplicate dates when they're publishing Mega events? We're very excited to be part of the team hosting the second ever Mega in Canada's Maritime provinces next July (GC3QME4) in Fredericton, New Brunswick. We're an hour drive from both the Houlton and Calais, Maine border crossings and hope to draw folks from all over the New England States, as well as Ontario and Quebec. We've already received many "will attends" from these areas. We've just discovered that another Mega (GC3G4AY) has been published in Pittsfield, MA for the very same day. This one is much closer to most of the New England states and most of Ontario and Quebec so will draw from some of the same cacher pool. I'm not writing this to complain about their Mega event, we wish them every success, but to ask why Groundspeak would allow 2 on the same day so close together. Yes, we're about 700kms apart but to cachers that's nothing. We'd consider going to the one in MA if we weren't going to the one here. Groundspeak is doing both Megas a disservice by forcing us to compete for vendors, sponsors and attendees. It's hard enough for us smaller and less populated areas to host these larger events and now, in this case, we both have to fight even harder to get the support we need to succeed. Are there guidelines for this type of thing? Just curious.
  8. Search Facebook for Fredericton Region Geocachers, a local social geocaching group.
  9. I always hated the winter here in New Brunswick, until we started caching. Now we just get out the snowshoes and keep on caching. Because winter tends to be long here and we usually gets lots of snow a lot of our caches are winter friendly. We had a "winter friendly hiding challenge" last winter and had over 400 caches hidden within a 40km radius of Fredericton, plenty to keep us caching this winter! Lots of trails with great series for snowshoeing. This winter we're having a "Come Out & Play" contest with tasks and points designed to get people outdoors and caching in the winter. The response has been great so far. Winter caching is what you make of it. And no ticks, mosquitos or blackflies! WooHoo!
  10. I've done lots of ammo cans with the same type of cammo. The best instructions I found were on Geocaching Maine's website. http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/showt...t=ammo+painting I've used both real plants and dollar store ones, both work well. The magnetic alphabet letters are available at dollar stores and I use them to spell out "Geocache" - two sets needed! Then there's no question what it is. Kryol camo paint in 3 colors from department or hardware store. Have fun
  11. The option of viewing/searching by Google maps no longer works. When you type in the city/prov/state it says the location cannot be determined. That's how I always do my searches to start! Come on Groundspeak!!
  12. Slightly off topic here and maybe a stupid question but is there a way to print the Google maps on Geocaching.com to show all the caches in a given area? Have been searching the forums for this topic and you were the closest! If I print the screen only a small portion of the map prints, right click/print doesn't work either. Any ideas? milosheart
