  1. I had a PN-20 but returned it within the 30 day guarantee peiod. While it did get excellent reception and have wonderful maps, I couldn't live with how unbelievably slow it was. The interface had some quirks in it too for me. If their next version is fast, it'll be my next GPS. Until then, I love my 60Cx
  2. A friend just got a Explorist 500 and doesn't have the new map software. He does however have the older Topo USA maps that went on his Meridian Color. I know they aren't directly compatible, but there seemed to be some software that came with his GPS that he installed on computer that said something to the effect of "convert older versions of maps to work on Exporist". Is this right? Can he use the Topo USA to work on his Explorist 500 LE?? Thanks in advance!
  3. Co-Ed Naked Caching! Take it in stride, to look for the hide. It would make meeting other cachers on the trail "interesting".
  4. I've been emailing Garmin and they told me the 2008 version is what is being shipped now. Debating on if I should get it or not. If you've got an old version already, the upgrade is $75
  5. That link is showing two different products, don't get them confused. The first one is "GPS Snitch" which is a GPS with a transponder so you can see where it is at all times. The second item on the page is the "Trackstick" which is only a GPSr and must be downloaded later
  6. I bought my Meridian Color from them about 4 years ago. Then last month i bought a Garmin 60Cx. Both have been great transactions. I will buy from them again next time.
  7. Glad they got that worked out for you. You actually got a pretty good deal in the end. The Meridian Gold you just bought is a very old unit that came out back in 2002. I can't believe they were still selling it. I've got a Meridian Color that is very similar but in color that still works great. I just ugraded to a Garmin 60Cx. Would have gotten another Magellan except for the experience I've had with their CS. Anyways, glad it worked out so you can cache with your family this summer!
  8. I've bought both my GPS units in the last 4 years from www.offroute.com. Wonderful customer service and the cheapest price I could find. Highly reccomend using their service. The 60CSx is listed for $344.95. I just got the 60Cx and wish I would have upgraded to it a long time ago.
  9. I have been using a pouch called a Drypak for about 3 years and it has worked great! http://www.drypakcase.com/ I have also used it to put my camera in when parasailing and any other times when it'd get wet. Very waterproof and only cost about $12. They have them with cushioned backs or clear backs. Cushioned backs give it more boyancy.
  10. If you can even understand what their lowsy Indian Customer "support" is even saying. Sorry, got tired of their lack of support and just switched to Garmin.
  11. I just upgraded from a Meridian Color that I've used to for more than 4 years to a 60Cx. So I'm trying to figure out the software deal. My father in law bought the 60CSx last fall with CityNav and Topo and unlocked a copy to his GPSr. I would like to use the other unlock code on mine. -Can I still register my new 60Cx in my name, and use his unlock codes?
  12. I'd have to change my user name.... because now I can NEVER change my cache-mobile!
  13. Anyone else have a problem with the search funtion. I couldn't pull up restaurants or other catagories that were listed. It would search and search for a couple minutes, lock up, and restart on it's own. I had the maps loaded and newest updates. Gonna ship it back tomorrow
  14. Update: Don't think I can stand the (lack of) speed of this unit so it'll probably get returned. Some maps took 22 seconds to refresh, and I have only loaded the delorme maps, no aerial maps. Just slow. Also don't like how it moves the cursor accross the screen and when you get to the edge, it redraws the map and starts you over from the center. By the time it finishes redrawing the map, your back the edge. I wish you could keep the cursor centered. Several smaller things that I'm used to on my Meridian Color that aren't available. But it's slower than the 5 yr old Meridian I'm using. SLOW Screen is sharp and bright! Maps are really nice! Reception is Great!
  15. I just got the Delorme PN-20. While the screen is nice, the reception is great, and the maps are great... it is SLOOOOOW. I'll be sending it back next week. I thought in the 5 years since the Meridian Color came out, that any newer ones would be quicker... not so in this case. I just can't wait 22 seconds for a map to refresh. I'll probably go with the 60CSx
  16. I inquired about this when I ordered mine last week and they stated they have a physical presence in all 50 states, and they have to charge sales tax to each state they are located in. I just got mine delivered a couple minutes ago... still trying to figure out the software/downloading aspects of it. But the user interface on the GPSr is straight forward. Not too far off the Meridian color i'm used to. The software isn't bad either, just a little getting used to I think.
  17. Sounds like a promising GPSr. Does the PN-20 have any type of carrying clip or strap? Are there any cases available for it yet? I just got a coupon in the mail for $299 for this unit. Very tempting to upgrade from my Meridian Color. I wonder when the next version of this GPSr will come out and the upgrades it will have.
  18. I've had my Meridian Color for several years now and have been very happy with it. Lately it's been acting up a little with it's accuracy, and then a new mount I had broke. When contacting Magellan customer service regarding the issue, well lets just say that I will NO longer be using a magellan. I will have no part of that again. Not sure if I'll go with the Garmin 60cx, a Delorme PN-20, or even a Bushnell, but it will not be magellan. ps, anybody want to buy a Meridian Color?
  19. Magellan GPS support SUCKS. Just talked to "Habib" 3 times and still don't understand what he says. And they won't warranty their windshield mount I've only had for 6 months. Tried and tried to have patience. I've enjoyed my meridian, but I think it's time to look at a Garmin. I won't spend another $40 on a flimsy mount that they won't fix.
  20. Bought mine a while back from offroute.com. Friendly service, and even a follow up call while waiting for my delivery. Will order from them again.
  21. Did the cache boxes not have a waypoint label or name on them to track them down?
  22. Had basically the same thing happen to me as Milbank had happen. After a long day of caching, I got back to the car at dark and reached for my phone to let the woman know I was on my way home, and behold it was gone. Went back the next morning and was able to call it with another phone and found it right where I thought I lost it when I bent down for a cache. I've also dropped it off a pier at the ocean, found a net and fished it out from about 10' deep about 15 minutes later. Rinsed it off, let it dry, and it turned right on! Loved my v60i! Good luck finding your phone!!
  23. Also realize that (at least to my knowledge) that your unit doesn't have a electronic compass in it. It can only base the compass direction by actual travel of the unit. So standing still but turning the gps in circles doesn't show you which way is North, only when you are walking with it will you see true North.
