  1. 1 Colorado - no problems. I'm sure the Oregon is a great unit, and I may even get one some day. But for now, I am completely satisfied with my colorado.
  2. I'm happy with my Colorado the way it is. Any updates would just be icing on the cake imo.
  3. Contrary to many others opinions, I found the snake and the gold panning added much needed depth to the show. Those two events basically sum up what I love about geocaching. It's not just about the cache. It's about the area the cache brings you to and the things you experience while you are there. Good job guys. Sure, it's just a pilot, but the show is headed in the right direction imo. The host really should watch his mouth, though.
  4. Dude, get a grip. Seriously, your fanboy attitude is bordering on pathetic. The 60 is a good unit. The Oregon is a good unit, and guess what..........THE COLORADO IS A GOOD UNIT.
  5. The colorado units with updated firmware are very good units.
  6. Hide your cache! You don't have to have ANY finds to hide a cache. I actually enjoy hiding them more than finding them so far. I've made it my goal to put more time and effort into developing some creative caches that others in my area will be very happy to hunt.
  7. Situations like this suck. There is no black and white. There is always a gray area. My opinion is that it's probably not a great idea to use an ammo box that close to an urban area that could be even remotely considered a terrorist target (an airport in this case). Ammo boxes are awesome, but a clear container probably would not have been blown up.
  8. How long does the rubber cement hold up outdoors? I've camoed a couple of lock n' locks using plastic weld from wally world (the stuff that is in two separate tubes that you have to mix) and sticking the leaves, grass, etc etc, to the plastic weld once it's spread around. That stuff DOES NOT come off, but you have to buy at least two or three tubes to get good coverage. I would rather just use rubber cement if it holds up in the weather.
  9. I don't think the issue is so much that they have saturated the area. I think the issue is that the caches mainly suck. They aren't inventive, same containers, almost all micros etc etc. I don't have many finds myself because of time restrictions, but I already dislike uninventive caches. But, instead of complaining about a few uninventive caches in my area, I have done my best to place a few caches that I feel are worth someones precious time. I don't blame the thread starter for being frustrated. That said, the initial poster unfortunately just needs to get over it. Rules are rules. Guidelines are guidelines. If the caches are in accordance with the guidelines, then there is nothing to be done but suck it up.
  10. OK. I have used my iphone in conjunction with my Colorado for about a month now. I don't cache a whole lot (mainly because there is not a great density of caches in my area), but my iphone has behaved pretty much the same with every hide I have found with it. The main thing I have noticed as far as performance: After calibrating the compass on my Colorado, it is MUCH more accurate than the iphone. The iphone has never gotten me closer than 50 ft., while the Colorado has me right on top of the cache every time. If I was only using the iphone, I would probably have still found everything, but it would have been a bit more challenging and possibly frustrating. Like I've said before, it is definately possible to use the iphone effectively for caching by itself. But, personally, I will always have a dedicated GPS with me as well.
  11. I have made one blend in very well in plain sight in an area that has a lot of sandstone rocks on the ground. I painted it first with flat krylon plastic paint, then sprayed it with the beige textured paint that gave it a perfect bumpy sandstone look. I finished it off with several coats of flat clear coat spray. It's been placed for a little bit now in the weather and the coating is holding up great so far.
  12. I understand what you are saying PP. I think the others responding on this thread probably do too but they just chose to be d*#%s. I don't think the other cacher did anything wrong. Things happen, people have lives outside of caching. Caches get forgotten. Kudos to you for accepting responsibility.
  13. I can't comment on any device except the iphone. There are several geocaching applications available for it, but I use the geocaching app from Groundspeak. So far, I have used it in conjunction with my Colorado 400 and it works fairly well. Not as accurate as the Colorado, of course, but still capable. Having google maps along with street view (awesome feature), make it very handy to have. It's nice to be able to pull up any nearby caches within seconds just by tapping the geocaching application and searching for nearby caches.
  14. I have an Iphone 3g but I live in an area that doesn't yet have 3g coverage. If I have a good Edge signal, net access isn't too bad. Not fast, but not horrible either. AT&T is "supposed" to be continually expanding their 3g coverage. When using the geocaching app on the iphone you can view and navigate to all nearby caches without having to use the internet browser. It works good for me even when I've only got 2 or 3 bars on the Edge network. I use my iphone in conjunction with my Colorado 400 and the iphone gets me reasonably close to caches. Not quite as close as the Colorado, but I would still be able to find them so far if I was only using the iphone. The iphone is an awesome device period IMO. The fact that I can use it for Geocaching was just icing on the cake for me.
  15. I've got the Geocaching app from Groundspeak on my iphone. It is great for looking up caches on the fly that you may not have previously downloaded to your GPS. It's also instant paperless caching as you have the cache description, hints, logs right there on your iphone. I have only used it once by itself to navigate to a cache, and it got me there, but the compass seemed a little screwy. It will work fine in a pinch, but I prefer to use it in conjunction with my Colorado. It's nice to have the google satellite views and such that the iphone provides. I believe there is supposed to be an update coming soon for the Groundspeak Geocaching app on the iphone, but I"m not sure what improvements it will make.
  16. No, I didn't forget to add anything. It's very simple, but we can go over it again. 1. If there are signs stating that the area is used as an off-leash dog park (which is the case in this situation), then there is a good chance there are dogs running around off-leash. 2. If you decide to take your child into such an area and they happen to get bit (which didn't even happen in this situation), you not only have no one to blame but yourself, but your chances of successfully taking legal action against the dog/owner when visible signs were in place warning of danger are seriously in question. 3. If you run around raving like a lunatic because some dog in an OFF-LEASH DOG PARK playfully jumped on your kid, your just plain pathetic. 4. I don't recall the original poster saying anything about tennis courts, soccer fields, etc. Look, I don't even really condone the idea of off-leash dog parks in the first place. I think they are a bad idea and I would never take my own dogs to one (because they are small), let alone my kid. Just because I don't think it's a good idea to let dogs run off leash, doesn't mean I should blame anyone but myself when I knowingly place my child in danger.
  17. Yeah, and I'm sick and tired of people defending stupid a**e$ who can't read a big freaking disclaimer. LMFAO, congratulations Dirty Harry! That is officially the dumbest thing I have read so far in 2009. Did you even bother to read the circumstances that started this thread? I can see the headline now: "MAN ACCIDENTLY SHOOTS CHILD BEING LICKED BY BLOOD THIRSTY LABRADOR!"
  18. I would find it unacceptable if I opened a cache and it was filled with poop.
  19. No, the dog owner 100% responsible for any and all actions of the dog. Go ahead, keep defending idiocy. I would love to have seen this particular case end up in court (not really, just sayin). I guarandamntee you any judge with a lick of common sense would throw that idiot lady's complaint out in a heartbeat. 1. They were on private property! The cachers were technically trespassing! 2. There were freaking signs posted stating that the area was used as an off-leash dog park! 3. There was absolutely no damage done in the first place! People need to get over themselves and take some personal responsibility. Don't take your freaking kid to an off-leash dog park and get mad at anyone but yourself when the kid gets jumped on by a happy dog. Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable.
  20. No, I absolutely understand the point. You, however seem to have missed it badly. Taken from the first page: Official or not, it doesn't matter. Unless those cachers could not read english (judging by their reaction to such a benign situation, I wouldn't doubt it), then it is their own fault for going there in the first place. As for your beach, I would contact law enforcement immediately regarding the unleashed dogs before something bad happens.
  21. Each situation is different. Like a previous poster said, if it is just a regular non-camoed container that isn't in plain sight, then I wouldn't have a problem with taking a pic of it. I would see nothing wrong with taking a pic of a log sheet either. The only pics I have posted show me posing with the swag I collected from the cache, not the cache itself.
  22. Are you kidding me? I hope your not referring to the circumstances that started this thread. Those people went caching in a leash-free dog park! There were signs that said as much! Then they have the balls to freak out when their kid gets jumped on by a dog.......that wasn't on a leash?! Seriously, use your brain people. You don't go walking through Compton and then complain that you were beat up or worse. You just don't. I'm a dog owner, but I don't necessarily condone leash-free dog parks. Why? Because dogs are unpredictable animals and I would never take my small dog into one let alone my child. But if I did and something bad happened, I wouldn't have anyone to blame but myself because I should have known better.
  23. If my child were at an off-leash dog park and got bitten, I would discipline my child for being there in the first place! If the child were brought to the OFF-LEASH DOG PARK (HELLO!!!!!!!) by his/her parents and got bit, the parents deserve to have their reproductive organs removed because they knowingly placed their child in harms way. Talk about negligence! Dogs can be unpredictable, no matter how well they are trained. This post will not be edited. I simply cannot rationalize why someone would knowingly take their child into an OFF-LEASH DOG PARK and chastise anyone but themselves when something bad happens. The topic starter and his friend did nothing wrong. That psycho lady deserved to have the pole holding the OFF-LEASH DOG PARK sign shoved squarely where the sun don't shine.
