  1. I also logged a few field notes offline on iGeoKnife and then couldn't find a menu item to send it to GC.

Then I went to settings, entered my email address where asked and at "Geocache_visists.txt" I clicked on "E-mail file"

Seconds later I got the email and opened the text file with FastKeyboard because it was not readble as it was.

Then you have t copy and paste it to log your field notes.

Not as friendly as Geobucket though.

    Cheers

  2. Thank you to one and all who had a part in this series, from the cachers who placed it, the guys who chased it to the reviewers who "pasted it" ! :P

It started in July 2010, almost got away with it for 3 years !

  3.

Hey Jacques.....are you organising one for us in South Africa? I didn't see South Africa on the Bookmark List as yet :)

    Hi Silvia.

No I'm not this year, just wanted to put it up as a reminder, maybe for somebody who want to host at least one event or for the regular event hosts.

  4. Has anyone else had a problem with the "my finds" pocket query...? On my system it's been dead for some time now - the "Add to queue" clicker is inactive and the "last generated" column says "Never (no finds)" (and yes, I am logged in...). Other pocket queries work fine.

Mine is OK, just tried it and received confirmation email a minute later.

    Good luck.

  6. Hi Vryburgers

This topic was raised not too long ago on the SA Forum and it has been discussed on other international forums as well.link

In my opinion I would not like to see this happening, you know where it is because you planted it, why mark it as Found again ?

  7. Sorry to jump in here, but you have made me curious: What about if you use a Blackberry? Would the gps app and maps work even without roaming?

If I might add : I went over to Maputo in Moz recently just for the afternoon from where we were staying close to Hectorspruit, and tried my luck with my BB.

Obviously I lost my normal phone signal just over the border , BB maps went dead about 5km in but I could use Cacheberry (now Cachesense) right on the coast in Moz.

  8. Hi there Vryburgers

I enjoyed caching with you, Die Pienaars and Megaben in Durban en of last year.

If you want to see what most of your friends in SA has been up to, you can get an update every day on www.sageostats.co.za (link) if they are listed on this site. To get yourself listed there you have to send an email to where it is indicated on the site itself.

    Best regards

  9. Hi everyone, I am planning a new cache that I want to setup, and would love to start the cache with a travel bug in it. Any place that I can buy a travel bug in a shop (gauteng) or can one only get them online? What's some good/safe sites to get them from?

    Hi Daemon

You can get in contact with W@lly, his shop stocks most geocaching stuff, he is based in Centurion/Midrand.

I also keep some TB's for him that I sell at most events in Gauteng.

    I'm in Lyttelton, Centurion.

Thanks I had a look at his site before but was not sure it's still operational. Aah quite close I am in Highveld, any chance that I might be able to come buy some from you one afternoon?

Sure, send me an email to : martinsj@iafrica.com to set a time and date.

  11. Is there a way of archiving a TB, listing it as inactive, missing, stolen or whatever?

Yes. The TB Graveyards are purely ceremonial, and many of them have been archived.

Go to your TB's page. On the top right, there's a section called "Travel Bug Options". On the drop down you will find "Mark Bug as Missing". This will extract the TB out of cache/hands of cacher... and transfer it to "Location Unknown".

If it does pitch up again one day, a cacher can log it... otherwise it remains in TB Heaven.

Travel bugs never die. Once you have given it enough time, (sorry to say it - a year) you can re-release it. You can change the traveler, name, description, photo, mission/goal, just don't delete the logs of the people who previously assisted your bug.

Try Coinsandpin's Copt Cat TB TBcopycat. No need to by a new coin, just reuse your old tracking number. Is your trackable geocoin, Travel Bug®, or other traveling item lost or stolen? Then put that tracking number to good use and keep it traveling by using the Traveling Copy Cat Geocoin.

When you purchase this coin, input your tracking number in the entry box above and we will custom engrave this coin with your tracking number (one tracking number per coin). You can then put this tag into the geocaching wild and continue to see your tracking number travel. It is like recycling those unused numbers, and you can save money by not having to purchase new geocoins or TBs.

Better yet, this coin is affordable. By purchasing this coin, you can recycle your old tracking number for less than the cost of most other travelers. There is no additional cost for engraving your tracking number on this coin; the cost for etching the coin with your tracking number is included in the price!

  12. It sounds good Madsons, just keep in mind that Event caches are gatherings that are organized by geocachers and are open to other geocachers.

While a music concert, a garage sale, an organized sporting event, a ham radio field day or a town's fireworks display might be of interest to a large percentage of geocachers, such events are not suitable for submission as event caches because the organizers and the primary attendees are not geocachers.

  13.

The minimum number of attendees of people (geocacher or not) is 500. So if the average geocaching team consits of 2 people, you would need at least 250 teams attending. We think it is very doable. A lot of marketing and begging may be required, but it is possible.

A mega event in South Africa would be a great thing...Look to Australia! Link: http://coord.info/GC1YJ5R

It is encouraging to see that, although they only hit 319 Attended logs once all was said and done, they were still granted Mega status. So there is hope even if we don't manage to hit that magic number of 500+.

  14. Hi Bruce. My dads birthday falls exacly on that date. So the 7th of May I will not be able to make,

14th suits me better. (But don't change just on my account).

CJ would like to tackle HTML and cache listings and the 7th would suit him better so have scheduled it for the 7th of May. :anitongue:

Keep a look out for GC2QERD, soon to be revealed. :D

Gauteng seems to be very busy these days !

QB II published 12 March for the same day............................... :o

  15. Quote from Danie Viljoen's post :

    Most social cachers:

A total of 563 different cachers have attended at least one event in Africa.

During the past 12 months, 318 cachers have attended at least one event. This is 6% of the total number of cachers who have found anything during the past 12 months. (Maybe this is of interest to the organizers of the Mega event?)

  17. A message from the Geocoin store regarding the 10 Year coin:

"Passwords are off, and we have less than 20 of each version left.  I'm going to send a newsletter this weekend to my customers,.......
