  1. What about those dolls where you pull the string to make it talk? You could use the mechanism out of that and attach the string to your cache container to actuate when the container is pulled out if its hiding place.
  2. I was thinking about doing one of these stuck to a metal pole with a magnet. Then I thought about what would happen if it got knocked loose or crooked. Somebody would probably report it to the park authorities or the utility company as a possible safety hazard. I decided against it.
  3. You're comparing clams and oysters. We're not talking criminal prosecutions and oppressive governments, it's a flippin' geocache. If someone is willing to expend so much effort over something so inconsequential, it tells me that there is probably an agenda in there. Sort of like Groundspeak must have an agenda if they could not let this poor woman write her own cache, and are that willing to offend so many of their members over it.
  4. Simple. "Flexibility" does not mean "we will say yes every time". They decided to say no. That very simply explains the Al Qaeda and Aryan Nation caches question to boot. They have decided to say no. That is their right to do so as the owner of the listing service. Simple. I didn't ask if they have the power to do it. That goes without saying. I asked why.
  5. I am referring to the one that said you cannot allow any agendas or you would have to allow Al Qaeda and Aryan Nation caches. Scroll back a few pages. It's there. Notice that it is used only in a way to show once again that it is a "rule of thumb", which means flexibility. The next sentence even says that it "is just a guideline". You are not going to get a hard and fast rule. Flexibility is there intentionally. I would think that would make the complainers happy! Why wasn't that flexibility used for the OP's cache then? It could have saved all this uproar.
  6. Rules, no. Guidelines, yes. Groundspeak can be flexible. Read the entire topic. Isn't this the opposite of what Briansnat said? I thought the rules were hard and fast. If the OP's cache description was approved, then you are on the slippery slope where you would have to approve Al Qaeda and Aryan Nation caches. Now, all of a sudden, it's flexible?
  7. Unless you were involved, you really have no idea what went on. Maybe not, but neither does anybody else, so it's not really accurate to say everything is settled.
  8. I suspect it probably went something like this:Groundspeak: Either change it or archive it. Seedpicker: I'm not changing it. Groundspeak: Well I guess you decided to archive it.
  9. There is that slippery slope fallacy again. You define it by using your judgment. You are keeping it light and fun by offending the maximum number of people?
  10. It has nothing to do with political correctness. It has to do with keeping political anything out of the sport. If you didn't have the no agenda rule there would be caches all over the place espousing this worthy cause or that one. Then what happens when when one person's idea of a worthy cause is at odds with others? Someone used the example of Planned Parenthood previously. Some people think it's a wonderful organization, while others see it as a tool of the Devil. The Boy Scouts. How could anybody have a problem with the Boy Scouts? But a lot of people do. What about caches promoting Greenpeace or the NRA? Bound to have some controversy there. Maybe even people canceling their memberships because the site would allow a cache promoting one or the other. Then take it to the next level. What about a cache promoting Aryan Nations, Communist Workers Party or even Al-Qaeda? Well most people will say they'd be a no-brainer, of course they shouldn't be published, but these organizations have their ardent supporters too. So what we will have are reviewers who are in the position of having to decide which agendas are "worthy" and which ones aren't. There is sometimes enough controversy over their decisions regarding the guidelines, which is their supposed area of expertise. Imagine the firestorm when a reviewer turns down the pet agenda of sizable portion of geocachers. Nah, it's good the way it is. Let's keep geocaching light and fun and if you want to support the troops, put a bumper sticker on your car, fly your flag, or work to ensure that pro-surrender politicians are not re-elected. No, you guys are the ones taking the fun out of it when you get too heavy handed with the censorship. If you can't see the difference between this cache and one promoting Al Quaeda or Aryan Nations, then I think you have lost your perspective.
  11. I'll be watching this thread to see how it plays out before I decide to become a premium member. I wouldn't want to support a site where political correctness has run amok.
  12. Can you help me with Plucker? I am obviously using it wrong. I open up the cache page in my browser and copy the URL, then paste that into the Plucker desktop's channel url box. Then I run an update on the plucker desktop, and synch the Palm PDA. This works after a fashion but when I open the page on my Palm it says I am not logged in, and so the cache coordinates are not there, nor any maps.
