  1. Any chance GeoBeacon will work with the Nike+ module plugged into an iPhone 4s? The GeoBeacon folks suggest you need an $80 fisca (sp?) module, but if the Nike+ device uses the same technology, it is only $30.
  2. As the organizer for "GC2MKBR CITO @ Cricket Creek 2011" here in suburban Chicago, we are THRILLED to have the additional attention brought to this activity! Our event is a cooperative effort between the DuPage County Forest Preserve District (who has very common sense and pro-geocaching policies for hiding caches in their preserves), local Boy Scout Troop 14 of Elmhurst, IL, and now Magellan! I'm confident the Scouts have no idea how much fun they will have getting dirty for a good cause! Having the Magellan sponsorship really raises the visibility of this event and showcases the commitment many of us have to the Leave No Trace aspect of geocaching. I hope many of you fellow Midwestern cachers will make the effort to join us on May 7th. If you can, please let us know through the cache listing page. We have links to the Forest Preserve's release form there AND we will be pushing out last-minute announcements to those who have registered in advance (parking details, raffle item updates etc.) Thanks Magellan!
  3. Garmin Nuvi 370 = "Garwoman" Our game, when she is in on-road mode getting us near a cache or for "real" navigation, is to add "you idiot" to the end of her instruction. (Sort of like "in bed" at the end of a fortune cookie futune). Garwoman, "In .3 miles, turn left..." Car-full-of-cachers in unison, "..YOU IDIOT!" This works especially well when Garwoman intones, "recalculating, recalculating..." Some will envariably add the unspoken narrative going on in Garwoman's head, "...as I am ALWAYS doing for you! If you would simply turn when I TELL you to turn, we wouldn't be in this mess! Which reminds me...this car is TRASHED! Will you ever throw away your own McDonald's wrappers? There are 20 yr old french frys under your seat!!..." (Yes, it was a VERY long road-trip filled summer for two adults and two kids!!)
  4. I'm using a Nuvi as well (it is my only GPSr and as such, I don't know what I'm missing with other devices That hasn't stopped me from finding caches although it has made a few with elevation clues a star or two more challenging). My phone is a Treo 700P. My current configuration is EasyGPS to handle the .gpx files and CacheMate to go paperless. It is a bit clunky and I haven't worked the process enough times to be proficient at it but the KEY FOR ME and my NUVI... ...is to get the gpx file looking right in EasyGPS (sometimes I have to change a few icons from flags to caches) and then I import the file named "current" from the Nuvi and merge it with the new gpx file I want to add. I save that file and then delete "current" from the Nuvi using file manager, rename the new file "current" and boom, there are all my shiny new treasure chests right on my Nuvi! I'd be happy to hear from others on a smoother way to do this. Good luck, Jeff60523
