  1. On one computer with one copy of Palm Desktop I have four Palm handhelds. 1. IIIx, 2. IIIc, 3. Treo 180g 4. Treo 650. # 1 & 2 are serial connection, # 3 & 4 are USB connection. I have windows XP Pro. I understand there is a different Palm Desktop for windows Vista. It works for me, but maybe Z22 is different. Have you looked at the Palm One site ? It sounds like you have a Palm problem.
  2. Have you tried to hot sync all three with Palm Desktop? When I tried to hot sync two with the same user name it told me I could not. Each Palm must have a unique name. Palm Desktop will let me hot sync each Palm to a different computer, ie home and work. Try to get the Palms working first, then work with Cachemate. Take one step at a time.
  3. I have a Lowrance H2O C. I got it for the big screen. I really like it a lot. It does not do auto routing, but you have the Tom Tom for that. Works for me.
  4. Have a great time caching. I have been to Appleton several years ago, before geocaching. My wife was born in Fond du Lac, she also has an Uncle in Green Bay. If I remember correctly, Appleton is where the "Dandy Roll" was invented.
  5. I just tested the Lowrance Program GPX to USR. It does not work with LOC files. Try the Easy GPS instructions in Airmappers Lowrance Pages.
  6. Have you tried EasyGPS instead of Mapcreate7 ? Instructions in Airmappers Lowrance Page. All I use mapcreate for is to create maps, not for waypoint management. Another program is on the Lowrance site under downloads. GPX to USR Geocaching Utility. I think it works with LOC files too. File Does your file have a .usr extension, like "waypoints.usr" ? Don't give up. You have a great GPS
  7. Also at the top of the forum is a FAQ and a link to Airmappers Lowrance Page. Very good reading.
  8. From Page 59 of the manual. You need to load the waypoints from the card to memory. I have the same GPS and love it. GPS Data files: GPS Data Files contain waypoints, routes, trails and event marker icons. Instructions for copying GPS Data Files between your computer and an MMC are contained in the instruction manual for your MMC card reader and MapCreate 6 software. GPS data automatically recorded in the unit's internal memory must be saved to the MMC (as a GPS Data File) in order to store it on your personal computer. GPS Data Files stored on an MMC must be copied from the card to the iFINDER's internal memory before the unit can read them. Here's how: 1. Insert the MMC into your unit. Press MENU|MENU|↓ to SYSTEM SETUP|ENT|↓ to TRANSFER MY DATA|ENT. 60 2. The Transfer My Data menu includes a message which tells you if an MMC is present or not. If no MMC is present, you must insert a card into the iFINDER to activate the Load or Save commands. To transfer data from the iFINDER to the MMC, press ENT (for SAVE.) To transfer data from the MMC to the iFINDER, press → to LOAD|ENT. 3. Saving to MMC: To accept the default name Data for the GPS Data File, press ↓ to SAVE DATA|ENT. If you wish to rename the file, press ENT to activate the selection box. Press ↑ or ↓ to change the first character, then press → to the next character and repeat until the name is correct. Then, press ENT|↓ to SAVE DATA|ENT. The unit will display a completion message when the data transfer is finished. To return to the Page view, repeatedly press EXIT. 4. Loading to unit memory: There may be more than one GPS Data File (*.USR) on the card. To select a file, press ENT to activate the selection box, use ↓ or ↑ to highlight the file, then press ENT to accept the selection. Next, press ↓ to LOAD|ENT. The unit will display a completion message when the data transfer is finished. To return to the Page view, press EXIT repeatedly.
  9. What you want is an event cache. Post it like a regular cache but in the drop down box is the event type. Pick a location, a park, or somebody's house. Cook some hot dogs, or go to a a restaurant and let them do the cooking. Most places will let you use a meeting room for free. The date hidden is the date of the event. Describe what you want to do. Maybe add some fun things like a hiking stick contest, best cammo on an ammo box or give some door prizes like ready to hide caches. It is easy and fun. We have a monthly breakfast that rotates among cachers at an all you can eat place. Eat and talk, show off latest GPS or PDA , swap travel bugs and coins and stories about the best hide.
  10. I see you are a premium member. I have a Pocket Query that is events only within 250 miles of my house. I have never really run it, but review it about once a week, (one of the icons on the left) to see events. You might include events, mega-events as well as Cache in Trash out events to see what is planned in your area. You can also plan an event. In North Texas we generally meet once a month for breakfast generally at an all you can eat breakfast place. The place will let you use a private room or area for free. The planning is rotated each month so a different cacher plans the event and location. Sometimes the organizer will have door prizes, or the Easter Bunny or Santa my appear or a contest for the best walking stick. We eat, swap travel bugs, swap stories, eat, look at other GPS's. I have even given lessons on GSAK and going paperless. Many times after eating, groups will go and find the local caches. I know the Southeast Texas Group has a lot of activities. The group in Beaumont has a First Monday Event. Have fun.
  11. If I had a brother in Iraq and he gave me something like your pack, I would use it with pride. (Wave flag here).
  12. I really like my H2OC. No need to contact customer support. It has worked fine out of the box. Had it about a year. Large display for older eyes.
  13. I have an even older 180g Treo. Not color (American Spelling) but it holds more caches than I can find in a year. As long as it uses the Palm Software it can run Cachemate or the Spinner/Plucker/Sunrise system. It hot syncs just like a any other Palm.
  14. I have an ice cream cone. It was in a big pile of stamps at a crafts and scrap booking place. In case you are not old enough, a sodajerk is a slang name of server at an ice cream place. I owned one for about 6 years before they tore down the building and made a parking lot for a big grocery store.
  15. Hi. My suggestion is to get a PDA that will connect to YOUR computer. Some of the new computers do not have a serial connector, some of the older Palms only connect via serial connector. There is an adapter but that is extra cost and setup. If YOUR computer has a serial connector, then an older one will work great. Get a cheap one. Good luck
  16. I am not a big fan of Cachemate, not because it does not work great, I even paid for it and tried to use it for a while. I am left handed and it is a very right handed program. I just like the Web Page look of Plucker. I played with Sunrise a long time before I got it to work. Plucker kept locking up. Look at this Word Document I made up and see if it helps. I don't remember having the types of problems you are having. Good Luck. No I am not going to suggest you take the bus

    Age?

63 here and the wife is 65 but she looks much younger.
  18. I too do not care for Cachemate. I tried it out, even made the payment because it is a good program. My problem is that it is a very right handed program, and I am left handed. So I use the SunriseXP Desktop and Plucker Reader. But to organize everything in the beginning I use GASK. Just my two cents, but it works for me.
  19. The two palm's you mentioned will work and are cheap on e-bay. Just look. But be sure what you get can connect to YOUR computer. Some have serial connections, some people have had problems with older Palms and Windows Vista. I have a Palm IIIx and an older laptop with a serial port and Windows XP. No problem. You also need software on your Palm and computer. Many like Cachemate, but I like Plucker and Sunrise XP better because Cachemate is a very right handed program. (I am left handed). I have no experience with PPC
  20. Was it working correctly before the batteries were changed? I used one for about three years, and still have it for a backup. Just give it a clear view of the sky for a time and let it find all the satellites. It will calibrate itself. Make sure it is set for WGS 84 and the other settings as found in the FAQ at the top of the forums. It is a very good receiver. I use it last Saturday in placing some caches along with my new Lowrance to verify correct location.
  21. If your have GASK, you don't need spinner. If your PDA is a Palm Device then you Cachemate $8.00 or Plucker (free). I paid for Cachemate but I don't like it because is is such a right handed program. I am left handed. Plucker has its problems too. The desktop program called spinner sometimes hangs and locks up. A better spinner is Sunrise XP. You can try Cachemate for free (limits on number of caches). It installs on your PDA with a hot sync of Palm Desktop. In GSAK go to File Export and export CacheMate PDB file. It will ask you the name of your PDA as the last step. Open Palm desktop and hot sync your PDA again. I know it sounds complicated, but search around. On the Geocaching page, cllick on resources on the left. It opens up a page with links. Go to Geocacher U and some of the other links.
  22. If you have a Palm Treo, you are set for paperless. I used mine until it broke, now I am back to my Palm IIIc for paperless. Search for blackberry, I saw a thread for paperless with a blackberry not long ago. As for a GPS, Garman seems to be the most popular, but I have a Lowrance H2OC and love it. Go to a local retailer and handle some of the units to see how they feel in your hand. Your GPS should be a rugged outdoor unit to take the spills on the trail. Happy caching
  23. I have the H2OC but no Fishing Card so I am not much help. All I can do is wish you good luck. Also I have never had to contact customer support (knock on wood) so I don't have any helpful tips there either.
  24. My TREO 650 is palm driven. I use Plucker instead of Cachemate. Cachemate will work just fine, I just don't like it because it is so right handed, while I am left handed. When I hot sync, I load the information in the card. It will hold a zillion caches. My color screen is fairly easy to read in sunlight. There are options for most any device including blackberry and i-pod and a host of palm or window driven smart phones. Happy caching
  25. You might check to see if there are monthly events that people attend. In our area we have a monthly breakfast which can have as many as 50 to 75 attendees. Search fro event caches in your area. If you go perhaps she will also be there or someone might know her. Good luck, and godd hunting.
