  1. Good advise on using T8 to load the PN40. I just bought mine from REI during the labor day sale and I use T8 to load PQ's with no problem. One thing that I found out, is not to load the PQ after it has been through Spinner, or anything that changed the GC number field. The PN40 will still work for find the cache, etc, but the field note will not match up to the website, when you go to log the finds.
  2. Well, I just put down the cash (plastic) on a PN-40. They are backordered, but still at a savings of $140.00. It will be my second GPS after my Garmin Vista HCX.
  3. I have a Vista HCX and there is a function to do the averaging for you. It is accessed off of the Mark Location screen. I just start the averaging and let it go for at least 200. IMHO, 10 is NOT enough. The more that you can do the better. I would think that you GPS should have the same function. WStemple
  4. That is all that should be required. I believe the page supports all Garmins that can receive WP's to them. It probably uses the same method as the Mapsource program does.
  5. 2 words: Pocket Query. With the Premium membership, you can create PQ's and then load the GPS "untill the cows come home."
  6. Laptop + WIFI hotspot. I have used the same to log caches before heading home on some local hunts.
  7. I also have a Palm Pilot TX that I have TomTom and Cachemate loaded. I use the TomTom with them loaded as POI's to get me to a parking spot and the Cachemate to then referr to logs , hints, etc.
  8. I have the Vista HCX and use the mini-USB from my Palm / TomTom GPSr hockey puck just fine. Would have been nice if Garmin had made it to recharge when plugged in.
  9. First things first, how can any electronic device that does not transmit, interfer with a modern plane? GPSr's do not transmit, unless you have on with bluetooth and it is active. I took a domestic trip (except for the shortcut over Canada) and used mine during the flight. They do ask that everyone turn off and stow your devices during takeoff and landings, but you can turn them back on during the flight, when told so. Have fun!
  10. I have started using CacheMagnet for the times that I need to have it on paper. ie. I had 22 caches that I wanted to try in a single day. This program will take a PQ file and produce a report that has multiple caches on it. You can also edit some of the information for a cache to either delete info that you do not need or add info of your own.
  11. According to the spec, it is looking for a CF type I or II card. I would also suspect that, being an older model GPS, it cannot handle that large of a card. They list a 128MB and 256MB cards as options.
  12. I think that he is looking for the same thing I am. I ws making a route from Albany, WI to Bellarie, MI. Since there is no option to avoid toll roads. Also, the kml file cut across corners, instead of locking onto the road. One way to 'correct' the issue is to create extra wapoints to have the route use a via points. What I would be doing is adding some of them and then previewing it on the GC site. If needed, then add some more until I was happy with the route. Clearer? Thanks, Wayne
  13. I have a T|X Palm Pilot. I use GeoNiche for holding the cache information, since the Garmin does not load the notes, etc. I purchased the TomTom for the palm, so I can use it for driving and I have the BT GPSr to use with the GeoNiche.
  14. I think the answer to this one is in the data used to create the maps. I found a similar problem in one Upper Michigan county--Ontonagon. The answer was posted back on page 9 or 10--about a third of the counties haven't had their data updated, and yours is among them. Here's the link: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/tgrshp...hp07nomtaip.txt That is good to know. So the Gov is behind us getting lost!!
  15. I first want to say THANKS for all the hard work that you have put into these maps!! I seem to recall (somewhere in these 11 pages) that you are looking for feedback on the maps. I have noticed two things. I was working on loading a few counties in Michigan for a trip and found a county missing. I do not know the name, but Charlevoix is located in it. It is along lake Michigan, north of Traverse City. I went to select it and it would not highlight. The other item is the accuracy of the roads/streets. What would you say is the "acceptable" tolerance that one should expect? I live in south central Wisconsin (Green county) and noticed that it places me off the road a bit. Not a big deal for me, as I am using the Garmin for GC'ng and use my Tom-Tom for navigation. Please let me know how I can help on the latter. Thanks, Wayne
  16. I also just purchase a Vista HCX. All was good until I installed v1.4 of the maps. This is the first install of them. The error message is: There is a problem with the Product Tigerdata installation. Please re-install Product TigerData and Start MapSource Again" I am running v6.14.1.0 of MapSource. Please advise what I should do, as I have a trip out to NJ and wanted to do some caching. You currently need v6.13.7, you can get it here: http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/msourc...Source_6137.exe That seems to have taken care of it. What, if anything, am I giving up by downgrading?
