  1. ...when I was laid off more than I was working. Now I'm working six and seven days a week, and, well, "I'd Rather Be Geocaching!!!"
  2. I use mine for moose hunting. It's saved my butt more than once - I take the waypoint of the vehicle before I hike into the bush (and of course, I bring LOTS of spare batteries!)
  3. I like mine because of all the nifty little pockets. Perfect for geocaching.
  4. I'd try and make it. Haven't seen much "meet & greet" activity down this way. - hamgran
  5. We found a cache called Floyd, in the Ganaraska Forest Area northeast of Toronto, on our ATVs. It is accessible other ways, of course, but we entered on the west side of the Forest and ATV'd about 8 km. to the cache. It was great. - hamgran
  6. I wouldn't trade my Vista. I'm really comfortable with it, and I really like everything about it, especially the electronic compass. The only feature I wish it had is the ability to put waypoints into different files. I have about 100 waypoints in it right now - some are of geocaches I own, some are of geocaches I want to find... it would be nice to separate them somehow, rather than all together in alphabetical order. I'd even separate the ones I want to find into different cities. But then I don't know of any GPSr that has this feature. - hamgran
  7. Wine???? Did somebody say wine?????
  8. I've never put travel bug tracking numbers in my logs, specifically for this reason, but I often will put the travel bug's page number (TB followed by four digits). I do this so that anyone reading the log can easily identify the TB I either picked up or dropped off at that particular cache that day. The logging system for the TB cannot be accessed with this number. You wouldn't believe the number of (rather snooty) e-mails I get from fellow cachers who don't take time to think, and just assume I have posted the six-digit TB tracking number!!! - hamgran
  9. I would like to see a forest-green bumper sticker with the geocaching logo on the left, and "I'd Rather Be Geocaching!" beside it. - hamgran
  10. Bubbles. Never put bubbles in a cache. I've seen a few of those little plastic champagne bottles full of bubble stuff that you get at weddings. They make quite an interesting mess of cache contents after they freeze, crack the bottle, and thaw. I guess it seems like a nice enough idea in the summer, but you just can't rely on them leaving the cache before the frost hits. Using pencils in a cache instead of pens is an excellent idea, and don't forget to put a small pencil sharpener in, too. - hamgran
  11. OK, I guess I'm just the curious sort, but I can't help but wonder who is responsible for that number going up in the corner of my cache pages... (I'm flattered, really!) Is there any way for a cache owner to find out who's interested enough in her caches to want to see the entries as they're posted?
  12. A couple of people have asked me if the U.S. government will ever start charging the general public for the use of their satellites (to obtain waypoints with GPSrs.) While the idea seems pretty farfetched to me (a massive undertaking - how would it be controlled?) it has been pointed out to me that companies do it with TV satellite signals. What are your thoughts on this, fellow geocachers? - hamgran
  13. I just read the posts about the 2003 Canadian Travel Bug Race... sounds like a lot of fun! I am definitely interested in being part of the 2004 Race. Thanks. - hamgran
  14. PumpkinOneA and I will be there. We have (romantic) dinner reservations at 7:30, though, so will have to leave around 6. Thanks!

    Accessibility

My idea for additional features on the geocaching website: have a symbol for wheelchair accessibility on the cache pages. For example, if a cache is accessible via wheelchair (even, paved path; and cache hidden in a spot where a chair can safely reach), then have an 'accessible' symbol of some kind on the page. One cache I just did that was very accessible is "Little Etobicoke Creek Cache". On the page where we fill in the details of our caches when we first set them, you could have a spot for the cache-setters to answer 'yes' or 'no' to the question, "is the cache wheelchair accessible?" and then you'd be able to include the symbol on the cache page if applicable. - hamgran
