  1. Thank you everyone for offering advice regarding the Earthcache Event. Your advice aided me in my thoughtful emails to everyone. Over the last couple of days I have been in touch with Geoware of the geologic society and he has posted a note on my Earthcache Rocking down the highway that it indeed does comply with the new guidlines. ( He even went so far as to post a note to that Earthcaches page and asked me to forward that info to the reviewer. ( I did) He also suggested I remove the one off the event page that does not meet the new guidlines ( It was not mine) as he would only like Earthcaches that highlight an earthcache that meets the new guidlines to be featured at Earthcache events as the reviewer had stated. Si I have enabled it again for a reviewer and now I wqit patiently. Also want to let you guys know that if you have an Earthcache even one over on the other site that part of my correspondence that even they will have to meet the new guidklines. When geoware is back from the east coast over the next few weeks he will be performing maintence on all the Earthcaches. So if you have one please update to meet the new guidlines. And regartding the Earthcache pins, he may be sending me a few overnight if the event cache gets listed. HE did tell me he does not have anything to do with those approvals. He also explained that is one reason why there are only 2 listed as others have had similar difficulties with the Earthcaches not comlying with the new guidlines. So I urge anyone with an Earthcache either here or at the other site to bring them into compliance.
  2. I offered in an email to the reviewer to delete the earthcaches but I have not received a response, I only posted here as time is of an essence. As the event is 1 week away. I have even called geoaware and left a message at the geologic society, but I am aware that he is most likely somewhere in nearby Phila PA at the setting up or attending the geologic conference. Should I just go back to the page and delete the earthcache references? I have never had to resubmit an event or cache and am not sure what to do next. Waiting is so frustrating.
  3. Please please please I need advice ASAP!! Back on Sept 6th I posted here that I would do an Earthcache Event, and that evening I sent my page off to Gary at the geologic Society. I only heard back from him a couple of days ago, and here is his reply "Hi I am already on the east coast doing some other work stuff....sorry about the brief email...but its just to let you know that any ebent cache goes through the normal gc.com process of approval. While they are related to EarthCaches...i have no part in the approval process Gary Gary Lewis Director Education & Outreach Geological Society of America www.geosociety.org glewis@geosociety.org Headquarters 3300 Penrose Place Boulder, CO 80301 Ph : 303 357 1043 Fax : 303 357 1073 Satellite Office (Australia) PO Box 187 Calwell ACT 2905 Ph : +61 2 6294 1536 Cell 1 720 201 8132 (international) I then promptly emailed Groundspeak asking for an exception to the 2 week guidline ( That is not the problem) Today it was turned down here is the reply ( bascially he says go back to Gary and that the Earthcaches featured do not meet the new guidlines. The Earthcaches are close by were I am holding the event , were grandfathered on gc.com and one IS NOT EVEN MINE SO I CAN NOT CHANGE IT.) EMAIL FROM REVIEWer "Unfortunately, I cannot publish this EarthCache Event because the EarthCaches featured do not adhere to the new guidelines. Please work with Gary Lewis at the Geological Society of America to better understand how these lisings and the overall event may be improved" I have offered to delete them from the page in an email ( I can not change them one is not even mine, a) deleting them to me also defeats the purpose of encouraging Earthcaches. I have emailed Gary and the reviewer and Terrydad2 for advice, Terry dad 2 helped me with the html in fact I borrowed a lot of what is on my cache page from him. Since Gary says he has nothing to do with Events I am at a loss. I can not change the Earthcaches They are not mine) Anyone please help as time is ofthe essence. As you can see I am extremly frustrated about this. I still will hold my event and just post to local forums but I was hoping to have it listed here. This of course has discouraged me from doing this ever again. It is frustrating when I went to Gary first in a timely fasion and he says he has nothing to do with events even Earthcache events. Maybe I can advertise some Earthcaches that meet the new guidlines but none are in our state or near the event location. I will email the reviewr again.
  4. My suggetion to the op is to repost some more ideas, about the proposal. Also read over some more Categories. This is not exactly like the virtuals on gc.com. A catagory is more similar to a locationless cache, which have not been on gc.com for quite awhile. IT is the waymark that is similar to the virtual you speak of. (ANd you proposed a Catagory) You said you have created some questions for logging a find. ( It does not work this way.) Categories generally do not ask questions for finders like the virtuals did. Someone reading the Category would create a waymark,by filling in the variables of the Category. Then finders then come find the waymark ( usually posting a photo and description, but as of now there is is not away to put these variables into the find of the waymark. (IT usually is a log and photo.) And the owner of the waymark; not the Category group who accept the find or decline the visit. Creating extra work for people who create the waymark to verify visits is not generally done. As it could generate tons of emails not to the group but to the waymark owner. ( I hope I have explained this so that you understand) List of variables: ( you can choose from these, when creating the Category) Radio button list Check box Drop down box Short text box Multi line box Simple date Simple time Start date/finish Start time/finish Additional coords Textbox for Decimal # Textbox for Non Decimal 3 Rating Textbox for currency Web address Physical address ISBN # What you have described is very similar to a mystery cache or a multi as BruceS suggested and Jake39 posted. Maybe these poles would make a catagory http://www.weirdnj.com/stories/_roadside06.asp
  5. This is the where I believe this would fit into the index: (And as you can see this is not the index for Art Museums.) But remember you can only suggest were it goes when you create the Category TPTB actually place it where they think is best. Art/Music more detail Locations of artistic things. Subcategories: ( Please note that each of the below are not actually subcatagries but actual Catagories with their own management group, this is just the directories index.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Abstract Public Sculptures • Murals • Art*o*mats • Musical Instruments • Fiberglass Horses • Outdoor Wind Harps • Garage Door Art • Outside Wooden Display Carvings • Gargoyles • Painted Hydrants • Graffiti • Statues • Immortalized in Lyrics • Topiaries • Junk Design Houses • Wee Folk Fairy Doors You would have to make the catagory significantly different from the Abstract Public Sculptures Catagory or it would be a duplicate Catagory which do not make it through the peer review.
  6. I think a category for Outdoor Sculpture gardens would be great. The one in my neborhood is not in a formal garden setting but an industrial park. So I think Sculpture gardens would be the Category title and yes I see it fitting under Art in the index not gardens. Please create a group , But unfortunately I already am in several Categories but this is one I would post to.
  7. This is how I use Waymarking.com. It typically depends on when and why I am visiting the site, similar to BruceS But the very first thing I do in regards to Waymarking is: 1. Check my email for Waymarking . 2. Delete all the 'new waymark notices. 3. Answer any waymarkers that have emailed me. 4. Check to see if any are votes needed. Standard visit to the Waymarking site is next: ( Usually link to it from the final email.) 1. Glance up to see if any new categories are up for peer review. (Review them or defer them if I want to think about it for a while. 2. Glance over to see if any new categories are now active. (Submit new waymarks to these categories if I antipated them and had pictures and coordinates on hand, if not on hand add to persoanl list to create.) 3. Look down and see the most recent 4. Click the show more recent waymarks and look down the list. 5. Click on the largest to see how it stacks up. 6. Click on the favorites to see where my Categories stand. 5. Go to my categories and check to see if any are awaiting approvals, or votes. If there are those needing approvals read through them and either approve or disapprove 8. Go to forums.
  8. If I am recalling correctly only premium members have access to "Rate " or 'vote 'the Category as a favorite and create a favorite list. When you are a premium member This appears at the top of each waymark next to the popularity filter that is only avaiable to premium members also.and you click on Favorites and it goes to your favorite list
  9. Well since we have Independent Coffee Shops http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/default...b1-5fca8c0dbd1a I guess we could have Starbucks then, but I would only post one if it is somehow different like the MC D's that I posted was in a train.
  10. Yeah I know you guys are geocachers, but I need someone to create a waymark for our Wee Fairy Doors. Alot of them are in Ann Arbor Michigan so I am apealing to this forum for someone to do this for our Category http://www.Waymarking.com/cat/details.aspx...ce-7db1e6d7e0f5
  11. One way that I think some of this could be fixed is that TPTB could make "Can Review Waymarks" editable for the leader of the Categroy. That would stop all the extra submission emails. If an officer wants to only edit the Category for example; but have no other input then this should be allowable to the leader of the group to assign all Group ranks. Currently Leaders have no access to "Can Review Waymarks" You might have an expert in that Category and he would like his input to be in content only then this should be allowed,
  12. Ambrosia ,Sorrry I was not clear enough The demotion comment was not meant for you !! This sentence was the only one that I meant for you "I agree with Robert; If you are not active as an officer in the Category then you should become just a member within that group" This sentence was generic if people are not active as offcers (and the leader defines what is active for them.) "But In my humble opinion if an officer is not actively taking part in Categories then they need to step down and let someone else or face demotion." I said this because Categories are failing because of lack of involvment of officers and they need to be demoted so the Category has a chance. Even the Blue Quasar says " got a reply from every Officer except one, and now I am going through the process of demoting that one and asking if any others would rather resign (if they are unable to commit to the process" Evidently this does not apply to you as in another post the Blue Quasar says "She responds to every email I send to her."
  13. This yellowy substance looks like Yellow sulfer tpowder to me. Sulfur is a yellow mineral that quite, often occurs in nature in powder form. It can, under pressure, bond to water, as in mineral springs or mix into the earth, as in mud baths. Normally sulfur is expunged from under the ground through the craters of venting volcanoes, where it is spread around in chunky blocks. The crescent Moon nearest Autumn Equinox signals the beginning of a new cycle of creation according to many ancient traditions. So I can offer up a few cultures that may utilize Sulfer powder.. This 7TH MOON CELEBRATION, NEW MERCURY, MARS/URANUS TANGO The appearance of the crescent Moon before the Autumn equinox signals the beginning of a ten day period celebrated in five world cultures. Traditional Cherokees, Chinese, Jews, Hindus, and followers of the Greek Mysteries (Pagans) all believe this time each year is when the world is recreated. The more they get to the core during these ten days the more they are empowered to recreate our world. ( Yellow sulfer powder figures in many of these traditions during this time period. 1. Mabon, or the Fall or Autumnal Equinox, celebrates the end of harvest. Again we find ourselves with a day and night equal. On this day, which will fall somewhere between the dates above, the Sun again passes the equator, this time on its trek south. At this time the "chase of Lugh" ends with the felling of the last shaft of grain. It is within this last shaft that Lugh has hidden, but with His death, His sacrifice, we live through His abundance. This is time for thanksgiving, evaluation and meditation. Take stock in what you've received and prepare for the dark days Many practitioners of the Wiccan religion buy Yellow Sulfer Powder (Herbs 1 Lb Sulfer Powder (Brimstone) for 7.95 )to dispel or prevent a hex from being placed on them; this yellow powder also destroys an enemy`s power over you. Someone may have been doing some ritual magic for the new year. Dispelling & protection ceremonies usually involve projections into something like a potato or Apple. 2.The Seventh Moon and Ten Day-Nine Nights Festival of the CHEROKEE The Cherokee call this the Great New Moon and believe it is when the world is recreated each year. The remarkable parallel between this Cherokee traditional belief, , and corresponding celebrations of other diverse world cultures. The New Moon closest to Autumn Equinox is the 7th New Moon of the zodiacal year, the 7th after the Spring Equinox.. This is when the Cherokee traditionally begin their new year festival called Nuetiegwa, the Great New Moon Ceremony. The more they get to the core during these ten the more they are empowered to recreate our world. The beginning date of this celebration period depends on the Moon being far enough separated from the Sun to appear as a small crescent in the western sky. The Moon cycle becomes viable and seeds are best sown on all levels after the crescent New Moon becomes visible. The more there is awareness of personal and world shadow and need the more spiritual power is invoked for healing and renewal. Indigenous peoples have from ancient times recognized the power of the Moon. In all the old cultures the New Moon is celebrated when the waxing crescent first appears in the western sky. Life force is renewed then and all outward activities are supported by the New Moon energy. Cherokee women dance at this New Moon from the time the crescent is sighted until it sets on the horizon. The womens dance is believed to help the world be reborn and ground (embody)the new energies of the time. The Cherokee call this the Great New Moon Ceremony - or Nuetiegwa, the Big Medicine Moon. Numerous parallels exist between Jewish and Cherokee celebration and religious tradition. Some say the Cherokee are a lost tribe of the Jews. It is more likely that the two cultures share a common understanding of the cosmic order of creation. The Great New Moon Ceremony begins a spiritual renewal and healing which culminates 10 days later in the celebration of divine union called Atohuna, the Friends Made Ceremony. The intervening days are a time for healing relationships, for making amends with friends, and opening our hearts to wellspring of love within. September 30th - Day 3 is ruled by Mercury. A wake honors Aesclepius, the god of healing, this day in the Eleusinian Mystery School. Mercury with the caduceus is the Roman god of healing. Health giving fruits of the harvest are shared this day. Potatoes are prominent. Seven sacred herbs are gathered this day by the Cherokee to make their purging/healing black drink. Seven Cherokee women began a 7 day fast to bring revelations to their tribe. Like Native America's Ghost Dancers they let themselves fully feel the pain within and release through deep breathing, chanting, and maybe even some emotive groaning as they move clockwise / Sunwise around the releasing circle. The combination of prolonged deep breathing while diving deeply into each agonizing feeling can effect this emotional clearing. (Emotion cannot be repressed while breathing deeply.) It may be helpful to drink lots of pure water today to help release emotional toxins. Toxins are sometimes projected into potatoes or other vegetable/fruit. Day 9 of the Mysteries is called Plemo Chori, the "Pourings of Plenty." A ritual drama called the Vision of the Shining One is enacted in a subterranean grotto. Today the Cherokee Chief climbs to the top of some special place and sings praises to Yowa the Creator. Cherokee men then chant and beat around clockwise with white sycamore rods to clear away evil spirits. The way is cleared for the kindling of the sacred New Fire on the day following. Day 10 - The Cherokee call this day Atohuna, the Friends Made Ceremony. A New Fire is kindled and vows of eternal friendship are made in the presence of Yowa the Creator. As with the Jews, this is the day held most sacred in the Cherokee calendar year. The New Fire started this day was kept lit in the council lodge through the year until the following Atohuna New Fire Ceremony. The spirit of this holy time was perpetuated by that living flame throughout the year in temple and home. Some key observances for this holy day period: 1) Dancing while the crescent is visible the first few evenings 2) Water immersion on Day 2 to purify & let go worldly attachments 3) Evening meditation facing north toward the pole star 4) Fasting, evening meals only (a Hindu tradition), vegetarian diet 5) Going to a mountaintop on the 9th Day for picnic and communion, (Yellow Sulfer Powder can be used to dispel negativity ( Could be on the Potato) 6) Fasting on Day 10 with reverence to the Creator 7) Deep breathing to energize and integrate new realizations 8) Exercise leading each stretch with a deep breath to release stored physical and emotional tensions and open to spirit
  14. I agree with Robert; If you are not active as an officer in the Category then you should become just a member within that group. But In my humble opinion if an officer is not actively taking part in Categories then they need to step down and let someone else or face demotion.
  15. If I were you I would email the leader of the group first and see what is the problem, unforutnately in one of my Categoriesfor some reason the waymark was not viewable and just sat in limbo, until I heard from the poster several days later I did not know of the waymark or the problem, once I knew it was somewhere, I sought help in finding it with some great waymarkers I have become friends with and problem solved waymark approved. So my advice is email a polite email to the leader before posting in the forums. Go to the source first and then when there is problems ask for assistance in the forums.
  16. PAWSitraction Took A look at your Artesian Well Eartcache You could easily add a crossword puzzle to your waymark page. Use the words impermeable Aquifer Watertable Elevation Flow Waterpump Pressure All those words someone woud have learned while visiting your waymark, then have them email the answers to you to log the Earthcache. You could even incorporate solving the crossword puzzle to get the real coords for the Earthcache. Use the website wordplays to help you create a crossword puzzle, heck make them unscramble an anagram.

  18. I do think that ulimately earthcaches and web Cams should not have been moved to Waymarking until we are in the finding part of this game here at Waymarking. We are still in the very begining of this activity and we are still creating Categories. Once the site is populated with categories ( I'd guess three years then the game will gradually switd=ch to a finders game). Web Cams and Earthcaches should not have been moved until this game was about finding not creating. But the TPTB disagreed and placed all new ones here. lLke the locationless caches they could have been moved over when finding is a routine activity. I firmly believe that they belong in Waymarking as they do not have containers and are not caches. Remember that Waymarking has not been proper;ly advertised YET!! THye belong were there is no container, but in my humble opiniuon they moved them prematurely. But you should not compound an error with another error. I am fully aware that they are not being visited at this site ( that is one of my reasons why I have not created an Earthcache here yet, while I have two on GC.com, but the new incentive program has inspired me to begin creating one that I thought would be placed at the Waymarking site. To me this decision was premature, it has not even been a month with the new incentives to create these waymarks. Maybe a compromise that new ones could be created at gc.cpm with the condition that when this site has completely changed to a visiting game instead of a Category creation game then they could all be moved here where they belong just like the locationless caches moved here. but state that up front when one is created on GC.com that within a year or two they would ALL move to the proper site. A quote from a prior Thread "Earthcaches, webcams, and virtual caches get more finds than waymarks get visits for several reasons: Not as many people are aware of Waymarking as are aware of geocaching People haven't gotten used to searching for nearby waymarks as part of their activities There is no way yet to download waymark coordinates along with the geocaches in an area A waymark visit is not counted in your geocaching find count Whatever the reason, it doesn't seem to me that the solution is to move these waymarks back to geocaching. If Waymarking is "broken", it seems better to discuss ways to fix Waymarking. How can we get more interest in Waymarking? How can waymark searches be improved? How can waymark searches be tied in with geocache searches? How should Waymarking downloads work? What Waymarking statistics should there be? How should they be integrated with geocaching stats? I would love to complain and whine about the geocaching puritans that won't let me find the virtuals and earthcaches anymore because there is no physical log to sign. But this isn't going to get me anywhere. TPTB have decided that there is now something called Waymarking and it should be the home of all new earthcaches, webcams, and virtuals. However, it seems that TPTB have given us these Waymarking forums as a way to give input on what Waymarking should be. Let's use them for constructive dialog on how to make it work.
  19. It is here chstress53 - Officer 2 [view profile] status: active call number: 3 last login: 9/17/2006 no message See the word status, you can change it too inactive These profiles are in each of the groups you belong too.
  20. What I have found is that all officers voting must know exactly when you are calling the vote, before you actually calll for a vote, for some reason as Jake39 said some officers are not online when you call for a vote. ANd few people are using the active/inactive button. I will never again have a Category that I lead have more than 3 officers before calling for the officer review ( As everyone must vote yea or it automatically fails. ) All of my failed Categories that had over 3 officers failed because getting more than 3 online over 3 days is impractical. I email both officers and until I here back from each personally it does not go to officer vote PERIOD. Then after the three of us vote yea, I as well as other officers promote other members up ( BUT NOT UNTIL AFTER PEER REVIEW) You risk too much for all that work when you have more than 3 officers to do this initial vote. When I had Categories fail the officer review, I called for votes to dismiss anyone who did not respond to my emails, then they were sucessfully demoted. In a nut shell the officer lists went from around 12 officers to 3 officers and without changes they all then passed officer review, and peer review and are now succesful categories with both waymarks and visits. Then all those demoted were brought back to officer status as all votes from now on only need 66% to pass and this seems to work with several officers onboard, some are online others not, and voting usually happens faster this way.
  21. I too was very surprised when I opened my email to the same email that the OP is talking about. I too think that they should stay here at the Waymarking site; but I guess we do not have any power in that respect since the announcement has gone out already, but when I clicked on the link to see the new guidlines the submittal form sent you right back to the Waymarking site. I too agree with The Blue Quasar wholeheartily. I have voted Nay in some Categories as I strongly felt they were Duplicate categories, but now they did not pass the peere review and the Earthcaches that will move negates my votes regarding this, this is just bad format. Here is a copy of that email. Greetings from Geocaching.com and EarthCache.org! As part of Groundspeak’s ongoing commitment to education, we are pleased to announce the return of EarthCaches to the Geocaching.com website. This change will occur over the next few months; EarthCache owners do not need to make any changes for this transition to occur. In related news… New EarthCache Guidelines We have created new guidelines to ensure the successful educational impact of EarthCaching. These changes are essential to EarthCaches returning to Geocaching.com. Please review these guidelines, especially those related to the new logging requirements, and make any changes necessary to ensure that your EarthCache meets our new educational standards.
