  1. There are several steps. 1) Once you have marked caches marked as found in Cachemate you need to Hotsync the PDA with your computer. 2) You then need to import the found cache data into GSAK. To do this you need to convert the Cachemate data into a GPX file. This is done with the cm2gpx.exe whuch is a program included with GSAK. To run this you need to create a batch file that contains a line something like this: This will create a GPX file in the C:\Program Files\GSAK\cm2gpx folder. 3) Then you need to import the resulting GPX file into GSAK. 4) Once the cachemate data has been imported into GSAK you then can add to the UserNotes etc. 5) You can now use a macro to assist in logging your finds on GC.com Here is a macro from the GSAK forum that will this, may need to modify a bit to meet your needs, Cachemate Import Macro
  2. While you can import more cache information into the 60csx you are limited to the amount by the GPS memory and alloted size for information. You will also need a program like GSAK you can export cache data to your GPS. To go totally paperless and have the information your looking for you'll need some sort of PDA and caching software like Cachemate for the PDA. There are other software programs for both your PC and PDA but these are the two I use. Hope that helps answer your question....
  3. A lot of the newer hand held GPSr units are able to store some extra data. The Garmin 60Cx series and the Magellan Explorist 500 are able to store some extra information for each waypoint. There isn't enough available space to store the entire cache description or even a long hint. If you want the entire cache description, hints, past logs you will need to go with a PDA.
  4. I believe that 5 logs is the maximum number of logs included for each cache in the PQ. This is set by Groundspeak and I don't believe there is a way to change it.
  5. This is most likely an issue with your setting in Cachemate. Open cachemate and then check the following; 1) With Cachemate open and looking at the list of caches bring up the Cachemate menu (Tap on the menu Icon near the digitizer, or tap on the Cachemate title in the upper left of the screen). 2) Tap on Options 3) Tap on List Options 4) At the very top of the List Options screen you will see "Extra Info", tap on the Down Arrow and select "Waypoint" 5) Tap on OK You should now have the Waypoint along with the Cache Name
  6. Couple things to check... 1) Do you have only one com port? If so have you tried changing the com port to com1? 2) Do you have any other software running that may have taken control of the serial port, Palm Hotsync, Mapping software etc. 3) Is the GSAK GPS setup set for Magellan?
  7. Sorry for the delay, but I lost my hard drive on my laptop and just got the new one setup. I'll try to get the distance changes finished up shortly.
  8. OK, Here's another version. This version adds the date (Formate YYYYMMDD) to the name of each file, I've also added a user input that allows the user to select if the macro create the databases and imports the caches (Yes or No). I'm still working on adding the other distances per Alan2's request.
  9. ve6dave This macro doesn't have any controller over what fields are displayed in the new databases. You can control that by using the Tools > Options > Display settings. Alan2 I believe that can be done. I've never tried it but it should work. I'll see what I can come up with. The first version of the macro does not create any additional databases, it simply creates the gpx files in the My Documents file. So until I get your other requested mods done you can use that version and not have the extra databases.
  10. Open GSAK Click on Macro Click on Edit/Create Copy the code from the post above Paste it into the GSAK New Macro window Click on File Click on Save As Name the macro what ever you like, just make sure you use the .txt extension Example: CachesGroupedByDistance.txt Close the macro window Create a button on the GSAK tool bar for the macro. See Add Macro Button To GSAK Tool Bar Let me know if you have any questions Del
  11. I have modified the macro to create a seperate database for each distance and import the each set of caches into the appropriate database.
  12. Here is a macro to want you asked for. This macro will create an individual gx file for caches 1) Less than 20 miles, 2) Between 20 and 30 miles, 3) between 30 and 40 miles, 4) between 40 and 50 miles, 5) between 50 and 60 miles, 6) over 60 miles from your selected center point. These files will be placed in your My Documents folder. Copy and paste the macro code below into a blank GSAK Macro, then save it. See this page "Add Macro Button to GSAK" for instructions on adding a macro button to the GSAK toolbar.
  13. To import Cachemate Found files into GSAK you need convert the Cachemate file to a GPX file. There is a small application that is included with all GSAK Installs. This app is found in the GSAK folder (C:\Program Files\GSAK). Below is a simple macro that kicks off a batch file. The batch file runs the Cachemate to gpx converter app. Once the file is converted the macro will import the found cache data. It will insert the Cachemate Found Date into the GSAK Found By Me Date, it will check the GSAK Found flag, and also any Cachemate Notes into the GSAK User Notes field. MACRO This macro requires the batch file to be placed in the cm2gpx folder with in the GSAK root folder. BATCH FILE
  14. Another may around this would be to; 1) Change your pocket query so that only Active cache information is sent in your Pocket Query 2) Change the GSAK Pocket Query import to delete all existing waypoints from your master database before it imports the new PQ. To do this you would check the "Clear Database before loading" NOTE: This will delete ALL the caches in your selected database, so besure you want to do that before you proceed down this path. With this method will get only active caches and the latest information about those caches. If a cache is archived then it will fall off your next PQ. If an archived cache becomes available then it will show up in your next PQ. If you have certain caches you want to keep (i.e. Found Caches, Puzzle Caches that your working etc) you can create a new database in GSAK (Click on Database and then New), and move these type of caches to that database. This also helps to keep your main database uncluttered.
  15. Check out Cachemate. It is a Geocaching program that will run on PPC and Palm PDAs.
  16. Well to start with can you give a little more information. 1) Are you able to run EasyGPS? 2) Are you able to load Geocaching waypoints into EasyGPS? 3) When you try to send Waypoints to the GPSr do you get an error? 4) Is the cable you bought serial or USB? 5) If you cable is serial does your computer have an actual serial port or are you using a USB to Serial converter? 6) Do you have any other applcations running on your computer that communicate with the GPS (Mapping Software, etc)? Do they work? 7) What operating system are you running on your computer? These answers should help narrow down the problem..
  17. If all your running is Garmin nRoute you don't need GPS Gate. GPS Gate allows you to use a single GPS with two application. I'd make sure you have nRoute setup to look for a serial device not a USB device. Your laptop will see the Bluetooth connection as a serial port.
  18. Have never run into this before. Might help to have some more details on the equipment and software your using. Like what type of PDA, what Geocaching Software your running on the PDA, what software if any did you use to filter and create the export file.
  19. Sounds like maybe you downloading the .loc file. The .loc file has very limited information. You'll want to download the .gpx file which has more information. As for Miles vs Kilometers, there is a setting in GSAK to select which to use. Open GSAK click on Tools > Options, and then click on the General TAB. In the upper right of the general screen you'll see the "Distance calculation" box. Change the setting to Miles
  20. I don't believe there is anyway to load hints to a Vista Cx. There are a few GSPr units like the Garmin 60 series, Garmin Street Pilot, and some of the newer Magtellans (I'm sure I missed a few) that you can load hints into. The easiest way to go paperless is to by a used Palm PDA from Ebay. You'll want to look for a Palm PDA that has at least 8 megs of Ram. You find generally find some of the older Palms for $20.00 or so. Once you have a Palm PDA then you can go to Cachemate For Palm web site, download Cachemate (Registration is $8.00). Cachemate is a program written for the Palm that will allow you to import Geocache information and reveiw it in the field. It will give you the Cache Name, Coords, Description, Hint, Past logs, and a screen where you can log your find. There is an Cachemate Export function build into GSAK. Here is a good article on Paperless Caching
  21. I have Delorme Street Atlast Hand Held on my PDA, and have used the Delorme BlueLogger Bluetooth GPSr with it. While both units worked well together, I found out two things very quickly. 1) Unless you have an external power source for the PDA the battery will give you maybe an hours riun time. 2) The PDA screen is way to hard to view while driving. It's OK if you have a co-pilot that can watch the PDA screen and tell you where, and when to turn as well as the street names. I currently use Delorme Street Atlas 2006 on my laptop with a 14" screen and any number of GPSr units. The screen is large enough that I can see it while driving. The Delorme voice driving directions help out a great deal when driving by yourself.
  22. As a non premium you will only be able to download the .loc files. If by saying you mean Garmin's MapSource, yes you can open either a .gpx or .loc file display it on the screen and allow you to transfer the waypoints to your GPSr. As for third party software take a look at: GSAK or EasyGPS Both will open either .gpx or ,loc files and enable you to transfer the waypoints to your GPSr
  23. You need a third party program to convert the data from GC.com to a file that can be imported into Delorme. Some examples: (GSAK) Geocaching Swiss Army Knife. A Geocaching program that allows you to import, filter and export caching data. You can use GSAK to export cache data to your GPS, PDA, Mapping Software. It can also be used to keep track of your cache finds etc. Here is a GSAK macro that will create a clickable line for all Geocache Waypoints that are exported to Delorme (Delorme HTML Export) GPSBabel It's also a good idea to become a Geocaching Premium member if for no other reason than to be able to create and download Pocket Queries with detailed cache information.
  24. If you didn't receive any software you can go to the Palm M500 Support Page and download the Palm Desktop for free. Load that on your PC. This software is needed to HotSync the PDA to your PC. For paperless caching, check of Cachemate. Cachemate is a Geocaching application that runs on your Palm PDA. It cost $8.00 to register, well worth it... Also check out GSAK. GSAK is a Geocaching application / database that runs on your PC. It is a very powerful tool for filtering, exporting cache information to your Palm and GPS. GSAK cost $20.00 to register, also well worth it. And lastly, if your not already a Geocaching.com premium member, consider becoming one. It cost $30.00 a year, but it gives you the ability to create Pocket Queries which contain detailed cache information. Enjoy!
