  1. Thanks. Very handy. Keep an eye out for Maccavity the Mystery cat coming next week, presuming my friends can remember how to use the GPS Cheers Discombob
  2. Hi I have a TB that needs to get to NZ, and I have a friend who is going to Australia, so I am going to lend him my GPS to try drop the TB off. He will be staying on Rot Nest Island in Perth his whole stay. Are there any caches on the island he could drop the TB in? Thanks Discombob (from South Africa)
  3. I live in Cape Town, and think that is a great idea. However, I can't really picture any feasible places to put a cache in or near CT airport. Things are pretty sparse out there, as well as fairly busy. I would also be worried because if one sets up a cache specifically as a TB hotel in a place which could be found easily, this could be deliberately placing some TBs in danger of being terminated, which would give me a great guilty complex if I was the one that placed the cache. I will have a look around when next I am at the airport though, or maybe some sneakier cachers than me would be able to place a safe TB hotel.
  4. Oh you lucky fiend - 10 bugs in 2 months! In South Africa, Tbs are harder to come by. I've only got 5 in 7 months Anyway, I read about a Travel bug swapping event cache in UK, where people came specifically to swap bugs, so I don't know if yours was like that. Naturally, you would only be allowed to log the travel bugs that you swap with one of the other caches at the event, so if you didn't swap any, no logs for you I fear
  5. Hi Hedberg Sounds Great. I would love to have a travel bug race in our country. A cache which i recommend is Sentinel View. It is big and has lots of room, and would be fitting, as this is the first cache set up in SA. Its in a great location, and in good condition despite being the first cache around. I do not recommend tygerberg cache, as the most recent posting shows that it has been plundered by the staff in the area, and though the replaced the cache, they know it is there, so the bugs could be in danger. I would be keen to set up a cache specifically as a final destination for your race, so I could make sure it is big enough. Perhaps somewhere on Table mountain. Let me know if that interests you, and we could discuss any ideas for that. Cheers Discombob
  6. Hi KNK There are a number of caches where you can drop your Travel bug in the city area. Some I recommend are: Lions Head: About 1.5 hour walk up lions head, right in city centre, Excellent views. Zulu 7 : Not as strenous as mentioned in cache description. Can be done in 30 minutes total, and close to famous Kirstenbosch gardens. Constantia Forest: If you are renting a car, this is close to city centre, and a 5 minute walk from car. Sandy Bay – Cape Town: This is close to famous nude beach (now frequented mainly by naked guys :-(, but quick easy walk, with a great coastal drive thrown in. Sentinel View: One of my favourite Caches, and the first ever in SA. Magnificent views. Slightly longer drive from city centre (45 min) and reasonably tiring walk (about 1.5 hours. Jonkershoek: I haven't done this one, but i beleive it is a nice easy cache, in the Stellenbosch winelands area. If you drop the TB here, I will be sure to rush to get it. I do love to find them, and we need more of them around here. Cheers - Enjoy your visit and happy caching! Discombob
  7. Thanks dudes/ettes I liked the idea of joining the bugs. However, the owner mailed me and he is apparently coming down to Cape Town this week, so I will probably meet up with him. It seems madame fifi is to go back to USA, and Monsieur pierre is to stay here, perhaps to meet up later somewhere else. Cheers Russell
  8. Hi. I'm new to this game, and in my first weekend I have reunited 2 lost lover bugs after 2 years. (pierre and fifi la pez). they now need to make it to USA (I'm in South Africa) My dilemma is that I have a friend going to USA in 6 weeks, but she is not a geocacher, and is 6 weeks too long to keep them. I am going to transkei in a couple of weeks, so should I drop them off there instead? and if so, must I drop them in a cache together so they can stay together for a while, or is it more exciting to split them up again for a reunion later on? What is everone's verdict on the etiquette here? Thanks Discombob
