  1. When it is cold or when I have the stepson with me I drive an '01 Chevy Silverado. Otherwise it is my '84 Goldwing.
  2. The very first cache I looked for I couldn't find. I made a second trip and again couldn't find it. Turns out it had gotten muggled and was archived just a few days ago. Stuff happens.
  3. My first one was called The Splashing Cache and was placed on 5-10-08. I am a newbie to the game but thought I did pretty good for my first placement. The ammo box was well stocked with goodies and in a nice natural setting. Only 7 people have found it but the comments have been positive. I have since learned that in this area, it's all about location, location, location. I threw together a quick cache that I put at my place of employment. I did not expect that it would see much traffic but I was sure wrong about that. It is just a very simple cache (almost a park and grab). I placed Have Any Shopping Cache? back on 6-2-08 and it has been quite popular. I never imagined it would get as many hits as it has. I placed Stepping Stone Falls on 6-27-08 and it is probably the best one I have placed. It is in a real nice park and is a 3 part multi. It also has a very well stocked final but so far has gotten very little attention from the locals. I guess most folks in this area prefer the quick park and grab type stuff. Ah well, live and learn.
  4. My other big hobby is shooting. Ammunition prices have gone through the roof over the last 18 to 24 months so what little I spend on geocaching is not painfull. I also ride a motorcycle when it is warm enough to do so. The extra gas milage helps. I might have to cut back on my caching a little bit once cold weather arrives.
  5. I have been known to my friends as Lumpy for a whole heap of years. I tried using Lumpy while registering on a web site once but it was already taken. It suggested Lumpy223 as an alternative. I am a plinker at heart who loves to go shooting and .223 is one of my favorite calibers so Lumpy223 was a perfect fit. I use it on all message boards that I sign up on now.
  6. You are doing ok with 14 finds. I placed a nice cache (GC1C46Q) in some nice park property that is largely being ignored. There is some mud at the trailhead and I think that it is causing most seekers to ignore it. That is unfortunate because the mud is fairly easy to get by and the rest of the hike is easy. Oh well, I am going to be releasing another one in the near future that I hope will be a bit more popular. It will be a multi based in a nice park. I plan on a nicely stocked ammo box for the final. I have plans for another that I hope to put out in the near future that will not get many hits at all as it will require a boat to get to. However, I anticipate that those who find it will like it. Heck, I enjoy placing the caches as much as looking for them. I have to double check the co-ordinates on one of mine tomorrow as a log entry indicates the co-ordinates may be 50 feet off. Have fun.
  7. I submitted a new one for review first thing this morning. I checked at around 1:00 PM and it had not been published yet. I picked the step son (Buggybubba) up at 3:00 and checked again at 3:30 and saw that it had been published. Buggybubba immediately decided he wanted to go find what I had hid. With no help from me (other than driving him to the area) he was able to track it down and find it for his first FTF at 4:35 PM. Someone else found it just a short time later.
  8. Nearest unfound is 2.4 miles away. The owner says it appears to have come up missing and hasn't replaced it yet. Nearest found is 2.5 miles away.
  9. I understand that caches must be placed a certain distance away from other caches (.10 of a mile I believe). My question is this, if I were to place a multi stage cache, would each stage have to conform to the distance requirement? The reason I ask is because I went out yesterday and found a great place for a multi but I doubt the stages would be 500 feet apart. Thanks.
  10. Well I went back and actually found the cache. The original co-ordinates put ground zero right at a headstone. I went back and read through some of the logs and found that the co-ordinates are off by about 90 some feet. Once I had the right co-ordinates, I made the find away from the headstones and markers. Now I just have to go back one last time because there wasn't a pencil in the container and I didn't have a pen with me (major sin while caching).
  11. Thanks for the thoughts here folks. As I said, I haven't completely ruled out these kinds of caches yet but I felt kinda weird doing my first one. I felt like the 800 pound gorilla in the room and was just waiting for one of the staff to come up and ask me what I was doing. For what it's worth, my GPS was showing a headstone as ground zero. The hiding spots here were very few with the next logical location several yards away. I appreciate all the input.
  12. Im a newbie who just today broke 10 finds. One of the ones I looked for today was in a cemetary. I didn't find it but I have to admit that I felt very uneasy while looking. I just felt like I was being disrespectful by playing a game in a place like that. I probably wont go back to that one but I wont rule out all cemetary hunts just yet. Anybody else think maybe these places should be sacred, or is it just me?
  13. Hi folks, new member here. I am just getting started with Geocaching and am already enjoying it. Sometimes I take my stepson (Buggybubba) with me and sometimes it is just Boo (the dog in my avatar). Been having lots of fun and have already submitted my first cache. Just waiting for the review. Well, thats my story................
