  1. Congratulations bearly_sane And thank you again WSR for holding these fun cointests to help get us through the Summer. I haven't been visiting the boards as often as I would like in recent weeks, but when I do, I always make an effort to look up this thread to see what the latest photo looks like and how we're doing with entries. These are a lot of fun (even if they are frustrating at times ) to figure out. Keep up the great work
  2. helped make one just like that. heated the spring until it was weak then welded it open just incase. it was well received but is archived because of constant problems with weed trimmers(long story). Hey mailman72432: I love this cache "container" for a couple of reasons. First off is just the intimidation factor - top shelf thinking. Secondly, when I was much younger, I used to trap fur and seeing this cache brought back many wonderful memories of a much simpler time (my god, it sounds like I'm talking about the 1800's). In my case, it was more like the early 1980's. I don't know if I have any kicking around in a dark corner of my garage, but if you don't mind, I'd like to steal this idea and set one up. I'm looking at the photos and seeing a lot of dry ground, but no long grass/weeds. My first thought was why didn't you just move it. Seems a shame to let this one goto waste.
  3. I remember when you first introduced this cache container and thought it was a "gr8" idea. Thank you for coming back and posting the pics - I think it's devious but awesome and am sure it will be well-received. I do think you should have left the hooks in tact though to help make it look a little more realistic. I mean, now it just screams cache a mile away. Just kidding. Good luck with it.
  4. Hey Cherokee Bill: Let me be the first to congratulate you on your finds. I got into the sport through geocoin collecting, but have have had a GPS for a few years now and it was inevitable that I "dove into the pool". I really started looking for hides in early July of this year and just found my 100th cache a couple of weeks ago. It has become an addiction that enhanced my life in many ways. Just today, I found my 131st cache, but needed the help of some women from a knitting forum to help solve a puzzle cache. For a few days, these five women and I have been working together on this cache, even though we've never met before and collaborated on finding an answer. I videotaped my finding of the cache and sent them a link, so they could see the fruits of their labor. They were all exited to go "virtual caching" and I'm hoping the experience turned them on to it. I think/hope you'll find in your caching career that you'll have similar experiences. Meeting fellow cachers, or like in my case total (but kind) strangers is an awesome thing and you're right on the begginning of it all. Watch out for those evil micros for a while - don't get too frustrated by the ones you can't find. They'll drive you to drink.
  5. Hey Scubasonic: LadyBee4T has pointed you in the right direction to get started. I would like to add that many of these vendors have "newsletter" subscriptions (free to sign up) that will tell you of future releases in advance. They also advertise here on this forum when something new is coming down the pike.
  6. Those are great suggestions Tsun and Gatoulis.
  7. Congratulations GBOTS on receiving your Wishing Coin
  8. Hey GlennK721: Congratulations on receiving your Wishing Coin. I think you're top notch for trying to lift a little of the "rain" from LadyBee4tea. Looks like it came as a little good karma for you.
  9. Hey Lorca.nl: I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have been out geocaching every day for several weeks and have not been keeping up with the forum very much. You are in my prayers today. I am glad you received this wonderful coin on that special day. As sad as it is to lose someone, please know that many people here think you are very special and our thoughts are with you. Michael
  10. I don't think you're really modifying the coin as much as you think. I'd say it's fine. Go for it.
  11. They are for sale, and at a great price, too! They aren't trackable, though, so she can't list the website for them... but if you look REAL hard , you can find a link to the website where they are sold posted somewhere close to here Naomi Thanks Naomi for pointing me in the right direction, but I was a little too late. I think we need a remint of the pins. And yest, they would make great FTF prizes. Woops! just saw that there might be some more on their in a subsequent post. Sorry for jumping the gun. I think these are great, pins. Can't wait for August.
  12. Tsun: I think you should offer the pins for sale. I know you asked earlier in this thread, but now that I've seen them, they are too cute not to make them available.
  13. New Hampshire got theirs yesterday (sorry coreynjoey) all the way across the country. Boy, for turtles, these guys move fast.
  14. Do we have an update on how these beauties are doing?
  15. Payment sent. I'll keep a lookout in New Hampshire for the little flappers.
  16. I took a day off from work Tuesday to run a few errands and to hit a few caches. At one point, I ended up at the house and was on my way back out when I checked the mail box and, , , , you guessed it, a package from "The Wishing Coin". Thank you so much, whoever you are. This is one of the most beautiful coins I have ever seen. It is one of those that photographs just don't catch right. The colors are stunning and I just love the theme and overall design in general. I have a small collection of my personal favorite coins that I can almost count with just one hand and this one will have a permanent place in my favorites.
  17. Interesting thread. I think the artist/minter should benefit from the higher prices their LEs would bring. The fact is that on Ebay, something that is presented as "LE", "XLE" or somehow denotes that a coin is in some way rare, will command higher prices from the market. I do much more buying than selling, but I have no problem paying an artist more for their limited editions, just as I have no problem paying an Ebay seller more for theirs and would hope that if and when I offer an LE for sale that I would receive more for it myself. As has been said here previously, there is also an issue with having to buy a set in order to get a specific metal coice, and I do have a problem with that. I generally don't mind buying a set per se, especially if I can get a little better price for buying the set as opposed to buying the individual pieces, but if I wanted to buy additional LEs of that coin, I don't want to have to buy an additional whole set for one or two LEs. Finally, there is the issue with limiting LE sales to one or two per person in order to allow more people access to the LE offering. I have to say that I grumble when I see that I'm being limited in my purchases, but to be honest, I like that more people get a shot at buying an LE and not having one person or a few people corner the market on that particular coin. I think what it really is, is that I don't want to be limited myself, but want everyone else to be Tsun, I think you do a fantastic job at what you do, and my impression of many of the artists I have had the pleasure of buying from here is that the word greed does not exist in your vocabulary. You make offerings that better the world in a small way and charge (IMO) very little for your work and contributions. As a consumer, I should be the last one saying such a thing, but I believe this to be true. I think a lot of people who don't know where to buy directly from coiners buy from Ebay and so I use Ebay prices as a standard of sorts. I know when I started my collection earlier this year, that all my coins were Ebay-ers and I probably paid 4-5 times initial offering price for my first 75 coins. When I found out what the initial offering prices were on many of these purchases, it made me sick. My opinion is that the artists should charge more for LEs but put limitation of sales in some way to allow more people to have a chance to own these little masterpieces of metal and enamel.
  18. I haven't counted, but it's probably about 150. Someone started a thread a couple of months back asking how much your collection weighs. A lot of funny (and really surprising) responses, but I realized that at one point, people probably start thinking of their collections buy the pound rather than by the piece. I'm still at the "piece" scale and not the "pound" scale - FOR NOW.
  19. Email sent. I've never heard of the place where Mr. Cool is before today, but it is really wild! I wish I lived closer, I'd love to go. Thanks WSR for introducing me to it, even if only through the net.
  20. Congratulations Tschakko, well-done. I sent in three answers (maybe even 4, not sure anymore) and didn't even come close. My first guess was embarrassingly wrong, the next ones were pretty good guesses, but still waaaaaaaay off. But now that I'm seeing the coin pictured, I should have found it The next cointest looks pretty cool too, let's see what we come up with on this. LOL Thanks again WSR. these area a blast to get us through the summer.
  21. Just trying to bump the pictures up for convenience.
  22. I believe I just lost my first two coins out of about eight I've released in the past few weeks - right out of their first cache. It feels a little like getting the wind knocked out of you. I've thought about setting up a camera and re-seeding the two caches in hopes of seeing who comes by. I won't allow coin thieves to bully me into stopping, even though it's not like I can afford to just keep throwing money out at them either. I haven't bought any of the Groundspeak TBs yet, but maybe that's the way to go. They're economical and you can attach a hitchhiker that speaks of your personality. Because they are so generic, they are less likely to get ripped off. I'm hoping my coins (which were drilled and prominently tagged) will turn up one day. It's probably kids who think the coins are cool right now and don't know how to get their own or don't want to buy their own. If they do the right thing and drop them off in a cache some time in the future instead of throwing them out, the can continue their journey. Like yourself, I love the artistic value of geocoins and prefer to release coins because it's a way for me to share them with the world, but also like yourself, I hate to think that they're sitting in some punk's dresser drawer somewhere.
