  1. Perhaps the Alaskans should start doing like the folks in Hawaii. Stop volunteering to maintain vacation caches. They're against the rules unless you have a maintenance plan in place. Start putting NA logs on them and let the reviewers take appropriate action. My Alaska cache has been in place since 2004. I live in California. In those 7 years, it has disappeared about 6 times. I have a maintenance plan in place and while the 2 week goal is sometimes hard to meet, the cache is maintained on a regular basis and has over 1000 finds. I take pride in this cache and don't want it to get a reputation of a poor "vacation cache". And ironically, like Palmetto commented, my local cache hides are actually maintained worse then my Alaska cache. Exception to the rule? YMMV...
  2. If you are good with HTML, you could make your own sudoku grid with HTML code. However I'm assuming that isn't the case.
  3. Contact FishPOET- http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=7e691fe0-8bb3-4fa3-8efb-0a98362fd88b http://www.facebook.com/pages/Action-Trophy/52381979886 He has made various nametags like the ones the Ventura Kids are wearing. Can be basic engraved Lamacoid pins, laser engraved anodized metal pin, etc.
  4. You might also want to delete your (obviously) wrong log on the Fountain cache in the UK.
  5. If you know the city where it was located, then you can search other local geocacher's found list to find the cache. That is what I just did and I think I found the cache you are looking for: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=gc1p1wb
  6. Yeah, the Poodle Brush was bad after the Butler fire up near Big Bear. Now it has come out in force in the Station fire burn area. Thanks for spreading the word.
  7. I still get full page logs on my remote caches. Urban caches only get 1 line per finder.
  8. I sent a message to CKayaks to see if they can help.
  9. Ocotillo Wells was already mentioned, but there are also lots of caches up in the Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead areas. Not all "require" 4WD to get to, but I'd say around 50% need it. Some also require more then stock 4WD.
  10. I placed a whole series of caches along the shores of Pyramid Lake which is just north of Los Angeles. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=503b92f0-353c-4b4e-ac6c-1fdc7e510aa8
  11. I'm not Orange County based, but I am So-Cal. There are lots of active people down in the OC, so the recommendation of meeting at an event is a good one. Doesn't JJGG0101 have something coming up this weekend? Check the event calendar.
  12. But it does seem like your "Double Forum Posting" ability is working.
  13. That warrants a face? Yes it does.
  14. I got one of the NM logs by the Geocacher that Don_J mentioned. This is not the first time said cacher has done this and I also agree it is abuse of the NM feature. A simple note on the cache page is all that is required. I fixed the TB issue with my cache, but now in addition I had to log an owner maintenance to remove the red cross attribute.
  15. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think you did the right thing and tried to be helpful.
  16. Geocaching is no longer about the find, its about the numbers.
  17. See this post for other nearby power trails- http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=269623&view=findpost&p=4636257
  18. Route 66 series (800 caches) - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=gc2j17a Yer-MO series (60+ caches) - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC2KW0A Both of the above are basically all 2WD. The following is recommended 4WD- Sneaker Series (36 caches) - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC28AVR Groundspeak Series (40 caches) - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC23PB6 There are plenty more in the area if you have 4WD.
  19. Here are a few more I designed- http://www.showstop.org/geocaching/altoids-rules-card.doc http://www.showstop.org/geocaching/ammo-box-rules.doc
  20. I don't think that placing was a bad idea, more that some thought to do 1000+ caches in one day. The caches didn't seem to be the problem but the behavior of those cachers. Thank's to them. Which goes right back to my comment about the power trail being placed along a highway with cars zooming by at 70+ MPH. Trails like this need to be placed on off-highway areas or lesser traveled rural roads. Lower speeds and light traffic are key to safety with a slow moving cache machine constantly entering and exiting the roadway.
  21. Sounds like placing all those caches along a highway wasn't such a wise idea.
  22. Basically from about May to September temps during the day average 100+ F.
  23. That could be a long list. Working in the TV industry myself, I know of lots and lots of locations that have been made famous in certain movies. For example, the houses featured in 'Back to the Future' are all located around Pasadena and the town square still exists on the Universal Studios backlot. I imagine you are looking more for iconic locations rather than some of the more obscure like the movie theater location featured in the finale scene to the movie 'Bachelor Party'? Problem is not every cache has the location as part of the cache title, so that makes searching for locations a bit tougher. This is a good one to add to the list: LarsThorwald's Psycho! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=85bfe0fe-2eea-4bba-a83c-6bea6af1afa8
  24. National Parks are for all to visit, but they restrict Geocaching on their lands in much the same fashion. Land managers are allowed to restrict certain activities they believe are detrimental to the features of the land. The short answer to your question is that caches were placed on the ABDSP land without permission near sensitive areas. The land managers felt the best course of action was to completely outlaw physical geocaches in the park. The long answer to your question is found in the first post of this thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=180512
