  1. Sounds illegal. Of course it is illegal but it is free and it works and it is better than original and it saves environment since there is no CD/DVD or plastic cases to deal with. When software companies start making decent programs and sell them at reasonable prices then EVERYBODY will pay for it. What kind piece of crap is Windows XP when Microsoft has updates every few days? What kind of units are GPSrs when manufacturers have firmware updates every few weeks? What kind of sleazy tactic Garmin has when they sell you a map you can install on only ONE GPSr??? How about TV manufacturers start making TVs where only ONE person can watch at the time? What if your GPSr gets stolen or just dies since it is made in China and it cost $5 for Garmin to make it? Why Windows XP does not cost $20 instead of $150? Everybody will buy it and there will be no pirates or torrents or whatever. Until then, keygen works great, generates keys for ALL possible Garmin maps and if you refuse do use it due to moral issues or if you are brainwashed American, at least you can install your expensive maps on all your GPSrs.
  2. That sounds great So i am sure, Garmin will solve the problem. It is important that different people report that problem - so Garmin knows that not only some of us need a correct odometer t low speed. Thanks to all who are reporting this bug to garmin. Dezember 2007 What about the solution of the odometer bug? I am amazed how people like to sweat the small stuff. I am just wandering how the HELL you did hiking before GPS? Did you trail measuring tape after you? Did you steal ball of yarn from your grandma and then measure how much you ‘walked in the woods’. What is the dadgum problem? Why is so important to know that you walked 431 meters or 434 meters? Do you measure every gram of food you eat? Do you breathe in the bag and measure how much air you spend a day. Get some psychiatrist help and leave us alone.
  3. Sure thing. I reported a while ago this NT map ‘feature’. Occurs on eTrex HCx units. I kind of tend to think that NT maps are just regular NON-NT maps but compressed (similar to ZIP, RAR, etc. exe files). So when unit tries to access maps it has to uncompress it on the fly. The more powerful CPU GPSr has the less lag you will experience. eTrex being the smallest probably has the slowest CPU. Haven’t heard anything from 60xxx owners.
  4. I would suggest Legend HCx or Vista HCx (compass, barometric altimeter). Both are color units and trust me, I was there, a touch of color is big difference comparing to B&W. Beside being great GPSrs they provide mapping ability which is very handy. Even if you spend all the time in the woods eventually you will go on the road and you will appreciate autorouting and other mapping features. Yes, it is more money but cut smoking, booze and women and voila – here are the moneys!
  5. This is totally Not True! A female can drive you home too!!! Completely agree. It is way MORE interesting to do geocaching female TOPO areas than buddies’. Thank you very much. Why do you people sweat the small stuff all the time??? Will Garmin come to your house and take your gps and put you in jail because you are running 2 or 3 copies of TOPO or whatever at the same time? No! So load it up and forget about those licence agreements. The very first point of licence agreement should be: We, manufacturer (put ANY name you want) created excellent, bug free product. We will provide you with occasional software updates to Enhance your purchase but that will be very rarely since we spend a lot of time designing and testing it. So does it say like that? No???? Then I have no much respect for them and all software should be free as it is.
  6. Legend, Vista, 60, etc. are NOT primarily made for car use. It is a great feature but their primarily use if for OUTDOOR use where there are NO roads. Now, since they provide support for all kind of maps and include autorouting as a bonus, heck, why not have some street maps loaded. Not to mention TOPO! You have few options: - buy a map - buy a card with map (bad idea) - buy a stockings, put on your head, run into store, yell ‘this is a robbery’, grab map(s) you desire, run out. Pray security is not faster than you. - Download map from the Internet. Find keygen. Unlock. How? Sorry, cannot help. - Find old, obsolete, basically useless street maps which did not need unlock code. There is no free lunch. Everything has a price you have to pay. Either it is a $$$ or your time invested in finding free solution.
  7. Do not even compare Legend with Legend H. It is like comparing Yugo to Honda Accord. I had Legend long time ago; replaced with Legend C, then with Legend H. Nothing was ever wrong with previous units. - Color screen. Just a touch of color is Huge difference comparing to B&W. 256 different colors is enough for that small guy. Do not droll for 24bit graphics. On that small screen you do not need it. - Memory: from 8Mb to 24Mb to unlimited?. Limited by micro SD capacity only, actually. Right now I have 2Gb and it is plenty for me. You can put all the maps you need. Not Want; need. If you live in NA it will take all City Nav 2008 NA. If you want to have topo and City Nav then you have to juggle a little bit since topo USA is space hog. If you travel frequently between NA and Europe, invest in 2 micro SD or just go for 4Gb. - GPS Receiver is WAY more sensitive than Legend C or Legend. - Battery life of >20 hours (no light, though). Nobody can match that. As for Vista ‘features’ – compass and barometric altitude, well, real hiker never goes hiking without REAL magnetic compass. Forget about these electronic compasses. Real PITA. No electrons no compass. Battery dead - you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. Good night and Good luck. Barometric altitude? Hmm. What happens when atmospheric pressure start playing games? Recalibrate again?!?! Duh. I would buy Legend H over and over again. As not being early adopter (pay ME if you want me to test your new toys Garmin) I do not even think about Colorado. That is for hot blooded, ‘I have to have it’, ‘my willy is small so let me have NEW BIG GPS’ folks. Let them PAY to be guinea pigs for Garmin, Garmin will correct errors and then, only then I will take a look at it. Just a look.
  8. Just wandering… what is the point of having more than one GPSr? I could understand two: one for outdoor one for car but not 8 or 10 SIMILAR units????? Are you opening a museum? Or you just have money to burn. You better spend money on food. Your arms are kind of thin and weak…?
  9. Legend HCx is actually CAD 214.95, Vista $278.95 at another Alberta store. GPSCentral will match those prices. Talk to George Valentine form GPS Central. Do NOT forget that buying from Alberta you will pay only one tax, plus S&H. Calculate before you buy. RadioWorld has no return policy only exchange if gps is broken. Unfortunately I have no good experience with RW since there work some old farts who think they have the best prices, the best service, the best knowledge, etc. in the world. But it is good store to play with gps before you buy from somebody else. LegendHCx is the best buy at least for me. Vista? Do you really need electronic compass or barometric altimeter? For all these years since first eTrex Legend (black & white) I never ever had a need for those. Metro guide Canada v4.0 is absolutely obsolete map plus with so many errors. Buy City Navigator North America 2008 NT or non-NT. Topo Canada is old too, but I do not remember that something has been changed since that release (no earthquakes, A-bomb explosions, aliens, etc.). If you want to see ‘map at work’ before you buy it, let me know area you are interested in and I will send you screen print from any map you want. It could be topo, metroguide and city nav. Provide e-mail. Once you buy map there is absolutely no returns no matter where you buy from so think twice before you flash your credit card.
  10. 1) Provide area you are most interested with and I will send you screen print of map you are interested in. 2) I believe most maps you can buy as upgrade or as ‘full’ version. The best is to talk to Garmin or visit specialized gps store. 3) I do not buy stuff on e-bay since you could be scammed; you might receive ‘shrink wrapped’ software and find that it was already registered or used to get second unlock code (to load to gps). Light blue is the latest software. Again, talk to Garmin. 4) Same as #1. Provide an e-mail and I will send you screen print of area of interest.
  11. 1. City Nav v8 is the old map. City Nav 2008 is the latest map. 2. NT version has a lag on eTrex. NT is compatible with H units, takes less space than Non-NT. 3. I personally use City Nav 2008 Non-NT since there is no lag. Lag manifests when you move cursor pointing to a street or POI; it takes 3-5 seconds for eTrex to show you street number or POI/waypoint name. You will see hourglass (like Windows’) on your screen. Non-NT maps show you street numbers or POI/Waypoint names instantly. Non-NT map takes more space. 4. Complete North America 2008 NT takes 998.5Mb on your GPSr; Non-NT takes 1,726.2Mb.
  12. Why? Are you asking why regular alkaline AA, AAA, etc. are pushed into our heads all the time instead of rechargeable? What? Were you born yesterday? Didn’t you know that behind all stupid products is BIG BUSINESS? Big money! It is in nobody’s interest to stop making alkaline batteries. You want all those factories to be closed, employees laid off, burden stupid American government with unemployed insurance claims and start revolution? BTW, I haven’t use non-rechargeable batteries in last 30 years so that stupid pink bunny did not get a cent from me.
  13. Do not know about ‘recent finds’ lag since mine pops up instantaneously but I can confirm that there is a lag when NT maps (NA 2008 or Europe 2008) are loaded into Legend H. While moving cursor on a map and pointing at the street or waypoint or whatever it takes 3-5 seconds to display street number/name, waypoint name, etc. This is not happening with NON-NT NA maps. Cannot confirm for Europe 2008 NON-NT since it is not available yet. I do not find it as a big deal since if I need speed I would load non-NT and if I need space then NT will go in.
  14. I used to have the same problem with my Legend H and I solved it. Issue was when I have moved cursor on a map, miniature hourglass would appear and stay there 2-5 sec. I switched to City Navigator NA 2008 NON NT. They are basically the same maps with different compression. Response of my gps is now as it should be. I have wild idea that since NT maps are compressed differently, gps has to uncompress it all the time and eTrex most likely has the slowest CPU, but again it will be kind of dumb? Of course, if you hear from Garmin about ‘real’ solution, please post it here. I will try City Nav Europe 2008 NT tomorrow so I will let you know is that is NT problem or just NA NT.
